I have to increase my calcium intake but I'm kinda fussy and don't really like milk or plain yogurt.
I'd love to have ideas on what to put in plain yogurt? Apart from sugar or cocoa or something like that of course cos I'm looking for healthier ingredients!
Thanks!

I use natural yogurt and in the morning when I'm making my lunch put in some fruit (blackberries, strawberries and raspberries particularly) and by the time its lunch time The fruit has flavoured the yoghurt0

I slice ripe strawberries and freeze them in 1 cup gladwares. When you take them out to thaw, they make extra juice, more so than when you cut them up and don't freeze them. I put them in plain greek yogurt because the flavored ones have way too much sugar and I don't do artificial sweeteners...0

I slice up some bananas and mix them in with some chia seeds. If you like oatmeal you should try doing overnight oatmeal. I take a serving of dry oats (not cooked) and mix together with a serving of yogurt. Put it in the refrigerator overnight and then in the morning add whatever fruit you like. The oatmeal soaks up the yogurt so its nice and soft!0

I put frozen berries in when I pack it for my lunch in the morning, by lunch time, they are thawed and the flavor is good.0

I thaw out some frozen unsweetened cherries and add them to my plain greek yogurt and put about a tablespoon of Hershey's sugar free chocolate syrup on top. It is heavenly!0

Thanks everyone for the tips! I guess yogurt + berries is a winning combo then! Can't wait to try it!
I've never tried oatmeal (I don't think people eat it a lot where I live, had never heard of it before) but if I can find some I'll try it too! And hopefully I'll get some calcium in!0 -
I really like to put granola in my yogurt...be careful of the kinds you buy as they tend to be high in sugar or carbs, but it is also very easy to make at home!!!0

I use it as a dip and usually put mint sauce and chilli powder in it.
If you don't like it too hot then paprika works well.

Strawberries & Graham cracker! YUMMY0

Scoop of protein powder with my greek yogurt for a pumped up protein snack!0

I like to put vanilla protein powder and a few chopped walnuts in mine. Like others have said, fruit is great too!0

Fresh fruit and honey!
Or muesli/fruit & fibre type cereal0 -
A little bit of stevia, ground ginger and cinnamon. Fantastic and adds zero calories to the yogurt.0

^^ THIS........and imitation vanilla.
BTW, I discovered that Dannon Oikos Plain Greek Yogurt has 10 calories MORE than Great Value Plain
same am't fat - ZERO-
BUT 1/2 the am't of sodium
1/2 the carbs & sugar
and DOUBLE the am't of protein, so I switched.
Obviously costs more, but it was worth it to me.
It fills me up, whereas the GV never did0 -
- Peanut butter and honey (sweet & salty)
- Cocoa powder and some sweetener (chocolaty)
- any kind of fruit (berries, bananas, peaches etc.)
- Granola (just watch out for fat and sugar)
- Nuts (portion control!)
- add frozen berries and puree to make ice cream *yummy*
- add yogurt to protein shakes
I ♥ yogurt0 -
I'll mix Nature's Path cereals into my yogurt, fruits, almonds, or cocoa powder.0

I'm kinda weird...I mix a packet of hot cocoa in yogurt, nuke it for about a minute and half, and pour it over weetabix or shredded wheat.0

I mix a half a scoop of protein powder in my plain greek yogurt.....then I add either blackberries or frozen blueberries. Sometimes I sprinkle granola on top or mix plain uncooked oatmeal in it with a little water and let it sit overnight to make refrigerator oatmeal.....Love plain greek yogurt!0

I do one tablespoon of honey, fresh or frozen no sugar added berries, and a small handful ( 1/4 to 1/2 cup of low fat granola cereal--have to watch out with the one!)
Check out this homemade muesli recipe on Candice Kumai's website -Stiletto Chef..I bet that would be AWESOME with plain yogurt and a drizzle of honey : )

A little bit of all natural fruit spread and a tablespoon or so of raw nuts, usually walnuts or pecans.0

Fresh fruit and honey!
Or muesli/fruit & fibre type cereal
I also add fresh fruits like strawberries, blueberries, bananas and I even tried putting in pureed pumpkin or mandarin oranges along with honey or agave. Delicious!0 -
Bump for later! Totally trying the refrigerator oatmeal!0

1/3c raw oatmeal, 4 chopped almonds, some chopped fruit (whatever on hand or in season), unsweetened coconut, and splash of almond milk if too thick. This is my go-to breakfast and keeps me going all morning long.0

If you want it sweet (for breakfast):
- Jam (no-sugar-added is better than sugar-free is better than regular)
- Fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, peaches, bananas, cherries w/ stones removed, whatever you like)
- Dried fruit (mostly raisins, but stuff like dried apricots or craisins could be good too)
- Honey
- A tiny bit of vanilla or almond extract
- Granola (replace milk with greek yogurt and get more protein at breakfast )
- Pancakes! Mix some into your pancake batter. We've done it with flavored Chobani Greek yogurts, but plain yogurt might give pancakes an interesting sort of tang.
If you want it savory (for lunch or snack):
- Sliced cucumbers and about a teaspoon of dill (fresh or dried is your call, dried herbs have a sharper, more intense flavor)
- 1 pkt Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning in 2 cups of fat-free Greek yogurt gives you a delicious low-fat, high-protein ranch dressing substitute. Dip veggies in it, use it on your salads, put it in guacamole (seriously), anything you'd normally do with Ranch if you use it.
You can also sub in plain yogurt in a lot of recipes that call for cream/sour cream/milk/etc, like in smoothies, cream-based dips and sauces, some cakes and quickbreads (I'd check first, Google around some), etc.0 -
normally Stevia, true lemon, and often some kind of fruit (on plain greek yogurt.) But lately I've been sprinkling SF lemon jello pudding mix on it (maybe 1/6 of a 4 serving package?) and mixing it in, then adding frozen blueberries. Ends up really thick like lemon cheesecake.
Tried a chocolate SF pudding, but it wasn't nearly as good. Lemon with blueberries really hits the spot.0 -
i loveeee putting cinnamon in my yogurt its sooo good!!0

Thanks for all the great ideas! They sound really good!!
Didn't think I could actually use yogurt as a dip or seasoning but I really like the idea, with cucumber and dried herbs or with spice! Yummy!0
