Candida outbreak...finding out you have one!

So for the last 5 years I've been convinced I have a gluten intolerance and have been struggling to manage that, make myself feel better, and loose weight. Finally my naturopath talked me into taking an offical food allergy blood test and I have to say, the results blew me away! :noway: :noway:

Turns out I'm only officially allergic to whey, bakers yeast, egg whites, and pecans, not gluten at all! :drinker: Good news. But the bad news was that Candida has taken over my intestines and blood stream. Le sigh! So doc and I did a tone of research and determined in order to kill off the abnormal candida in my system, I have to starve it for minimum of 3 months. The buggar feeds of sugar, so for the next three months, I have to completely eliminate everything that converts into a sugar in my body, or promotes the bacteria to grow more.

This mean no:
sugar or anything with a "...cose" in the ingretient list, including sauces, dressings, jucies, etc.
alcohol :brokenheart: :brokenheart: :frown:
fruit
bread
pasta
cheese
mushroom
mercury
grains

In order for this to work, i have to practise 100% exemption!

soooo, that leaves me with most vegatables, protein, nuts, and some beans and yeast/wheat free gains. :indifferent:

Anyways, I've been researching tips, tricks, and recipes for making this easier and posting them all on my pinterest board if anyone else is interested. I figure if doing this properly doesn't make me feel like a million bucks, nothing will!

Anyone else done a blood food allergy test and been surprised by results?
Anyone else had success with a candida diet? any recommended supplements?

Wish me luck! :):flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

    Very interesting!

I actually just got back from the doctor today, and found out that I'm not allergic to anything other than cats and dogs! I was hoping to find out that there were some other things I was allergic to, but no! Back to the drawing board for me.

I'm sure it will be difficult to adjust to a new way of thinking about foods and meals, preparing foods, and eating.

One good food I can recommend to go along with your beans is SHORT GRAIN brown rice. The long grain stuff is kind of gross, if you ask me, but short grain has a much nicer taste and texture.

I don't know what else to recommend, but I wish you well!

Wishing you all the Best! You know you will always have my support.
Also maybe check out Vega line of products. They are Vegan and I am not sure if they are ok for you but worth a look. I love the VEGA ONE. it is a full meal replacement and tastes pretty good (Berry flavour).
    Good luck!

    my naturopath

    this explains a lot

    lol... one day you'll understand!

Already do. My mother went through about ten years with one. Every few months, it was a new food item ("greens") or pill or allregy to this or that or whatnot, and it seemed to change constantly. She went from high-carb to low-carb to no-carb to vegan to vegetarian to carnivore to drinking only green fluid to avoiding peanuts to avoiding wheat to eating only whole grains (including wheat). And that was in the first year.

Turns out that the only green she was apparently allergic to was money, and her naturopath was helping with that a LOT. To the tune of a few grand a year.

She finally gave it all up, went back to the same balanced diet she was healthy on for decades before she found out she was allergic to most of it, and is feeling a whole lot more energetic.

Freelee from 30 Bananas a Day got rid of her candida issues on a high carb raw vegan diet. But she ate a lot of fruit so I am not sure about the sugar thing. Anyway, here is her website if you are interested.

    http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/candida-cleanse/AN01679

Many practitioners of alternative medicine use the term Candida to refer to a complex with broad spectrum of symptoms, the majority of which center around gastrointestinal distress, rashes, sore gums and other miscellaneous symptoms. Candida is accorded responsibility for symptoms as specific as hay fever, as vague as "brain fog" and as common as weight gain or flatulence. These symptoms are attributed by some alternative medicine practitioners to the "overgrowth" of intestinal Candida albicans, which they claim leads to the spread of the yeast to other parts of the body via the digestive tract and bloodstream.[19]
Use of the term Candida in alternative medicine to describe this complex is unassociated with its use in clinical medicine to refer to the fungus that causes vaginal yeast infections and thrush.[11][12] This can be confusing for patients. No studies have proven that having intestinal candidiasis causes any symptoms of illness.[11][12]
To treat what they refer to as Candida, some alternative medicine practitioners have recommended avoiding antibiotics, birth control pills, and foods that are high in sugar or yeast, ostensibly to "eliminate excess yeast" in the body. However, there is little clinically valid evidence that these "Candida cleanse" treatments treat intestinal candidiasis effectively, or cure any of the symptoms claimed by the proponents of the hypothesis.[11][12]
The probiotic Saccharomyces boulardii has been shown to diminish levels of intestinal Candida in mice.[20] This is therefore one of the specific probiotic strains often recommended by alternative medicine practitioners alongside a more general probiotic, for anyone on a "Candida cleanse" or "Candida diet".

Nystatin is a decent treatment. It's a prescription anti-fungal drug that doesn't interfere (read: kill) with good intestinal flora. You still need to follow the diet, but it generally takes less time and clears the candida more completely. Also be sure you are taking a STRONG probiotic, I recommend VSL3, or Ultimate Flora Critical Care. Without proper treatment you could be fighting this for years. It's frustrating and takes time, but stick with it, you will feel SO MUCH BETTER.
