Congratulations!0 -
It's such a triumph, isn't it? I LOVE the running...but get shin splints that kill me. Hopefully you won't have that same problem!
Way to go!0 -

Looks like I have a hanger in my mouth... my smile is that big!
I remember an article that I read on runnersworld.com (thanks Bankable!)
It said to take two steps as you inhale; take two more steps as you exhale ( http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-380-381-386-245-0,00.html )... well, it worked so well!
I have asthma but it didn't stop me at all today.
*sigh*
Hubbz and the girls were with me so I asked hubbz if I looked like a dork running... he said, "nah... you looked a sexy woman out on her run." ...... :blushing: :blushing:
Anywho.... thank you all for sharing this milestone with me and being such an awesome support for me.

That's wonderful Joanna!
I used to run...I got up to 5 miles and ran an 11 minute mile...that's not a fast time but it still burned a good amount of calories and made me feel so strong...I got a late start in my exercise life and I got my wind and lungs way before I gained the muscles around my knees to protect my joints...You look pretty young so I'm sure you won't have the joint strain that I did.
I have to tell you though, my legs are better from bellydance than they ever were when I ran...also used to do lots of crunches and all types of ab work but now that I dance, my stomach is in the best shape ever except for pre child birth.0 -
Congrats Joanna.
Keep up the GREAT work!!!!!!!!!!!

Way to go!
This may look quite stupid, but it works! Running backwards can help to alleviate shin splints. Your muscles just need to move a different way for a while. Running backwards exercises different muscles than running forwards does.
I am not 100% sure of the anatomical workings of shin splints, other than muscle separates from bone and it is very painful! Yuck!0 -
I think I might take up running...0
