Thanks all for sharing
I have been big into the music festival/electronic scene but I'm getting a bit tired of that so I am starting to explore indie bands more, so I appreciate everyones suggestions. I have a friend named Carlos who used to share his indie stuff with me, but he moved to AZ.
Gogol Bordello (weird gypsy? music) and Big Gigantic are bands I like a lot having seen at festivals this summer.
I'm missing Gogol play in NJ on the 2nd.

Where in NJ!?!? North Jersey, right? I'm Jersey.... soooo..... very.... jersey.... haha.
I'm not sure where in Jersey. My friend tried to get me to go, but I'm CT and reopening my non-profit next month.
I once fell asleep at a Gogol Bordello gig. I've no idea how with the sound levels as loud as they were, no criticism of their music, I'd just been burning the candle at both ends for too long I guess!0 -
The Eels, My Brightest Diamond, Lykke Li, Balmorhea, of course Broken Social Scene, the Beta Band and the Be Good Tanyas.
My friend, Jamie Kent!

Jarvis Cocker and these... have you stolen my record collection?!!
Definitely coming back to this thread to find new bands to discover.0 -

Biffy Clyro is great, but their music makes me sad.... well what I've heard... I like Many of Horror.... good song! Twin Atlantic is who my daughter loves too!!! They're good!0 -
OOOOH! I forgot about Ballpark Music..... "It's Nice To Be Alive" is my jam right now! HAPPY MUSIC!0
-
Also... if you like poppier music... ROD KIM.... he's a buddy of mine.... and The Paper Janes (more indie).... Jessica Latshaw has such an amazing voice!!!0

Me.
Some favourite bands include Animal Collective, Neutral Milk Hotel, Beirut, Broken Social Scene, TV On The Radio, Bon Iver, Dirty Projectors, The Walkmen and Interpol to name a few.
I love TV On The Radio, NMH, LOVE LOVE LOVE Beirut.... Interpol is another good one..... I'll have to look into the others.... I've heard some on Bon Iver, but not enough to really make up my mind....0 -
I'm so excited because the weather is getting warmer and we can pull out our summer favorites (Beirut, Beach House, XX, Florence + Machine, New Pornographers)!
Lately I've been listening to a lot of Beats Antique. They are a little more heavy bass-belly-dancing-electronica than traditional indie- but it's really good workout music! I would start with the album 'Collide' if you are interested. For a while they were giving away a whole album for free on their website...0 -
A majority of the bands mentioned are amazing in my opinion.
Beach House, First Aid Kit, Explosions in the Sky, Cat Power, Sharon Van Etten, Fiona Apple, Jack White's new album is good! (as are The White Stripes), Iron & Wine, Grizzly Bear, The Naked and Famous, Interpol, La Sera, Chairlift, Beach Fossils, Sufjan Stevens, Magnetic Fields, Margot & The Nuclear So & So's, Frank Turner, The Kooks, Dead Man's Bones (it's Ryan Gosling, come on), Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, TV On the Radio, Modest Mouse, Arctic Monkeys, Dum Dum Girls, Wilco, Animal Collective, The Smiths, Neutral Milk Hotel, Arcade Fire, Band of Horses, Girls, City and Colour, The Antlers, and above all else: The National.0 -

I've been listening to Bright Eyes, Death Cab For Cutie, The Postal Service, Modest Mouse, Airborne Toxic Event, Florence + The Machine, The Black Keys
I consider myself more to be a punk rocker over an indie rocker though.0 -

Big G is from Colorado. I've liked them for awhile. They are pretty popular here and are blowin up! I wouldn't call them indie, but they are definitely original.
Checking out Grouplove now. Pretty good stuff. This is easily the best MFP thread I've seen in months. :bigsmile:0 -
Some of my favorite bands are Beirut, Bright Eyes, The Horrors, Neutral Milk Hotel, Page France, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Beck, Elliott Smith, Sonic Youth, Belle and Sebastian, Flaming Lips, The Mountain Goats, Death Cab for Cutie, Slowdive, Pale Saints, Of Montreal, Fleet Foxes, The Avett Brothers, Electric President... not all of those are "indie" bands though.0
-
AltNation on Sirius, my radio never leaves that station!0
-
My favorite band of all time is definitely The Hush Sound. I've heard them called a lot of different things, but Indie is usually among them. It looks like I have a ton of new bands to check out.0

Like who? I used to be a real indie kid.. back when I lived in Phoenix (a stop on everyone's tour) and shows were $7. My faves back then were Rainer Maria, Ida, Modest Mouse, Bright Eyes, etc. I will still listen to most of it, but sometimes Conor Oberst's voice makes me want to stab myself in the eardrums. His later stuff is a lot better.
I've gotten into a lot more "mainstream" stuff in the last few years. I always say my favourite genre is Sad Guys With Guitars, though.
Aw no I love Conor Obersts voice. I prefer their earlier stuff, Cassadaga was terrible IMO haha.White Rabbits, Interpol, Cold War Kids, Death Cab for Cutie, Band of Horses, The Editors, Lucero to name a few
Love working out to Lykke Li. Any Dr. Dog fans? Pretty hooked on their latest album. Beta Radio are another favourite (listen to "Brother, Sister") ... The Pastels, The Van Pelt... my brain is fried and it's only Tuesday!0
