Of Montreal are amazing, especially Hissing Fauna are you the Destroyer, Sunlandic Twins, and Paralytic Stalks. Not so into their earlier whimsical/folky stuff though.

I love TV on the Radio too. Young Liars is fantastic; their cover of Mr. Grieves and that version of Staring at the Sun are chilling. Nine Types of Light and to a lesser extent Dear Science are a little overproduced compared to how passionate and raw Young Liars/Desperate Youth and Bloodthirsty Babes/Return to Cookie Mountain are, but they're still pretty decent too.

Now, this isn't exactly "good news", but it was actually the bassist that died. In fact, he died the day I was scheduled to see them in Detroit! However, they made a return trip, and put on one of the most spectacular shows I'd ever witnessed.

So an amazing TV on the Radio concert may still be in your future. :)

Lot's of the ones that have already mentioned more towards heavier side/punk side of independent music, Sonic Youth, Husker Du, Mudhoney, The Adicts, Dead Kennedys, MDC, The Cramps, The Meteors, Demented Are Go, Killdozer, Halo Benders, Lightning Bolt, Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, Devo, Pulp, Camera Obscura, Belle & Sebastian, Mansun, MGMT, Shonen Knife, Guitar Wolf, Wilco, Kings of Convenience, B*tthole surfers, The Antlers, Primus, Unicorns, Don Caballero, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Le Tigre, Raincoats, Styrenes, Henry's Dress, Ex Models, The Slits, Wire, Gun Club, Breeders, Joy Division, The Smiths, The Minutemen, Fugazi, Dinosaur JR, Big Black.

Of the top of my head, I'm sure I've missed many. okay so I'm not very hip and with it, these bands span generations and genres but these are all great bands.

omo, looove neon trees. love some of the flaming lips songs.
i would marry lily allen. just wonderful music and lyrics all around~
Florence + the Machine is also ♥
Regina Spektor I loove too, her voice is so beatiful and soulful (same with florence).
Sleigh Bells are a new favorite of mine~ I love their lyrics.
I'd so **** Lykke Li .... I get lost in her songs. This thread is just puuure awesome!

LOVE LILY ALLEN.... and Sleigh Bells is just perfection.

Oh how I love Lily Allen too! I liked her when she was first kind of popular and just recently I started getting back into her. She's so funny.

As for Sleigh Bells...I would rather shoot myself in the head. I saw them on SNL and thought maybe they just had bad sound equipment and sounded bad live...then I looked up their music and saw it was even worse recorded. That girl has the most awful voice I've ever heard, its so weak and boring!

Very nice list, quite a few of these bands were signed to Touch and Go at some point, can't get more indie than that!

Midlake! They are my favorite. I adore them beyond words. Also, Tame Impala is playing in my city this spring, I'm excited to go!

I just saw Jeff Mangum this weekend in Oklahoma City. My life is complete.

Anyone else love Johnny Flynn? Back a few years ago I thought he would hit it big, then effing Mumford and Sons did instead. And back before Noah and the Whale made their first two albums, wich were good, unlike that latest piece.
