saying 'probably' makes anything a fact.

Is it possible that different people do it for different reasons?

Nah, back to your regular conversation, continue with the overgeneralization of overgeneralizers!

I don't know are you telling me?

and the majority of these answers are generalizations..

people generalize because that's what humans do.. we look for patterns and then once a pattern is recognized we try to apply that pattern to a new situation. if the patterns fits (or we judge it to fit based on our experiences) then we keep it for the new situation. if it doesnt fit then we throw it out and try to find a new pattern or simply ignore the situation all together.

if you dont like generalizations then stop being homo sapiens

Are we assuming that overgeneralizations only come from short-d!cked men?

Maybe it's because they can't communicate very well and feel they have to over generalise things to get their point across. That and the fact that they may not fully understand the topic. Everyone's different.

Because, unfortunately, until they discovered the forums, they probably didnt have alot of variety in their audiences. They were probably used to only speaking their narrow-minded opinions to their like-minded friends and peers. Many probably had no idea that they were generalizing, nor that so many people have differing opinions than they do.

Its sad that the first time they encounter variety and diversity, they are so shocked that they think their new audience is simply nitpicking on their world choices, and not proving that other realities are indeed more than possible, they are all around them and they need to wake up and see that the world is bigger than their livingroom couch.

WHICH THEY SHOULD GET OFF OF.

    And we have a winner!

Because they like to put things into categories. If it's not in a category than it isn't ORGANIIIIIIIZZZZED. #mustorganizeeverything
