What if you were to make socks? It only probably requires like 5 chinchillas so it's not so bad :(

yeah they are from chile. i dont think anyone in this day in age should kill and skin anything for clothes unless you live completely off the grid. its unnecessary and lame, makes you look like a *kitten*. thats how they almost went extinct.

I'm only half kidding, relax. I don't have much against fur wearing though. Most of my shoes are leather and I eat meat, so I'd be a hypocrite to say wearing fur is mean.

I only don't wear it cause I'm worried about the crazy PETA people in nyc who throw paint on you :(

On the other hand, I googled them and they're so cute. It reminds me of a pet hamster that I had

they are not for clothes. Mine was the cutest thing loved it. kept me up a night when it chewed through its wood. Have wanted to get another one, but don't know where to get one where i live now. I loved it when he took his dust baths.

What makes you think they're meant to be pets either? I'm sure it would prefer to live with the other chinchillas in the wild somewhere. At least they don't even know they're clothes. I'm sure they know that they're trapped in a cage though. That's make me more sad :(

i know. i eat meat too, and for some reason i dont think leather is too bad. just because we eat cow a lot, its kinda like using all parts of the buffalo. it just kinda makes me sad that when chinchillas are brought p everybody thinks of fur coats because they are wonderful pets who have personality. but the whole world thinks fur coats because of the 1920's

they are better domesticated. the highest natural way a chinchilla will die in the wild is of starvation. they like people too they are social kinda like birds

My friend had one when we were little. They're so tiny under the fur, I can't imagine anyone eating them. They're like little puffs of smoke.

i think people in chile prefer to eat pinny pigs rather than chinchillas though. chinchillas are more rare and ginnypigs are bigger and they think they taste better.

We have a chinchilla. She doesn't have a tail. She was being born breech and her mama tried to pull her out by the tail and bit it off;(. Her name is Bunny, because of her little stubby tail.

aww she sounds sweet. i guess that can be kinda a common thing chinchillas do when having babies. i seen it with a few. not with the tail but mainly the ears.

i had one. she died very unexpectedly about 2 months ago :-( she was very very sweet and my kids loved her. they still miss her A LOT, even though we did get a bunny to replace her. the bunny just isn't the same. my 4 yr old misses her the most. it breaks my heart. :-(

Victoria, not to pick a fight or anything, but really, you can't compare being slaughtered with being raised as a pet. As long as the animal lives in a good loving family, i wouldn't call it the worst case scenario ever.
Obviously most pets would be much happier being free (not cats, I guess, all the cats i had were so lazy and sleepy and spoiled :)) ), but most of them really have a happy life living in human houses. Well, yeah, if they are caged, like birds that live in very very tight cages, that's not happy.
But nothing compares to being skinned alive and stuff like that, I'm pretty sure. You wouldn't want to see the way animals are killed for fur, skinned alive because there isn't enough time to wait for them to die... It's horrible and I'm sorry if the picture was to visual
On a side note, I think they are JUST ADORABLE and I want one so so so so much! Hopefully I'm gonna get one for my birthday :X

Being slaughtered takes a few seconds or minutes. Once the animal is dead then all is forgotten. I'd rather be dead than live enslaved, personally. You may think the animal is happy but you can't talk to animals. Its cool if anyone wants a pet though. It's just ridiculous to think its any less mean than making food or clothing out of the animal. Either way, you're using the animal for your own pleasure and comfort. All of this has nothing to do with how the animal feels because its all done against their will.

That being said, I love my doggie. If someone somewhere were to eat dogs similar to mine or use them for whatever other reasons I wouldn't think that what they're doing is necessarily cruel. Of course I take good care of my dog the best way I know how to as a human. In the end though, I have no idea how my dog feels about living with humans and not with other dogs because I'm not a dog.

That's just silly... Cruel is cruel, a happy dog is a happy dog, you don't have to be a dog expert to recognize one. Could the dog be HAPPIER? Probably, as we might all be happier in better circumstances. But that doesn't mean that *this* - whatever *this* is - makes his miserable. You CAN tell what your animal is thinking, really, now.. Not the *words*, but you can recognize a mood of the animal.

And I can't believe I've done something I so don't wanna do, that is pick fights over controversial issue on the internet.
    I shouldn't, but I just couldn't help it.
Anyway, yeah, whatever, we all have our own opinions and obviously I cannot convince you and you cannot convince me.

I'm gonna name mine Pitzi which is an abbreviation that means "bimbo", like in *those* girl that act and dress and look like real life Barbies. Because the short arms of the chinchilla remind me of how those girls hold their arms lol
