Fiber One bars

I love the Kellogg Fiber One bars, they taste like candy bars but they have only 1 Weight Watcher (old program) point per bar. Here's the bad news -- they make me fart like a herd of buffalos. It doesn't matter what variety, my family has pretty much demanded that I quit eating these.
Anyone else have this experience with the Fiber One bars? Have you been able to find something equally tasty that doesn't make you toot?

They gave me horrible stomach/abdomen pain... like it hurt to breathe. Every time I ate one... Which sucked because they were filling. Apparently there's an ingredient in them that many people have an issue with...0
-
me too! and they make my colon run like hell! lol I only eat them when I can be close to a bathroom for a few hours. lol0
-
How long have you been eating them? It takes awhile for our bodies to adjust to a higher amount of fiber. If you keep eating them your body will adjust and you won't have the problems. I have one every morning for breakfast and can't feel any affects from them anymore0
-
I just had one of the brownies... I love them.. I don't have digestion issues with them though.. Sorry you are having trouble. Are you drinking lots of water?0

Luna and cliff bars are yummy, they have less fiber so shouldn't make you gassy.
My warning, though, is that they pretty much all have more calories than you need to consume to get the nutrients they contain. Make sense? They aren't really "worth" the calories based on nutrients. I do keep a bunch though for when I'm lazy or rushed or just want something supremely yummy.0 -
I have tried Fiber one but actually like the fiber plus antioxidants bar better! 120cals..not sure on the WW points? It might take time for your body to get use to the fiber , then the" tooting " should subside lol
Fiber plus makes a caramel coconut one and they taste like the caramel delight girl scout cookies! yummy!
I think those are 130 cals though0 -
Hmm, I haven't had that problem. It could be your body adjusting to the amount of fiber, like the above poster said.
If you want to try something else I recommend Kashi Go Lean Protein/Fiber bars. They are 180 calories and this calculator I just found says they have 3 WW points (old). I haven't had a problem with them though so it might be worth a try! x0 -
The wife eats the Fiber One bars and brownies pretty regular. She has lost something like 30 pounds, Wether or not those help or not she says it fills the sweet tooth she suffers from.0

Yep. When I was on WW before, I loved these but couldn't eat them anymore after a while. One of my colleagues who enjoys them calls them "fart bars" b/c of what they do to her!!0 -
That explains one of my coworkers....0

agree! I eat one every day... give it a week and u will adjust...just your body cleaning out the $***!0 -
Yeah, Fiber One bars give me gas issues and stomach pain, too. Some say it's because of the high amount of fiber, but there's what, 9 grams of fiber in a bar? I eat large quantities of fruits and veggies and easily get more fiber than that, and I don't get stomach pains from those. I also like Promax protein bars, which have 14 grams of fiber in them, and those don't give me gas or stomach issues either. I don't know what it is, but there's something in Fiber One bars in particular that gives your stomach hell.0
-
Make sure you aren't getting a lot of extra fiber from your other foods. If you took something like beano you should be ok with them..0
-
try the 90 calorie ones.. they may not be as harsh.. I loooooooooooove the fiber brownies. I put 1 T of peanut butter on them for a snack or a dessert. LOVE them. stick with it... the stink will subside.0

Any fiber supplement can do that, especially if your body isn't used to a significant dose of fiber. Beano can prevent it, though.0 -
I have no problem eating them (one a day usually) but my mom can NOT eat them or she's gassy ALL. DAY. LONG. Too much fiber in one sitting for her.
It may get better as your body gets used to it though too.0 -
I love them...but to processed for me to eat anymore. If you like them try the Kellogg's - Fiber Plus Antioxidants Chewy Bars they have one that is like a girl scout Samoas....so yummy....I miss eating them!!0

Thank you Christine. And congrats on 99 lbs. lost! and thanks to all for the replies. This seems to be a good community and I'm happy to be here.
I have tried the brownies, they're delicious. I wish someone would make an individual serving cheesecake that is only about 100 calories. Weight Watcher Smart Ones used to make one that was 3 (old program) points but it's been discontinued.0 -
Miraculously I have not had any problem with either the chocolate brownies nor the chocolate chip granola bars. I am so sorry to hear that they're not agreeing with you. My digestive system can be pretty temperamental and adding fiber to it certainly helps me. Hope your situation works out!0
-
Can't eat those -- they make my belly hurt too much. Have switched to Cliff Z Bars, which have 130-ish calories and are pretty good in a pinch, like first thing in the morning before a workout. They're quick and easy and give me enough calories to make it through some cardio before a "real" breakfast.0

No wonder I've been so gassy! I was wondering what the hell it was that I was eating. I used to eat Kashi cereal for breakfast EVERY morning, and then the gas went away. So it's been awhile since I've had so much fiber again. body just needs some getting used to. =]0
-
They do that to me also....I can clear out the room. My body seems to have adjusted.. I think.. I have also tried the Luna ones and is not as bad. Nutz over chocolate is my fav. I tried the slim fast 3 2 1 peanut crunch.. it tastes like a butterfinger.0
-
I eat them as a sweet treat and my husband eats one every day. We eat a fairly high fiber diet though and have for years. I agree with whomever mentioned that a high fiber load like that can take getting used to. Sudden increase in fiber can cause tummy trouble for sure. Lots of water is a must.0
-
the 35% screw me up bad.. likely due to the chicory root.. the 20% ones are fine..
either way, i prefer the Kashi dark mocha almond bars. They are better in every way.
just remember it's not the AMOUNT of fiber... it's what kind of fiber it consists of...
For example.. i east quest bars with 18g of fiber (most of your days worth ~60%).. but it's prebiotic fiber.. it causes no bloating or abdominal pains.0 -
I have experienced the same thing as many other members have stated with Fiber One bars. Whenever I would eat one, my stomach would hurt so bad I couldn't move or breathe. It was an awful experience until I figured out what was causing it.
Fiber One bars would upset my stomach and expand it by gargantuan proportions. It seriously looked like I was pregnant; that is how far out my stomach would extend. It would only subside later in the day or until after I slept it off through the night. After some research, I found that many people were having this or similar issues with these bars as well. I definitely know that the "high" amount of fiber in one serving was partially to blame as I am someone who doesn't have a lot of fiber in my diet. However, I know this is not the only reason, though I don't know exactly what else is in them to create this experience. The reason why I say this is that I can eat the Kellogg's Fiber Plus bars (has more fiber than the Fiber One bars I was eating) with absolutely no problems, along with the Fiber One brownies and Fiber One cereal. These also have higher amounts of fiber, but none of these have caused the same problem as the Fiber One bars. Some actually have higher amounts of fiber than the bars that were causing the problems! (I should also make it apparent that I was eating the 90 calorie bars, with only the 20% daily fiber value; not the regular ones with 35%)
I don't know what else could be in the bars that could cause this, but there obviously must be something! Or it is completely in my head, which I wouldn't put far past myself.0 -
I never get gas with them or toilet issues. If I eat one at work everyone is like omg how can you eat that they bother me. well not me. I think they are delicious, wish they had some protien in them.0
-
I eat them a lot and your body WILL adjust.
Someone suggested reducing your fiber from other sources. I 100% DISAGREE with that. When you are trying to lose weight, don't cut back on your fiber. ever.
I also eat Kashi granola bars (mocha is my favorite, but it is hard to find). They are actually a bit more natural and not gas makers0 -
The kelloggs fiber bars tear my stomach up SO bad but Ive heard a few people say just stick with it and it will subside and even go away completely after a while. Has anyone else stuck it out and noticed it get better on their stomach?? If I have hope this eventually wont be an everyday issue, Ill just wait it out til my body gets used to it...0
-
I have the fiber one brownies but I tend to stay away because of the sugar content.. I will do a "kind" granola bar instead... I don't fart when I have the brownies but remember the bars making my butt talk a bit :-)0
