Cottage Cheese Anyone?

I love it but why eat something you don't want? What are you replacing? Because like any cheese it has a lot of sodium.
...why eat stuff you hate? this is a lifestyle change..not a diet to just eat restricted foods while losing then go back to old habits when you reach goal!!
:flowerforyou: o.p.
Hey guys, I don't know if I hate it or not --- I haven't tried it before! I have seen lots of people say they like it or at least they seem to eat it a lot, and others hate it. So before I tried it, I just wanted to hear the reasoning behind how people liked it and how they consumed it! :-)0 -
Cottage cheese is delicious! I particularly like it with pineapple in the morning. I also like it with Italian dishes.0

Pears and cottage cheese is my favorite! And mixing cottage cheese with yogurt, as another poster mentioned, is not only a healthy, filling snack, but a pretty tasty combination. Also, I love Ritz crackers with cottage cheese and salad supreme sprinkled on top. Mmm...0

I just bought myself some cottage cheese today, however I am very wary and not particularly looking forward to trying it as I have heard from many that it doesn't taste very nice... Can anyone help me in telling me how they eat their Cottage Cheese - in a tasty way and low calorie (of course!).
Pictures are also most welcome!
Thanks in advance! xxx
Give it a try and if you don't like it don't eat it. I personally LOVE cottage cheese. I prefer Old Home brand. I used to buy the full fat version. It took some getting used to but I enjoy the Fat Free just was much now.0 -
First off, the more milk fat it has the tastier it is, right? But to me, anything under 4% milkfat is inedible. I like cottage cheese with salsa and avocados, or with peaches in the morning. I eat it with pickles and seasoning for a quick snack, and as a side dish I dip my chips into it0

Don't give up on cottage cheese if you've only tried one brand. There are some brands that I can't stomach and I like cottage cheese. The brand I've found that I like the best is Organic Valley followed by Kroger brand. If I'd only tried Breakstone or Daisy I wouldn't like cottage cheese either! I've never tried it with fruit. I usually just eat it by itself. Sometimes I'll blend it as a sour cream substitute if I don't have any greek yogurt.0

it's a good, filling breakfast and stays with me nicely until lunchtime.0 -

I totally agree. I only eat Kroger brand. Those 2 "name" brands were yucky! I don't know...too mushy or something and an unpleasant taste. Maybe they'd be OK in lasagna, but not plain. I like cottage cheese best with canned pears, though pineapple and peaches are good too, as others have mentioned.0 -
I happen to love it. I buy the friendship no salt added 1%. Be careful, some braands have a ton of sodium. I usually have it for a snack and add a half cup of blueberries.0
-
Some things I add are:
cottage cheese and hamburger (great for low carb diets)
cottage cheese and tuna (same thing, also super quick)
cottage cheese and jam
cottage cheese and fruit (especially cantaloup)
I really haven't strayed too far from those but they are quick, easy, and tasty0 -
I love it with garden fresh Tomatoes and just a touch of pepper yum!!0
-
Pb2, FF cottage cheese and splenda with ground flax seed, and splenda it sounds wierd but it's an awsome breakfast!0
-
I've only tried it once. I don't mind the taste, but I can't get past the texture. I bought a container of it on sale, so I'm hoping to hide it in recipes.0

Cottage cheese is delicious with fruit mixed in it. I also use it as a base for some protein shakes, and as a base for low fat/cal creamy homemade mac & cheese. It's also good with a little pepper and pickles.0

I love cottage cheese. I love pairing it with fresh fruit (apples, pears, etc). I also love it plain with just a sprinkle of pepper on it.0
-
I mix fruit in mine.0
-
I like my cottage cheese with pepper and dry roasted sunflower seeds. So yummy on salad.0
-
I like it, but I use a 1/4 cup on some of my salads, because I love to pour on the RANCH... so if I use cottage cheese and only the 2 tbls of ranch, I save myself on cals but not texture or flavor. And for a snack.. 1/4 and sliced cucumbers or tomatoes is YUMMY0
-
a few ways i do is add a tables spoon of strawberry jam, or a teaspoon of brown sugar.0
-
Canned sugar-free peaches!!! I always add them to my cottage cheese :-D0
-
You can add it as protein to shakes--it works well and you don't even know its there.0

I used to think that I also hated cottage cheese, but lately I have made it a staple of my diet. I eat on its own or mixed it with "Del Monte No Sugar Added Fruit Cups." I especially like it with peaches and pears. Don't be afraid, get the 1% version, and you'll be fine! It's great to fill you up for a couple hours without adding a lot of calories to your day.0
-
I would not eat it by itself, but mixed in some scrambled eggs and with a little avocado and pepperjack cheese...it's pretty amazing.0

The first time I tried it, my stomach was upset for two days afterwards because the texture freaked me out so much. I was honestly sick to my stomach because I kept remembering it. And then I thought to myself, "self, you are being ridiculous!" I tried it again and liked it.
Now it's just about my favorite thing in the world. For an after-workout treat, I will mix it with some frozen banana, cinnamon, and a bit of graham cracker. It's terrific with any kind of berry. It's terrific with veggies if you mix in some yummy spices. LOVE IT!
So, if you don't like it at first, keep trying it and trying different brands. If I could get to like it, so can you!0 -
I hate cottage cheese on its own. Blech! I don't care what fruit is mixed in. Weight Watchers has a "Favorites" recipe book. So many tasty recipes in there, and quite a few contain cottage cheese. There's one for blueberry blintzes, where you mix farmers cheese and cottage cheese with blueberry jam and roll it into a thin pancake. It's high in fiber, protein, and calcium, but low in calories and fat. SO delicious... I might make some this week!
LOVE this book!

Plain with some pepper
or
with FRESH (never canned) Pineapple
or
with fresh strawberries
or
topped with applesauce
or
in my salad with a bit of blu cheese
or
it's endless really
but it is true....lots of sodium.0 -
I like cottage cheese...but not with fruit. I like it with chopped tomatoes on the side or avocado....and usually with some sort of crackers or chips (the healthier kind) )0
-
I like adding 2 parts chick peas to 1 part cottage cheese with some lemon, paprika and garlic in a blender and using it as a dip wiht carrots celery etc.
This sounds SO amazing!! I have to try it! Thanks for the idea0 -

So agree! Life is too short to eat stuff you don't like and success is unlikely if you are trying to eat foods you do not enjoy. With that said, I too like it. I mix it in with my eggs and scramble them. Makes them light, fluffy and a bit cheesy. No cottage cheese taste at all. Low cal high protein breakfast.0 -
I tried Nancy's low-fat Organic cottage cheese and it was so gross. I went back to Daisy 4% milk fat cottage cheese and love it by itself, although I typically add 10 grapes, half a ya pear, Saigon cinnamon and Enjoy Life Crunch Flax cereal.0
