I've got a couple on my back that look like I took a couple bullets. There's no hiding them if I wear anything strapless or halter style, so I've just decided to pretend they're not there, and if someone asks, I DID get shot in the back

I have a six inch long purple scar on my left elbow from surgery. It's very visible, all it takes is having my arm slightly elevated and it sticks out like a sore thumb especially because the end on my elbow is calloused over and always red. I'm not ashamed to have the scar seen. My mother has a scar over her right shoulder on her back from where they cut off a 20lb tumor and it didn't stop her from wearing dresses that showed it. And now she has the chest scar from a double bypass/valve replacement and she'll go out in low-cut shirts and v-necks without a care.
Yes people will see the scar on you, some might even wonder how you got it, but we all get scars from something. They're normal, like freckles, birthmarks, and acne. No one will be disgusted if you have it visible and if you find the rare fool who is then you know who not to socialize with.0 -
I notice scars, but not in a "ewww" kind of way. I always wonder how they got it. In March, I had a cyst removed from my chest. Nice red scar right smack in the middle. I figure now I just have to wear really low cut shirts so people notice the boobs instead. :laugh:0

My daughter who used to have a near perfect body and earned extra money doing modeling was involved in a near fatal motor vehicle accident. She was left with many scars including a long scar running all the way up her tummy. Add to this the scars on her arms, scars from where the drains were in her lungs and a scar on her neck where the trachea tube was inserted. The doctors where so focused on restructuring her face during a 12-hour long operation that all the other work was done very hastily with the result that the scars are quite bad.
She went through a terrible time trying to get used to the scars and really became very withdrawn until one day she decided that she's going to stop worrying about her scars!. She just dumped the baggy clothes that covered everything and went out and bought a bikini, a short and a t-top and went to the beach. I even offered to pay for plastic surgery to have her scars fixed, but she refused and said if I want to waste money on plastic surgery I can rather buy her bigger boobs. She's never looked back and enjoy all the same activities that she used to and she's much happier now. People hardly ever mention her scars any more.
Just accept your scar and flaunt it. Those who do notice or ask about it will only do that once, and then it's over. Life's too short to worry about scars.0 -

I've had 15 surgeries on my right knee and have a whack of scars. At first I avoided showing them, but then someone told me that my scars are part of who I am, and that's the way it is. I think the more we (as a society) try to hide something, the more noticeable it is to others.0

The first gift we are given when we enter the world is a scar; our belly button. Anyone would be lucky to do a shot of Patron from your scar!0

i have stretch marks and a c-section scar(not that id ever wear a bikini that little haha) and other scars and i consider them my badges of honor. i notice them more than anybody as well. wear the bikini.0

I've had my gallbladder removed too (laproscopically) but I still have three distinct scars (they are dark and slightly keloided over) so I know how self conscious you probably are. I know I am about mine.
My stomach is not something I show right now anyway because its fat and flabby. Once I loose weight though and begin to show it more I'll probably just get over my marks.
I might try some products to help reduce their visibility, but I haven't felt the urgent need to. Just me and my hubby looking at them now.0 -
It is not really bad and I wouldn't let something like that keep you from showing off a great body! Flaunt it!0

I have a scar on my stomach and on my side from a skin cancer scare. I wear them with pride. They mean I've been through things and come out stronger on the other side. Rock it girl!

I have dozens of scars from disability related surgeries. When I was younger I didn't like to show them, but now I think nothing of them and don't care whether someone sees them or not. They're a part of me, so hiding them is hiding a part of me, and that just ain't happenin'.0

I love your sense of humor. I say wear that bikini and to heck with what anyone thinks, or not, about your scar. It just might even make a great conversation starter for the love of your life to approach you and chat. Who knows? You look great, by the way!0

Girl, you better wear that bikini out because you are rocking it! As a physical therapist I hear this from my patients all the time and I'll tell you the same thing I tell them: do you and if anyone has a problem with it they don't have to look. Don't stop living the way you want to live to please shallow people. And honestly, it's one of the last things I noticed about the photo and mainly because I was looking for it. If anyone asks about it, tell them your ninja past with a straight face and move on.0

I had a tumor that had started in my throat and even after chemo had to go through an 11 hour surgery. The tumor started in my throat and went behind my chest wall. It actually started to enroach on my heart. Because of the surgery, I have a scar across my throat and down my chest. I hate it. I admire you for wearing a bikini and being able to wear your scar proudly. Honestly, if you hadn't said to look, I wouldn't have noticed your scar at all. I seen this posted on facebook a while back and it is helping me deal. Hope it might do the same:

I am already very reticent to wear a bikini because of my stretch marks, then you add the scar and I might just wear it in my bedroom. So please tell me the truth, would you be disgusted if you saw me at your public pool?

Wear it. Scars are your history, and a mystery. I have made friends just from people asking about scars. My right thigh is a mess of scars, one runs across the top of my hip and down almost to my knee, with 3 that run parallel to that one. I'm not going to keep myself from wearing shorts in july for fear of someone seeing.0

rock it. scars are cool. i have one on my thigh from a box cutter and i'd never cover it up, i EARNED that thing. people with scars usually have awesome stories to tell.0
