Hi all,
Truth be known,
would you really want a member of the opposite sex to start speaking to you in the Gym,
or would you think they were trying to chat you up.

( they might just be being friendly and have no designs on you at all )

Be honest.

I think you can generally tell if someones interested in more than your looks.. its all in the approach ... I personally , am a serious people person.. so I will talk/hang... with anyone. unless they get creepy.. or too touchy .. but I am okay with speaking my mind..

I dont have a problem letting someone know they are crossing the line.

    overall why not..

I wouldn't call him a perv. I hope it would be a casual conversation.

No I wouldn't think they were hitting on me. I'm the only girl who goes to my gym, everyone who talks to me is a guy, and seeing as I've been going there a long while, people do say hi / ask how training's going / offer to spot me etc.

You can tell when people are trying to chat you up just by the way they look at you, and the things they say. I've never had that in the gym.

If I saw bad form, I may run over to a member of staff and send them over. I probably wouldn't want anyone to talk to me and I wouldn't bother with them. My workouts are about me, not anyone else.

If someone came over, I'd probably grunt and then just got on with things!

Nowaways I avoid the globo-gym and do my chaotic caveman circuits in my home gym!

Summary: The eyes will show you if they're perving!

I work out at a smaller gym, and many times I am the only girl there, so it will be a pretty lonely place if our boys didn't talk to me.

We have a bunch of regulars, and when you pass someone you will at least acknowledge them - and a smile.....

We all work out pretty damn hard - so there is not a massive amount of chit chat - but we all acknowledge when someone puts in some massive effort, or achieve something special.

The gym also has a facebook page - we most probably "socialise" more there than we do in the gym....

So - no - I don't see a guy talking to me in the gym as inappropriate - as long as he appreciates I am there to work hard - and I am not going to interrupt my workout to chit chat...

I had a gym membership once at this place where every time a woman (including me, out of shape as I was) would walk past the weight-lifting area, all the men would start staring and whistling. It was horrible. I tried to cancel my membership after several days of that and the gym battled me over my contract for a year. I will never join another corporate-owned gym because of this. I stick with the YMCA or the facilities at my university now and am much happier.

That said, I will always talk to men or women who are just being friendly or helpful when it seems sincere. I always appreciate any advice or help on how to operate the machines or improve my form so that I don't hurt myself. I wouldn't want to get asked out on a date in this context though, not unless I had gotten to know the person for a long time and already felt comfortable around them. That's just me, though.

I would think you can tell if the guy is trying to pick you up versus just being friendly. For me, I'm there to workout and normally just say "Hi", "Good Bye", "Have a Great Day", "Good Morning", etc... and don't spend a lot of time chit chatting. I sometimes feel like I'm rude because I don't know many people's names but see them outside the gym and wave, smile and then get the look from my wife and "who was that?" She now realizes I may know the nice lady, gentlmen or couple but never really know them more than from the gym and maybe if they do more weights or cardio.

So I'm guessing I'm wierd, but I try not to get all up in people's faces, especially young ladies as I never want to be though of as a creeper! Just MHO.

I've been at the gym for almost 2 months and no one has really spoken to me there. I wish someone would chat to me so I could make new friends, but I'm super shy so I just get on with it. Plus, I look like a sweaty beetroot so I don't blame them haha.

Did have this one pervy guy say something to me as I was going to the changing rooms though! He was old enough to be my father, ick.
