I would bet this is based on absolutely no science whatsoever.

There are human Ken's as well as Barbies.
And the world falls all over itself to shower these unworthy ones with everything their little heart's desire.
Welcome to the human race. Nobody ever said life was fair.
Those few with perfect beauty sail through life while the rest of us struggle.
To all the Ken's and Barbies out there:
    Salute! :drinker:

    great post..

i have to say this is one of the many many reasons i'm glad i grew up as a little black girl in the 70's.. 90% of these impossible body image issues (ie trying to look like a doll, trying to look like the models in a magazine, etc) were never really an issue or a thought for me or my black friends because we were never under the illusion we could ever look like barbie. barbie was simply a toy like a leggo that i might like to play with but i'm never thinking "gee i want to look like that"
You know I never really thought of it this way but you're right. It never crossed our minds to look like Barbie. I wanted to look like Chaka Khan.

this left out a comment about barbie's boobs. is that realistic?
The size of her boobs, while pretty big, isn't completely insane. (Although they are super perky...) It's the corset-shape of her torso that really gives that effect.

Glad I never wanted to be Barbie. Maybe Sailor Moon, but never Barbie.

I always related better to Skipper. :ohwell: I never wanted to be Barbie. I used to use a magic marker and give her dark roots.

I also played with Fisher Price Little People and Weebles. They didn't have any impact on my self-image, either.

    ^This.
Actually...I didn't play with too many dolls...I did play with Little People and Weebles and my brother and I acted out scenes from Star Wars in the backyard...lol...

Somehow I always ended up twisting barbie's head off and they never go back on right again. Perhaps I should reflect on this now that I am an adult...
