Ladies! Do you gain weight during your period?

I gain too - usually a pound of two - and then one week afterwards I'm back to normal. I just stay away from the scale the week leading up to, and during!!0

I read online that women can gain up to 12lbs worth of water weight during their period, this I'm sure is also in part due to cravings and giving in to salty and sweet foods that increase water retention. Just try to stay hydrated as much as possible while keeping away from high sodium foods and sweets as usual. I've been known to pack on 5-7lbs of water weight within a few days and almost dropped dead of shock0

no i do not. but i dont eat any more during that time and i still work out at the same level0

So glad I am not the only one. I have been working so hard to lose the last of my baby weight and last month had lost 6 pounds. The day my period started I got on the scale and had gained back all 6 pounds! I felt more bloated then normal and could tell in my face and fingers that they looked a lot more chubbier. I am on my 4th day today and have lost almost all the weight except a pound or two. Still can't get my wedding ring off so hopefully the water weight will be off by the end of the week.0

All the time! I usually gain between 5 and 8 pounds! And I'm only 4,110

Yes!
This is what I do:
a) avoid the scale - I know it's water retention weight and a PMS thing, but the numbers can get depressing or scary anyway, so no scale until my period's over.
b) keep a pair of jeans that are slightly bigger than my size. I often get bloated during my period and I don't like the feeling of tight clothes. Besides the obvious physical discomfort, they make me feel larger and it's not a nice feeling.
c) drink a lot of water and herbal tea0 -
I lost weight.... like 2 pounds leading up to mine and have gained back 4.... but dont get me started on the inches ive gained since starting my period..... no impressed.... my monthly weigh in and measurements are in 6 days.... i pray i am back on track for it.0

I am currently on my period and since I have gained one pound and have been stuck there for the past few days. Do you gain during your period? And if so, how much for how long?
Yes I tend to gain weight. Once I gained 9 lbs. in 3 days. YIKES! Lately, I have really tried not to gain, and the past 2 cycles have been gain free!! yay, but we will see long term. My cravings that time of the month are so overly intense it is quite a feat to not give in!0 -
Yes. It is actually proven that your weight can fluctuate 2-5 lbs while on your period. My usually only goes up about a pounds but drops as soon as my period is over.0
-
nope...i tend to lose more actually. lol im a freak.
I'm the same way! I gain before my period, and the second I get it I lose like crazy.0 -
Yes because I get bloated and because I am so hungry and eat a lot. Anywhere from 3-6 pounds. If I wait until a couple of days after, then I am back to my original weight again.0
-
I always put on a few pounds during that time of the month...I stopped paying attention to it...cause it always comes off....0
-
Nope, that's about the only time I lose weight anymore.0

You crave more during your periods and you can gain up to 3 kilos during your periods. Yes, you can and many women do weigh more during their periods. It will usually even out during the month and "naturally" come right. I usually weigh more around my period and can pick up, but I lose it quicker. The times I lose are usually when I'm sick (I can get bad periods) or I've had no appetite.
Also, a lot of your body can bloat e.g.g. stomach , breasts etc. that makes you seem to gain weight.
Don't stress about it.0 -
Yes. Experiencing period-induced weight gain/stagnation right now.0

I gain up to three pounds during my period week......
But comes off after again.....guess its just a lot of water or because i take painkillers0 -
Yup -- usually a few days before, and it comes off a few days after it ends. It's totally water retention.
I weigh as usual, log, and move on.0 -
yup 2 pounds, all of which are gone when i'm done0

I'm lucky to be on birth control that only gives me my period a couple times a year! When I'm on my period, I can't stay out of the pantry...0
-
No, I usually gain water weight, but by the time my period finishes it's usually all gone.0
-
I always retain water the week leading up to my period and during it. Don't sweat it!0

The responses here are very encouraging because I, too, have wondered about this. I always seem to bloat and feel heavier, and though my diet and exercise routine has been kept and even changed up a little (the exercise) I have gone back up on the scale rather than down. However, I am expecting my cycle early Friday morning, and I have felt the bloating coming, and I've been super irritable, so it will probably be on time. I'm hoping that things will return to normal after it's all over. I feel like I've fought too hard to come even this far and then quit, you know?0

I actually LOSE like crazy the week before, but gain the week after. I know...I'm a weirdo0
-
I'm just going to have to work in a little chocolate each day somehow. Not the protein shake chocolate either, REAL milk chocolate. That is the only craving I have when my unwanted guest arrives.0
-
nope...i tend to lose more actually. lol im a freak.

I am so jealous0 -
oh my yes, usually right before, but I try not to change anything. Usually gain 5-7 pounds, usually go back down to normal, plus loose more, but dont change anything: diet or exercise
I am the same usually but I have noticed that if I exercise more and I am eating right then I will gain only about 2-3 versus the 5-6
Same....used to gain 5-7 pounds easy but now maybe 1-2 pounds but I find if I walk more and drink more water than normal it helps with the water weight....0 -
I weighed myself today and im up 2 pounds and on my fourth day is this normal?.0
