What can be used instead of applesauce? Can't get that in the uk
I wanted to ask the same thing... Google search says it's the low fat substitute for oils in baking, so some kind of oil? I know then it must up the calories..
Im going to make my own and freeze it in half cup portions.
Maybe applesauce is called something different in the UK? Take an apple, peel it, cut it up and put it in a saucepan with about a tablespoon of water and simmer until the apples are soft. Then mash it up. Tada! You have applesauce.0 -

I'm in Australia and we don't have applesauce like they do in the US either. This is what I do:
Look in the babyfood section for 100% apple in a can or jar.
Or, look for apple puree in with other fruit snack packs.
Or look for pie-apple in the tinned fruit section.
Or, peel and quarter an apple and cook it in the microwaver then puree it.
Or, grate a regular apple (not quite apple sauce, but should give it moisture and sweetness).
Sure we do (in Australia), there's heaps in the sauce aisle.. this one for example http://www.spcfoodservice.com.au/index.php?option=com_products&id=31&Itemid=57&product=2780 -

Applesauce is really easy to make. You can google for a recipe that is to your liking. All it really is is cored and peeled apples that are cooked in a touch of water until they become soft. Then, they are mashed. Some recipes use a sweetener and/or spice of some sort. I even saw one that used cider instead of water. If you can get Mac Intosh apples where you are, they are really the best for this kind of recipe.
(Pretend you are making mashed potatoes.)
Edit: I noticed I just repeated someone in an earlier post. I'm sorry about that. :-(0 -
