I'd vote for a simple birthday party at home with family and maybe a few close friends. Simple, do it yourself. Its as much for the pet as it is just a good reason for a get together, centered around the pet ofcourse :) But a lavish, expensive, go out party for a pet just doesn't seem practical to me. And I do love my 3 dogs very much and they are spoiled to death.

Yes! Fortunately all my cats share the same birthday so it's easy.

Maybe if it's only for immediate family members. Otherwise EW TACKY.

    I vote NO.

Yes, my dogs get a nice big fresh bone for their birthdays and a new toy. That is all we do though.

Our cats get petgrass, nip, a new toy and a new cardboard box every birthday. They seem to enjoy it a lot.

For, but my cat runs the house. I don't even get to decide what kind of cake she orders.

I got my dog a cake for her first birthday and took her to the dog park.

    In hindsight, I was crazy.

I wouldn't personally, but hey if you want to I say go for it! I would do it myself though if I were going to do it... I'm cheap :)

Yes, and do it yourself. I just recently threw a birthday party for my cat Chloe (seen below in my ticker). At 17, she definitely deserved a party (= I made her a princess hat and she got lactose free ice cream. It was great fun!
ETA: It was a small gathering: Chloe, me, and my son. Not like I invited people or pet guests!

If it works for you, go for it.
