One Month No Scale CHALLENGE

Reasons why you shouldn’t weigh yourself every day
1. The number you see on the scale doesn’t tell you the whole story. How much of that number is muscle, bones, organs, water, body fat, the food that you’ve eaten during the day?
2. Your weight fluctuates daily after you drink water, after you eat (even healthy foods like broccoli, banana, whole wheat bread can cause you to feel bloated for a while), after using certain medications, after you work out, during your menstrual cycle (ladies), etc.
3. During your workouts, you usually sweat a lot and you need to replenish these fluids drinking water during your session; this is another reason why you see a different number after your daily workout routine.
4. If you’ve been lifting weights for a while then you are probably gaining muscle, which occupies less space than its equivalent weight in fat. Lean muscle looks better on your body, even if you don’t see a major change on the scale.
5. Some people let this piece of equipment determine their mood for the rest of the day and it can cause stress which is never good for your body. Don’t let this number define you… You are much more than just a number.
6. Post Workout Swelling: During your strength training session, your muscles fibers are tearing up (with proper nutrition, hydration and rest your body rebuilds them for a stronger you). After an intense workout, your blood rushes to the affected muscles to provide them with proper nutrients to recover and clear lactic acid. This is that “pump” effect you feel when you just finished weight lifting because your muscles are inflamed and this is temporary.
7. The scale doesn’t measure the changes in your health. Focus on other benefits you are getting with your new active lifestyle like…
•You feel more energy.
•Your resting heart rate lowers.
•Bone Density Improves.
•Blood pressure and cholesterol levels improve.
•You sleep better.
•Clothes are fitting better.
•Losing inches.
•You can lift more weight (stronger).
•Your range of motion increases (flexibility).
•You can run more without stopping to walk.
•Excellent yearly checkups with your doctor.

This is a good reminder for me.............not weighing for a month is going to be a huge challenge.........but i'm in~! (except, I'm leaving for vacation about that time so I may end the challenge a day early............we'll see....it's not all worked out yet............)0 -
I am going to take you up on this because I increased my calories from 1200 to 1500, so let's see how this goes!!!0
-
I'm up for this challenge to, it's going to be hard but I can do it0
-
Today is the first day of the challenge remember, no scale. You are bigger then the scale, the scale has no feelings, emotions, or a mind so don't let it control you. Dont let it talk to you. The first 3-5 days will be the hardest but you are capable of doing it, it's all in your mind.0
-
Count me in, I'm checking the scale sometimes twice a day. This will help me break the habit.0
-
I was weighing myself about 15 times a day!! It was getting crazy!
I put the scale in the trunk of my boyfriends car this morning.
So I told him not to give it to me till August 19th.0 -
I'm in for sure!!! I've reached a plateau and the scales are driving me crazy! Then with added exercise and again no weight loss it's really knocking me down and I have been told not to weigh for a month so I am in for sure if that's ok.0
-
Yaaaay lets do it! My clothes are fitting better and I "feel" smaller, but the scale refuses to change. Total downer, so no more scale for me :-) yaaaay see you guys in a month!
This is me too!!! I am in!!
SW - 2390 -
Ive done this three times and two out of three times I had good results after the month of not peeking at the scale. If I weigh in on the 19th it will be the day after my week long vacation.... but I think I can try it. I have been a little crazy about the scale lately and it never says what I want therefore I eat more- so stupid of a result but there it is. Good luck to you all!
SW: 262
GW: 2550 -
I would have major withdrawls!! Gonna have to pray about this challenge! lol!!

I am going to try. I usually weigh myself twice a week. I work at a Dr's Office so there are scales everywhere! It will definitely be a lesson in discipline.

Like this idea, weighing in is great if you've lost but I find I get really down if I haven't so no more scales until then!!0
-
OK, just saw this so I will start tomorrow morning. This is going to be VERY hard for me. My usual morning routiine is potty, brush, weigh.........
But it is becoming an obsession........ My husband will thank who ever thought this one up!!0 -
I'm IN! I do rely on that silly scale too much for my own self esteem, even though I know I'm doing/feeling/looking better!
I, too, will need to take the batteries out or I shall be tempted, LOL0 -
I'm IN!
I had my normal weekly weigh in this morning, so it's a perfect time to start. I'm becoming obsessive with weighing every morning and it really affects my mood/motivation even just 0.5kg! Im going away on 16th August so might have to finish then....if that's ok?
CW: 169lb
GW (aug 16th): 160lb
Going to stuff the scales in the back of a cupboard somewhere as soon as i get home!0 -
I went for a consultation at The Diet Center here in my hometown and was so astonished at the results.
Body Fat %= 37%
Water Weight= 95lbs
BMI= results severly obese
Should I go on. This seems like a real jolt to my self esteem.
I have lost 8 lbs since joining in June. They actually wanted me to pay $600 to join and $59 each week for their supplements. That is not going to happen. I can continue with MFP for free.
I will not weigh myself again until August 19. Hopefully there will be at least a 5 lb difference in my favor.
Let me know how it goes for you.

I'm in (reluctantly-but i need someone to push me a little.)
Goal is to lose 7 lbs in 1 month. Shoot for the gutter and when you reach the stars you'll be even happier!!0 -
I'm so in. I'm getting hooked on numbers, and when I crept up a couple pounds in the last couple weeks (which I know isn't real weight because I strictly follow my eating plan and I workout at least 6 times a week), I've been starting to stress. I need to focus on the improvement I see everyday rather than the number on the scale!
SW: 150.8
CW: 132.8
GW: 1250 -
I'm in... like the pictures idea too...
CW: 163.2
GW: who knows
current BF: 25.8%

Gave my scale to a friend at work to keep on July 2nd.0
-
Day 1 has been successful...I did not step on the scale this morning when I woke up and it made me feel awesome, like the scale didn't have control over me!!!
I could definitely keep this up til August 19th!!
Starting Weight: 194 pounds
Goal for 08/19/2012: 185 pounds0 -
I'm totally in. I've been obsessing too much about the number on the scale and when I gain (even if it's only half a pound), I get so devastated. It's discouraging. So I had decided after last week's weigh-in, I'm not going to weigh myself for a month and see what a difference it will be.0
-
Okay...I will make this my very first challenge on MFP...I'll have my son keep the scale in his room so I'm not too tempted to peek.
SW: 190.40 -
So wanted to weight myself when I got up this morning, lol that's gonna be a hard habit to break :P0
-
