DHMO: We've gotta ban this stuff
Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) is a colorless and odorless chemical compound, also referred to by some as Dihydrogen Oxide, Hydrogen Hydroxide, Hydronium Hydroxide, or simply Hydric acid. Its basis is the highly reactive hydroxyl radical, a species shown to mutate DNA, denature proteins, disrupt cell membranes, and chemically alter critical neurotransmitters. The atomic components of DHMO are found in a number of caustic, explosive and poisonous compounds such as Sulfuric Acid, Nitroglycerine and Ethyl Alcohol.
Each year, Dihydrogen Monoxide is a known causative component in many thousands of deaths and is a major contributor to millions upon millions of dollars in damage to property and the environment. Some of the known perils of Dihydrogen Monoxide are:
- Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
- Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
- Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
- DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
- Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
- Contributes to soil erosion.
- Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.

Food, yes.
Exercise equipment, yes when dirty.
Beer, yes.
Porn, maybe.0 -

It has been found *on* pornography.0 -
No place is safe any more. There is a swell of it in my back yard. My daughter and our dogs were doused in when she gave them a bath recently. There needs to be a government commitee on how to control, tax and ban the hell out of this. I think rml_16 should be the chair person.0

Well damn...I used to just drink one beer a day or every other day due to the calories and swelling it can cause me once in a while. But if its in beer and its going to kill me, I might as well swig the stuff like I really want to and just drink all my cals.0

That would make me an Anti-dentite. What kind of animal do you take me for?0 -
I love it! I had a teacher in college that gave us a website about it...awful stuff :laugh:0

this is a much bigger deal than people realize.
this is often found in canned foods, as well as in most animal products.
it can be found at playgrounds, swimming pools and even day-care centers. :frown:
i can't believe that the proper governing agencies are not dealing with this.
thank you for shedding some light, i hope that with some grass-roots initiative we can make some headway.0 -
my biggest problem is its identical twin hydrogen hydroxide.0

I'm sure glad you posted this.. i was just typing almost the exact same subject!!! whew!!!!0

And for this very reason, I always always make sure my eyes are closed when I look up.0 -
Why is there not bigger awareness and outrage?
Oh I get it - it's a hoax ;p0 -
Thank you for sharing this. Im not sure I was aware of this or have ever heard of it before. Will def keep a lookout of this name on the labels of things. Btw, is it labeled or is it like the GMO's where its in it, they just dont have to tell you?
As for the others with snyd and sarcastic remarks, when are you going to realize that just because you dont get sick or fall over dead immediately after ingesting something that it doesnt mean its not bad for you? There is TONS of toxins in our food and everyday living household items that are damaging our health....people just choose to not see it and turn a blind eye and keep believing every single word the FDA says to them.0 -

You're adorable.
If you really think DHMO is bad for you, just stop using it. It'll be difficult though. It's everywhere.0 -

Well, it does appear on product labels. It's just that there are so many different names for it, just like dairy and wheat products. You just need to know what to look for. The relatively small amounts that most of us consume won't have any long-term ill effects on health. It doesn't have a terribly long half-life and we generally will excrete any excess.0 -

Its one of the primary components of acid rain! If it were eliminated we would solve the acid rain problem!0
