Newly diagnosed and metformin
Hi there - I am newly diagnosed and my doctor prescribed 500 mg metformin daily. For some reason I have a serious mental block about taking it. I am really not happy about the idea of nausea and other related side effects. Is this common? Is my dose high enough to cause those? I work FT and have two little ones to run…

Another new diagnosis
Hello all, I was diagnosed today. I'm just a wreck. But a good first step is coming back to MFP full-strength and finding a good community of other folks working with the same problem. I have a great support network and good healthcare. But I'm still reeling - it's an extremely stressful week and this diagnosis didn't…

How to tell my kids
I was newly diagnosed this week. I haven't told my daughters yet. 19 year old twins and a 14 year old. Here's my problem - my girls have always been "on" me to lose weight. This news is not going to help. One daughter in particular is going to go ballistic. How do I tell them about this, yet make it clear what I will allow…

LOOKING FOR SUPPORT/ADVICE.
Hello. I’ll try to make this brief because it's depressing and I hate feeling that way. I’m 24 years old and I was diagnosed when I was seventeen. The nurse who told me said these words: “This disease will kill you.” Period. No explanation of it. Nothing. I’ve been ignoring my diagnosis since I was seventeen. I have no…

Doing a victory lap.
I joined MFP 1 month ago and I went low carb to get better control of my Type 2 diabetes. After 1 month my monitor has my 30 day blood glucose average as...wait for it...97! And I lost 10 pounds. In that time the highest reading I got was 146 and the lowest 61. There were 3 days when my highest reading was in the mid 90's.…

A1C Still down
As my T2 MFP friends know I was diagnosed last summer with an HbA1C of 9.6% I managed to reduce that a little with a change in diet, but as the weight continued to come off and the amount of exercise increased the positive affects on my A1C continued. Today's results were 5.1% my lowest yet. This has all been through…

Diagnosed yesterday...
I was diagnosed with diabetes yesterday: 329 BG/10 AC1 at the Urgent Care facility where I live. I haven't spoken with anyone about it yet. I don't have a real Dr., just a PA/referral person...I see her 29May. After the initial shock wore off, I got busy researching. I'm reaching out to others that have already been on…

Will I ever feel satisfied?
I've been on this "diabetes ride" since my diagnosis on Apr. 4. I have RADICALLY changed my diet, and upped the exercise. My glucose is pretty much getting under control. Here is my question, "Will I EVER feel satisfied and not deprived?" I'm keeping my calories under my goal, and all that...but I'm hungry ALL the time!…

Is this happening to anyone else?
So the past 2 weeks due to stress and maybe not being strict on watching carbs, I now seem to get neuropathy in my hands and legs. The funny thing is it's now my trigger to know when my sugar is high because then the pain starts. What's strange is it starts happening even when my numbers are not even that high for an…

Cheap meter and strips (UK)
I hope I am not breaking group rules, please delete if I am. I co-own a diabetes forum and we have negotiated a discount on a certain brand of meter. The strips are also about the cheapest in the UK, so it could possibly help some people with testing. The link to our forum is http://www.eattoyourmeter.org/forum/index.html…

Carb binging
From diagnosis I have always been excellent keeping my carbs ultra low (under 25g a day). I have been rewarded with HbA1c results of 4.9 and 5.1. Last week I had a binge day, I didn't set out to binge, I had to go out and was out much longer than I planned and was so hungry my stomach hurt. There is very little low carb so…

Metformin Day 1: Squirts-A-Plenty
Holy cats! A night not to forget. Picked up my prescription around mid-day and took it (850 mg once a day) with dinner. Then, about two hours later, it happened. I picked up some anti-diarrheal at Walgreens, along with a Diet Sprite to help settle things down. I needed some baby wipes too, to help cool the fire, but I was…

No More Metformin for me
Had my 3-month check-up with the endocrinologist today. My A1c has remained at 5.2 (under 5.7 is desirable and "normal") even with a reduction in my Metformin dosage in February. My diabetes is by no means "cured", "reversed" or whatever other term quacks use to sell books, but it is now under "tight control" and I can…

From insulin to Metformin?
Hi all- I am not a very active member of this board, but I am wondering if anyone else has switched from insulin to Metformin. might be TMI but....questions about monthly cycle
Again, this may be TMI so I apologize in advance.... This is my first full month of trying to control my BG's. I thought I was doing well but the last couple of days, the tight control I had been enjoying seems to slowly be taking a downward spiral. I've read that one's cycle can play havoc with blood sugar & I'm wondering…

I used mfp about this time last year and dropped 24 lb. Two weeks ago I was diagnosed with type 2 and a thyroid problem. My doctor prescribed meds and exercise. Low-Carb Bread Machine Recipe
Hi All! I just tried this recipe this evening and it was pretty decent. Pros: It looks and smells like regular bread and only has 6 carbs per slice. Cons: It does have a chewy/spongy texture and is a little on the bland side flavor-wise. I will most likely add herbs and a dash of salt next time I make it.…

Strange BG readings (new test strips)
I have been using a ReliOn meter for a couple of years - haven't tested regularly until recently when I got a high A1C number (7.1). My fasting AM BG was 88-100 usually and I would test through out the day and got numbers that reflected my carb intake. Just got a new batch of test strips. The first fasting AM test on this…

how many carbs per meal/day do YOU eat and stick to?
I have been aiming for 30 and under per meal with a total count of 101 per day. I see a lot and i do mean a LOT of diabetics on here who do like 200 a day. Curious, what do you do?
