  • If you lift weights correctly, you will build muscle. If you are eating at a deficit, the necessary energy comes from your stored fat so your fat stores decrease in size and you will look smaller. Now, if the question is will I look like a bodybuilder, then the answer is probably not until long hours of work after losing…
  • [1.) How many of you had success, at least in the first few months with a calorie only diet? Even though I personally had success I'd love to hear from others who had success with it. 2.) Diet soda, I never drank diet soda when I dieted and I recently found out that's it delicious, at 0 calories it seems perfect. I did…
  • My standard "I don't feel like cooking" standby can be varied almost infinitely. First of all, you need various spices and herbs and seasonings like Mrs. Dash. Add a new one at least once a month until you have a good selection. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with nonstick spray. Put 4 oz of lean chicken,…
  • Crush 1/3 c bran cereal. Add 1/4 tsp each garlic powder, pepper, and paprika. Marinate chicken tenders in buttermilk (or low-fat milk with lemon juice) for 2 hours. Put crushed cereal mix in a baggie, add chicken tenders and shake to coat. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes. (For more than one person, increase recipe.)…
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1 packet Stevia, 1 cup frozen fruit (your choice), a few ice cubes. 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, 1 tablespoon dark cocoa, 1/2 cup plain Green yogurt, 1 packet stevia, 1/2 to 1 frozen banana (broken into chunks), a few ice cubes.
  • I'm 5'8" and I don't think I could get into a size 2 when I was 10 years old! I wore a size 14 at 120 lbs (think Twiggy in a cinch belt) and a size 14 when I was 145 lbs. Believe me, I looked and felt a whole lot better at 145 lbs. You need weight training to bulk up the muscles some and lose the flab, not to lose weight.
  • My Phase 1 was sabotaged by visiting family, so I went directly to Phase 2. I didn't really have cravings so this was no problem. However, I switched to Splenda at the same time. My first lipid test showed fantastic results on triglycerides, but overall cholesterol and LDL were higher. I gradually got off the diet as these…
  • Fasting is actually good for you as long as it doesn't go for more than 2 days in a row. Foodwise, you can get the same benefits of fasting by restricting eating to 600-650 cal (45% carbs, 30% fat, 25% protein). Just make sure your nonfast days contain healthy eating. And drink lots of water on fasting days!
  • I have an egg, 1 slice of 100% whole wheat toast with 1 tsp oleo, 6 oz of tomato juice, and some kind of fruit (grapefruit, raspberries, strawberries, melon) almost every day. I need more protein to make it to lunch.
  • Fruit for dessert. Yasso frozen Greek yogurt bars in chocolate, strawberry, blueberry, mango, raspberry. Dark chocolate. Water.
  • I am on a 5:2 plan. I eat 600-650 cal (45% carb, 25% protein, 30% fat) on 2 days and 1500 cal (50% carb, 25% protein, 25% fat) the other five days. Every day I am supposed to eat 4 servings of non-starchy vegetables, 2 servings of fruit and 2 servings of dairy. The fat, starchy vegetables/grains, and protein servings vary…
  • I don't drink protein shakes, but I tried some recipes that used whey protein powder to add protein to foods that don't normally have much protein. I found Sprout's Farm Market whey protein to be very tasty in such situations.
  • I tried garcinia after a gym acquaintance said her doctor had recommended it and she had lost fat off her middle. It did nothing for me.

  • I am on a 5:2 plan. I have lost 11 pounds, 1-1/2 inches off my belly, and dropped my A1c from 6.7 to 5.9. The fasting days require careful planning, but haven't really been much of a problem. My biggest problem seems to be getting enough of the right kind of food on the other 5 days.
  • There is a Flat Belly Diet by the editors of Prevention magazine that works (at least for some people)--no protein shakes involved. My problem with it was it requires you to eat 4 400-calorie meals/snacks a day, each one containing a MUFA (monounsaturated fatty acid). Too complicated for me.
  • Don't worry about sugars if they are coming from natural sources (fruit, veggies, milk). Only added sugars are important, but how do you track them? Fruit isn't going to hurt you either unless you go over your calorie allowance. The only way to accurately track your potassium on MFP is to make your own food lists with USDA…
  • I got mine at Walmart for about $25. It even gives me body fat and body water percentages. I've had it a year or so, but I had another of the same brand that lasted several years before I decided to update.
  • I have trouble with exercise, too. Yes, I can lose weight just by counting calories, but it's very hard and very slow. Then I found a diet designed for people with blood-sugar problems like me. Now the weight is coming off at a satisfactory rate (1-2 lbs per week) and my blood-sugar problems are getting better, too. Maybe…
  • Theoretically, yes. However, just enjoy the trip. The difference in foods may cause a temporary weight gain primarily due to water retention. It shouldn't last long once you are back to your routine.
  • Well, I suffered for 5-6 years with neuropathy in my feet until a friend suggested it might be aspartame. I didn't believe it because I used so little. However, when I quit as a trial, I started having withdrawal symptoms that were unbelievable! Needless to say, I never used it again. Still have problems with the…
  • Unless you have been put on a low-fat (below 50 g daily) diet, there is nothing wrong with your salad. I agree with adding some flavored vinegar. It will also add health benefits without a lot of calories. Olive oil can be used for cooking, but lower temperatures are better for it. Fish are usually cooked at a fairly low…
  • If I remember correctly, a weight of 164 is a BMI of 25 for 5'8'. You are under that now so you are at a "normal" weight. Why not take a break and maintain for a while--a vacation could work wonders. Continue your exercises. After a time, you could aim for a loss of 0.5 lb a week to lose a little more if you want. You have…
  • If you can eat 1 serving a day and fit them into your calorie goal, then go for it. If having a bag in the house means you will eat the entire thing in a day or two, banish them from the house. You can still have chips when you go to a cookout, say. Just fill your plate with healthy stuff and put a few chips on top--no…
  • If you are talking about those wraps that are supposed to help "burn" fat while you exercise, they are a dangerous fad that only make money for the sellers. I have also heard the process of doing mild exercise (e.g. walking) about 20 minutes after a substantial meal (meaning not just a snack, not a huge meal) referred to…
  • Loosing weight is a journey--not an event. Try to keep your intake to healthy foods the rest of the day and try to do better tomorrow. Taking it one day at a time, doing the best we can, forgiving ourselves when we stumble will get us to the goal eventually.

  • Yoga will also give you a slim toned body. It also have other benefits.
  • Most fruits and vegetables have no fat. And the bulk of 4-500 calories of those should keep you busy for a while. No-fat yogurt, especially frozen, is good and feels like a treat.
  • to rabbitjb: I am trying to provide information for certain people here--those always on the lookout for good recipes that make a single serving. We have reasons for wanting that kind of information. To make comments saying basically that those reasons are ridiculous is rude. I say if an fyi topic doesn't affect you, then…
  • With 13-15% body fat, why are you trying to lose? Are you a professional body builder or something?
