  • Hi I'm Paula, I turned 50 in September and I have decided that I want to be fabulous in my fifties. I'm determined to make some lifestyle changes and really need the motivation of like-minded people to help encourage me and keep me focussed. :)
  • Turns out I haven't been lifting as much as I thought! Having had a discussion with one of the men, the weight displayed is not per side of bar but the total! I've got a long way to go until i'm lifting like Hercules! However, today I upped all my weights considerably. So long as I am improving, I'm happy :)
  • Ok, I have a question. I upped my weights today for my deadlifts. On each side of the bar I had 20kgs (44lbs) but I don't know how much the actual bar weighs. Any ideas - just approximately?
  • Thanks for that! I've just googled it and will keep an eye on that one when training. Talking of box splits, you've just reminded me that when I was a young girl I used to be able to jump into side and box splits! I used to be super-flexible in my gymnastics years. I dread to think what damage I would do attempting that in…
  • Ok, at the risk of sounding stupid, what does PSOAS stand for? It might be an 'across the water' difference in language thing - or just me lol. I love your attitude by the way!
  • Strangely enough, I found the lunges the worst too! Deadlifts make you feel like you are playing with 'the big boys." Had to go over to unchartered waters - the other rack of weights the boys use! How is your muscle soreness?
  • Just completed Workout B1! I really upped the weights today. I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to hate lunges (worst ones for my knee) but I did managed them (just) holding 11lb dumbbells in each hand. I already know I'm going to ache tomorrow. Maybe it wasn't such a great idea doing a pilates class first! My abs…
  • Well, I have just completed my first Workout A1 and I really enjoyed it (once i had located everything at the gym!). I found the push-ups the hardest and just about managed 15 reps at 45-60 degree angle. I'd never done jackknifes before so that was interesting positioning myself on the ball. I'd hardly say I was ladylike…
  • Well, I've read the book, printed off my worksheets, re-capped on the exercises for today so... I better get on with it! Wish me luck on my first session!
  • Thank you for the feedback. It really helps to stay persistent on this journey being inspired by other people's successes. Well done - you look great by the way.
  • Just brilliant! You are such a beautiful girl.
  • Having torn my ligaments in my left knee about 10 weeks ago, I have been gradually building it back up with strength training etc... and I have avoided any high impact exercises since joining the gym. Today, I decided to do a power walk for 2 miles on the treadmill. After the first mile, I was itching to see if I could do…
  • Glad to show I am proud to be a member of this group :)
  • I totally get where you are coming from with the energy levels. I too am a teacher (ten and eleven year-olds) so you do need a lot of energy to keep up with them. There are so many similarities with your story and mine (except that you are half my age!) so thank you so much for posting your progress. This has really…
  • This has been a great help for me so thank you everyone. I am impatiently waiting for my book to arrive so that I can get started on the heavy lifting - although I did up all my weights in the gym today in readiness! I shall definitely take on board this valuable advice to get me started on the right track.
  • This is my second week in too. The scales had frozen. I stepped on the scales this morning and have lost 1 pound after no change for 3 weeks and it's also my TOM! Hopefully, this means that I'm doing something right. I am waiting for my nrolfw to arrive in the post and can't wait to have a good read and get started. May…
  • Absolutely brilliant!
  • I haven't lost a great deal of weight yet (still trying to sort that out as it is a work in progress) but I am losing inches. I really noticed today when I put on a different bra which I hadn't worn for few weeks. I had to do it up on the tightest clip so I definitely know all that lifting has trimmed my upper body. Also,…
  • This sounds like me. The inches are coming off but the scale shows a different number everyday. I need to do something about it. You have inspired me to take the plunge and up my calorie intake. Wish me luck!
  • Hi, I am going to be 47 in September and I am currently weighing 177lbs - (5ft 7in) so in a similar place. Your figures look correct based on your calculations but are you sure you should have set your activity level as sedentary based on your cycling and walking? This is all new to me too as I seem to be losing inches but…
  • A noticeable difference. Well done. Keep up the good work :)
  • I worked out 4 times last week and logged my calories. I lost a pound and felt cheated. However, I got the tape measure out and in two weeks I have lost half an inch off my waist and hips. Have your been doing quite a bit of strength training? This does generate muscle growth and that can affect your weight either staying…
  • I think it depends on your frame size and your age. I calculated my frame size and I am a large frame. I have set mine as 150 but may review. This gives me a healthy BMI. You also need to take into account how your body looks so exercise is key too. Better to have toned muscles and to lose inches than be wobbly and thinner…
  • What a transformation! You look fabulous. Well done. It's these stories that really inspire me. I am just at the start of my journey and can't wait to start seeing the physical results in my shape. After just over a week, I've already got bags more energy. Thanks for keeping me motivated. Feel free to add me as a…
