  • Went to my gym this morning for the first time in 18 months. It was like a ghost town. I was expecting lots of resolutioners. Maybe they don't do 6am workouts???
  • Did you ever find someone to workout with? I'm in Slidell as well. I go to LA Fitness. First day back there after a year and a half but trying to find some local workout buddies to help each other stay accountable.
  • Don't start out too fast. Keep a nice steady pace and you'll finish well. As for time - it all depends on you. What is your personal goal for the half? My first half I just wanted to finish in under 3 hours. Then my next goal was finishing in under 2:30. One of these days I'll get to the point where I want to finish in…
  • I've been eating almond butter since the beginning of June because I am trying the Paleo diet for the month. Peanuts are legumes and therefore not Paleo....so almond butter is the alternative. While it's not my favorite crunchy peanut butter, I don't mind the taste and it's been pretty good on celery or paleo banana…
  • You're not alone!!!! I haven't lost weight in OVER A YEAR!!!! I'm 32, 5'10" and stuck at 220. I count my calories, moderate my carb intake and in addition to running 3-4 times per week I weight train 2-3 times per week. I've taken a metabolic assessment and learned how to do heart rate training, but the scale is…
  • My pic has 3 images (October 2011, October 2012, March 29 2013).
  • I went along with the doctor prescribing me metformin for 10 years to treat hyperinsuliemia and insulin resistance. He never called it diabetes, but let's face it - that's the same medication my diabetic grandmother takes daily. It wasn't until November 2011 when my quarterly routine blood tests (required by my doctor…
  • I started running last year. I used the RunDouble Couch-2-5k phone app. It eases you into being a runner. If your ankle and toe are having regular issues - it could easily be your shoes if you didn't have a pre-existing condition. I had a bad sprain in high school and still roll my right ankle pretty hard, so I went to two…
  • I got a whey protein from my Lifetime Fitness coach since I rarely hit my protein goals with the calorie and fat content going out of range. I don't eat it regularly, though but it's good for after lifting for muscle recovery and to meet daily protein goals.I take 1 scoop with 60 calorie almond milk.
  • I started lifting in January and am getting some callouses too. I've been told to get crossfit gloves to keep the callouses from getting too bad. I've heard horror stories of them getting big or hard enough that they rip off - no one wants that!!! :noway:
  • you're not eating enough. I plateaued forever until I started eating back the calories I burned during exercise. I net 1480 calories per day and if I work out a bunch, my daily calories need to be closer to 2000. It's working - I lost 4lbs in January after being stuck on the scale for months!
  • definite BUMP on this one. So don't want to succumb to chocolate cravings with candy and cookies.
  • I buy Dream Fields pasta (low carb, high fiber and low glycemic). Apart from that, my family really likes Prego, so I get the Heart Healthy Fresh Mushroom kind and just consider spaghetti night a splurge night for me.
  • I just turned 32 in December. Been eating healthy since November 2011, started running in May 2012, and have added a regular weight training regimen to my run schedule since right before the New Year. I'm not always active in the forums, but if you message me with questions or motivation, I reply pretty quickly. I've lost…
  • ^^^^ THIS!!! ^^^^ :grumble:
  • I'm 5'10", 220lb and have been running since May 2012. I started on Couch 2 5k and have worked my way up ot running half marathons. I'm currently in "off season" so running about 2 miles per day on the treadmill (3-4 times per week) and added 45 minutes of strength training to build lean muscle. From everything I've heard,…
  • I've never kept running after the 13.1 to finish a half marathon, but if a bear is still chasing me after 13 miles, I'm pretty sure he'll be too tired to eat anything.
  • Running takes time to master. You're muscles not only need to develop for the total body cardio required during running, but the foot landing is a high impact on your feet, joints, and bones. Start slow. If you have a smart phone try the Couch 2 5k apps to ease you into a running schedule. I started last May and it was…
  • Had to take the leg work easy today since I have a New Year's Day 5k in the morning. Did 25 minutes on the stair machine, 1 hour or strength training on weight machines, then 25 minutes on reclined bicycle.
  • mine are 10 & 12 and are more than mature enough to stay by themselves. the bus drops them off at 3:30 and i don't even get home till about 5:30.
  • I mix up my routine. I do one day at about 4 miles total, with the 1/2 mile warm up walk, then flat out 10:30-11:30/mile pace for 1.5 miles. Then I jog 400m at 12-13 min pace, then spring 400m, alternating for 1.5 miles. Then a 1/2 mile cool down. Day 2 is steady pace for 3-5 miles. Just a pace I can keep for an extended…
  • While my legs haven't ever been "tree trunk" like, there was definitely a lack of lean muscle before I started running in May. I did the couch to 5k and I remember at the start of the program running and feeling down the side of my legs - how there wasn't really any muscle there - it just jiggled. After about two months of…
  • You look great!!! Congrats!
  • 32oz, 200 calorie rib eye would be the perfect food. :drinker:
  • I was honor roll and he was shop and building trades. Nuff said.
  • Orbitz was the only one I remember. I was born in '80 so that put me between 10-15 during the first half of that decade. http://www.lanceandeskimo.com/chefelf/bev_orbitz.shtml

  • Just sent you a friend request. I'm also part of a local group that focuses on just getting off the couch and getting active if you'd like to join. www.teamninja.org Right now, I'm doing the Jingle Bell 5k in Indy next weekend (12/8), the Santa Hustle Half Marathon (12/16) and possibly the Lifetime Fitness…
  • I met one of my MFP pals at a local park half way between our two locations and we spent a day hiking and getting to know each other before running a 5k together. We got along great and I'm so happy she didn't get mad that I pushed her to a PR for the 5k. I'm about 6" taller than her so she naturally has to work harder to…
  • Amazing doesn't begin to describe it! Congrats!!!!!:flowerforyou:
