  • Honestly, that's still not a very healthy attitude to have. You don't need to put in a certain amount of "hard work" in order to "deserve" eating food that you enjoy.
  • That's really not true.
  • Your profile says you have 10 lbs to lose. Is that correct, or is that more of a mini-goal? If you have 10lbs to lose, trying to lose it all in 1 month is a really bad idea.
  • how much are you eating?
  • I don't have one set rest day. I aim to have one day off a week, or at least one day of only gentle exercise, but when it happens (and whether or not I have more) depends on what else is going on, how tired I am on a particular day etc.
  • You don't have to exercise to lose weight. You really don't. What matters is how much energy you're taking in versus how much you're expending, and most of that is determined through diet. Stop forcing yourself to do exercise in order to lose weight, and go back to doing the exercise you enjoy, when you want to do it.
  • Work on your all-or-nothing/black & white thinking. CBT is good for this. There is a lot you can do with CBT out of self-help books. That kind of thinking is very self-destructive and will really get you nowhere; in life generally, but especially with trying to lose weight. Seeing foods as "good" or "bad" or "junk" or…
  • You just started tracking yesterday, Give it some time to decide whether or not you're getting results. Also, 5 lbs (or a little more?) in 5-6 weeks is fine. It's actually ideal. You have results, keep going.
  • I had a lot of success switching to morning exercise. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I started out of necessity in late winter/early spring when a combination of changing jobs, short days and bad weather made it much harder for me to get my run in after work. I started by gradually getting up a bit earlier…
  • It's mostly sugar, so it's going to have a noticeable amount of calories. 68 calories is not a huge amount in a sauce, especially when you are presumably making more than one serving for the recipe? If it's too much of a dent in your calorie intake, then reduce the amount of honey (sounds like quite a sweet sauce, maybe…
  • Yeah, I was going to post a weather/climate analogy. Getting bothered about daily weight fluctuations would be like getting bothered if it rains one day and is sunny the next. Living in the UK, that would be disastrous. I agree with others that have commented that you may need some help with this. Not to be alarmist, but…
  • Yeah, stop the diet and eat some food. Stop doing extreme diets. Just so you know, your celebrity did not lose 4 kg of fat in 4 days. It just doesn't work like that.
  • I don't know the answer to your question, but why do you freak out every Monday if it happens every Monday? You've been at this since 2010? If normal daily weight fluctuations are still freaking you out, maybe you're someone who would just do better not weighing yourself at all, and going my tape measurements. I think…
  • As far as weight loss goes, meal timing/size/frequency is one of those things where you have to find what works best for you. Your post seems to indicate that this is the last thing to try; it isn't. Try six small meals a day and see if it suits you. If it doesn't, try something else. Some people find that 3 square meals a…
  • Yeah, honestly... I can't tell you how many times I've seen people using "but I have a really small frame" to justify under-eating or being under-weight. If the only issue was that you truly had a smaller than average frame and were 100% healthy at the weight you're at, then you wouldn't be struggling so much to maintain.…
  • Don't wait to feel motivated. It's a choice. Do you want the benefits you get from doing it, or not? Do those benefits outweigh the costs? If so, just do it. Like others have said - make it one of those things you just do. Stop giving yourself the opportunity to avoid it. Keep doing it until it becomes a habit, which will…
  • Have you been tracking your intake up to this point? If not, you might find that tracking it here will make a big difference. Try to measure your food as accurately as possible (a food scale really helps) and track everything here. Set MFP up to lose maybe 1.5 lbs a week, and hit your goal for a few weeks. Then you can…

  • Eat back most of them, depending on how you're estimating calorie burn. If you're relying solely on the MFP exercise database, or exercise machines, then just be aware that they may be very inaccurate. Perhaps post here how much you think you're burning and people can advise on whether it seems realistic. You should…
  • Kind of old thread, so this is kind of directed at the OP, but also to anyone else reading/bumping the thread. If you really want to make a "total life change", then you need to learn to manage your weight (whether that means losing, to get to a healthy weight, or maintaining it) by eating normal food and normal meals.…
  • There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, and nothing to be ashamed of. It looks very normal. Some people are naturally pear-shaped, or hour-glass-shaped; some people naturally have big round butts, others have narrow hips and flat butts... human beings come in a vast variety of shapes and proportions. You can do…
  • I think if you can maintain without logging, then find; don't log. You're probably a lot better off not logging if you don't need to do it. Some people need to continue, others don't. I don't see how on earth logging your food intake could slow down your metabolism though. The whole point of logging in maintenance is to…
  • Yes. Don't weigh on carpet. Stick to the same scales, now that you have them. Weigh on a hard, flat surface, at the same time of the day. A lot of people prefer first thing in the morning after using the bathroom and before eating, wearing as little as possible. If you're unsure about the accuracy of the scales, weigh…
  • If you are being absolutely honest and accurate with your weighing/measuring/logging of food, and you haven't lost in several weeks, then I would get to a doctor to check if there's something medical going on. The fact is, if you're truly eating that little and exercising that much, you're putting a hell of a lot of stress…
  • I haven't had anything that blunt, but I have had instructions from various people to please not lose any more weight, and to not let my arms get too big, and "you're not going to look like one of those, are you?", referring to a professional bodybuilder on tv. It's weird how people don't see how inappropriate it is to…
  • Just make it habit. Make it a non-negotiable part of your day. You know, like brushing your teeth, having a shower, going to work. It's just what you do. Don't give yourself the choice. Don't argue with yourself. Just do it. Most days I feel a little pang of "oh, I can't really be bothered" - but I just don't listen to…
  • ^^ haha.. this, kind of, some days anyway. I think this started sinking in someway into the weight loss process. Realising that a lot of insecurities were not really about the weight, and on reaching my goal weight, I still felt insecure and self-conscious about a lot of things. -I'm cold a lot of the time -shaving legs,…
  • I agree with this. I think you just need to try things until you find the most fun thing for you. I can't stand aerobics type exercise videos, so I pretty quickly ruled those out. I did a lot of cycling on a stationary bike, which I found pretty boring, but I watched tv or read a book to keep myself occupied. Then, I…
  • Why assume that someone who has learned to eat all foods in moderation, or advocates eating all foods in moderation, has no experience with compulsive eating or negative body image? There are lots of folks here who have struggled with this stuff, and learned a lot about how to do things differently. Just one little tip:…
  • Focus on yourself; on your own goals and health. 1 lb a week is just about ideal. As you get closer to your goal weight, 0.5 lbs a week will be more realistic. If she is really losing as fast as you (or rather, she) say(s), then she's doing it in a very unhealthy way, is likely losing a fair amount of lean mass and is…
  • Ok, you're already getting some great advice here. I just wanted to say, please don't let embarrassment stop you from getting outside and exercising. You may be a "whopping" 14.5 stone, but when I started exercising outside, I was 15 1/2 stone and 5'3", so a fair bit bigger than you. Yeah, I felt a little embarrassed, but…
