  • Nervous is normal. It is a major surgery. But you've obviously made a well-considered decision about the effects on your health of having the surgery versus not having it. When you get nervous, just remember all those reasons and that you are doing this for long term good health. Best of luck on your upcoming surgery!
  • Opurity (see the unjury.com website) has a WLS surgery optimized one-a-day chewable. I also take calcium and D3 and B12, but have played around with brands on those. Immediately post-op, I used Wellesse liquid vitamins to avoid the whole crushing pills thing…but the taste isn't great and per dose it is more expensive, so I…
  • As you can tell, a lot of different plans out there. Follow the guidelines your doc gave you. That being said, my plan allowed all meat except red meat at your stage, but I found that unless it was shredded or ground, it was too dense to digest easily. And if it was too dry that also caused problems. So I ended up eating…
  • Yep again.

  • Glad to hear everything went well.
  • A little of everything…Consigned; donated to charity; gave to friends/family/wls support group members. I didn't keep any, not even as a reminder.
  • You should talk to a nutritionist if your doc didn't give you a plan. In the meantime, I suggest counting protein.
  • Welcome! The pre and immediate post op diets are usually pretty strict. Once you can expand a little, I recommend investing in a cookbook designed for WLS patients. There are a couple out there. I got one called "Eating well after WLS". It helped with tasty recipes that were on target for WLS nutrient needs and had serving…
  • I'm just outside DC, so not quite close enough to be a workout buddy, but I used to live in Harrisburg. Lots of pretty places to take walks along the river/city island. Also, there is an excellent women's gym in Mechanicsburg (if you are really on that side of the river) called Momentum.
  • Congrats on taking the first step! I had RNY 18 months ago. Feel free to add me as a friend.

  • Vitamin C will help iron absorption. Take iron + vitamin C at same time but separate from other vitamins. Oddly I was anemic before surgery and had to take prescription doses of iron, but since surgery have not had any iron deficiency. Don't even take iron as a supplement at all now. Spinach, raw or cooked, is one of my…
  • Is it possible to be ultra healthy & smoke pot? :p
  • Congrats! Hope your surgery went well and recovery is going better! My recovery was also pretty easy. My best advice is to walk as much as possible. Liquid vitamins were my friend the first month as was GasX dissolvable strips.
  • Not absurd at all. I often felt judged before, whether I was or not I still don't know. I only told a few close family and friends until a couple weeks before surgery. After that I was pretty open about it. I'm happy to tell people about my WLS, but I didn't want people second guessing my decision either, so for me waiting…
  • congrats! Relax (if possible). Drink water right up until your fluid intake cutoff time. Take a book/tablet/e-reader with you along with basic toiletries and comfy post surgery clothes (non-binding around middle). Walk as much as possible post-surgery (when not sleeping). Check back in and let us know how it went.
  • I didn't tell people until right before my surgery because I'd heard negative comments in passing over the years about others. However, after surgery, I told anyone who asked about my weight loss--both the surgery and that it isn't a quick fix. Happily, I have a very supportive circle of family, friends, and co-workers and…
  • Guess I need to start saving a bit more. I'm definitely thinking of the tummy tuck, but I haven't had infections, so I don't think insurance will cover. My thighs are my vain point and so I want to get those done too. I want to be able to wear shorts in the summer without feeling like everyone's looking at my saggy…
  • It's gotta be more than 160 pounds of pressure…Don't know the ratio for hips, but for knees it's 1 pound weight to 4 pounds pressure, so that is 640 pounds pressure off your knees! :D Congrats! Looking great!
  • MFP is not personal to your situation and isn't designed for WLS patients so while its still a great tracking tool, its advice is not going to account for your situation. You should probably consult a nutritionist to get back on track with what is right for you at this point in time. My WLS doc has nuts on staff, but if…
  • Quest bars currently on sale at Vitamin Shoppe
  • Eating out is as much about being social as having a meal, so I order what I want, but box up what's left when I get full. I'll also often ask if there are smaller portions available. A lot of people have eating issues/habits not related to WLS so most of the time I don't get any comments on my particular habits.
  • I also did not have health issues do to being obese, but my Primary care doc wrote a letter about why they recommended me for the surgery due to the risk of developing issues based on my obesity, which was included in the package submitted to insurance by the WLS doc.
  • I don't have the throwing up so much, but I did overeat exactly once over Christmas and got such a bad stomachache I was extremely careful the rest of the holiday. I'm a year and a half out and hope this side effect doesn't go away. I like having a built in warning system/reality check.
  • Ditto what everyone else has already said! Best of luck to you!
  • I was also told to focus on getting in the protein. I also try to avoid high sugar foods and that seems to work pretty well.
  • Awesome game!
  • I hate going to the gym in the morning too, but I find I am more consistent about it than trying to go later. Apparently my slacker arguments are still asleep at 5 am. As far as the water goes, change it up with some flavors once in a while. I like True Lemon, which is basically crystallized lemon juice, but there is a…
  • I'd check in with your doc. Get your vitamin levels checked, but also an overall wellness check. If you've had allergy like symptoms, perhaps you have been fighting a virus or something. I always get super-tired when I'm sick.
  • I tried pre-buying a few things, but it only worked so-so. I found I didn't always lose proportionally, so I might fit into something, but it wouldn't fit well. So unless it was under $5, I stopped pre-buying. Instead, I was more like pawoodhull, buying tight and then waiting until loose to buy again. To help with expense,…
