  • So, silly question perhaps, but how is it that the elliptical burns more cal than running on a treadmill? Seems like it is often less work (or that is my vague perception...)
  • I have found that being aware of stress as a trigger to mindless consumption is huge for me. Knowing I do it, I can try to keep an eye out and find something else to do when I get to that point. Yoga sometimes helps de-stress, because I also know that when I do the stress eating, I end up being really pissed at myself for…
  • Love fungi....
  • I feel like anything I can say to this could be met with 'Pot, this is kettle...' But to quote one of my dearest friends 'You are not your weight.' And while he is correct, I find myself identifying myself with that number far too often. It can be a useful tool to motivate oneself, just...well I continually tell myself…
  • I have had them in a few products... Dovedale (a NZ bread company) makes a chia rice bread that is the tastiest me-safe bread I have EVER had. Pretty sure the chia is what gave it that nice texture (I find straight rice bread to be akin to eating cardboard...) In the US, GT's Kombucha (and several others companies) are…
  • Question for the OP (or anyone else who might know) are there other medically measurable indicators of 'starvation mode'/'conservation mode'/whatever the heck you want to call it? I ask as it seems I have always had a fairly low RHR, have had EKG's done at a couple points...would there be any indication beyond simply 'You…
  • Ok, first my disclaimer: I am not a professional in this field and generally claim to know nothing about anything. I would tend to say it is not a big deal so long as you are eating a well-rounded diet. I was talking about protein with a friend of mine, who is a registered nurse, and he was saying that for me (5'6" female)…
  • Awesome! Thank you! Having done Bikram Yoga makes this even more amusing.
  • Admittedly my food diary is not stellar, but you are welcome to peruse... there have been good days, and terrible days...I am working on simply being honest about it every day. (This week is weird as I am on a more restrictive food list than usual.) I am a wee bit shorter than you, and have some food allergies, but I love…
  • If it helps: The theory behind it is kind of as follows (to the best of my non-professional opinion...) You need roughly 1200 calories a day just to survive - basic body functions: breathing, heartbeat, brain function, some vague moving around...kind of a baseline for the body. MFP allows you to calculate your caloric burn…
  • re: Linksy Yogurt is an awesome breakfast! With fruit or granola or anything else you can think of, it is my breakfast standby for much of the year! I could probably dig on salad for breakfast...in fact I know I have in the past! It is not so bad. ^_^
  • Today was not the best - ran out of time for the hoped for Yoga session this evening - got some abs and light cardio work in this morning, eating properly... now if the evening paperwork project won't dissolve into stress eating. KEEP AT IT!
  • New York City Ballet Workout, Ab Ripper X, and (hopefully!) some yoga or a swim.
  • As someone who travels a lot, and has various food issues, a couple thoughts - search for a grocery store near the hotel (often they are around) they often have pre-made salads and whatnot, and if not, a bag of lettuce and some accoutrements can be quite tasty. Celery and hummus is another favorite of mine - or carrots as…
  • <HUG> Some days I wish they would size women's pants like mens - just give me the darn measurements please! You can do this, and as others have said...jeans shopping often sucks. Be strong!
  • Nuts and seeds have some pretty decent protein profiles, though they are often calorically dense foods. If you really don't want to do the eggs or dairy and you have already dropped meat, keep an eye on it, it may be that a protein powder is the way to go to keep you at a reasonable level. I know it is what you don't want,…
  • As I find myself slipping down that 'eating more than I need/ought/etc' slope, I would be delighted to join you all if you don't mind! Perhaps an initial weighing/measuring of self to get a good 'started from' point in your own mind? Sincerely, Kick-me-in-the-pants McSlackerson
  • Hi there Sunshine! Unfortunately there are few hard and fast rules that work for everyone, the same way, all the time. One such mantra is, of course: 'Eat less, move more.' Having pulled out my favorite little blurb, I will endeavor to let it go and move on. Being into the last 10ish pounds is the hard place. This is where…
  • Well done! I applaud your achievements! (Even if I am a bit envious of your RHR...that ROCKS!) Kudos! ^_^
  • The skin is a somewhat resilient material and may come back a bit, but...no promises there. Push ups and similar chest exercises will help tone the muscle that is beneath them, but as the breasts themselves are not muscle, there is no 'boob toning' really. (Except a wickedly good bra! Yar!)
  • Fall rain means a fire, a book and a mug of tea. Or going outside to do chores then the above. Or installing ceiling fans... We got options! ...or tomorrow it may mean some time on a treadmill with some rockin' tunes.

  • I really dig Rodney Yee's 'Power Yoga Total Body'. -It is about the right level for me -Length is about 60 minutes without the intro -His voice is really...soothing I guess - I find it to not irritate or irk me, even if I am doing this regularly. -Shot in Hawaii, the backdrop is GORGEOUS! -And I like the progression from…
  • Hi there! Welcome to MFP, it is a fabulous place to be, and the people are generally lovely. ^_^ I will readily admit that I have no formal training and often may not know what I am talking about, (I try to be good about pointing that out...) but I can try to help if you like? People have often said the last ten are hard,…
  • Firstly, breathe. ^_^ I know that when I am hungry (and I can only imagine being ravenous after a trek like that!) I tend to be rather...sensitive, shall we say, to ANYTHING other people say to me that even hints of judgement or reprisal. Now, I am not suggesting you are nearly s crazy as I can be when not fed properly,…
  • <HUG> I am proud of you! As someone who has the moments of 'Eh, I'll just...' It is important to find that perspective. You found it, and you went with it. Well done! And I bet your breakfast tasted good anyway, no? ^_^
  • Though not really a protein shake, I found that NOW Foods has a yellow pea protein powder that mixes fairly well with just about anything, does not have a really obvious taste of it's own and has no added anything - a huge bonus for the food allergic me. IF you don't like the shake options you have found, perhaps a…
  • I appreciate the input! My general rule of weight loss/fitness continues to be 'Eat less, move more.' Simple, straightforward, workable. It seemed like an interesting premise but the lack of real data was quite troublesome. (And the required giving up of certain vegetables...avocados?!) ^_^ Thanking you all again! MR
  • Our preferred way growing up was to rinse them off, spread 'em out on a cookie sheet with some salt tossed on them (to taste or not at all if you prefer) then set the whole thin on top of the woodburning stove. Flip them over when they start looking toasty and go from there. (Highly unscientific, but yummy!)
  • Re: Message to nickfrench... If you click on a person's username it will take you to their profile, and give you a 'send message' button if you are trying to respond to just one individual and not on the thread. ^_^
  • I totally understand the 'everything in moderation' idea in my head, but frankly, I came to realize there are some things that I just had to give up altogether. Logically knowing that moderation is key, is not the same as taking my hand out of the HUGE bag of roasted nuts, or stopping after a few pieces of cheese covered…
