  • As a fellow fine/thin haired curly girl, I feel your pain! I try to only shampoo my hair a couple times a week, too. For the rest of my showers, I get my hair wet, then put a little bit of conditioner in my hands and then really massage it through my hair and rinse it to get the salt and god-knows-what-else out. Then I…
  • I am training for my 4th Half Marathon, I definitely agree that you should be eating back your exercise calories. Make sure those calories come from high quality grains and carbs, as those are essential to having fuel for your run. Also, it really doesn't matter how fast or slow you run your mile, you burn about the same…
  • Nope! Agree with the above poster's doctor. There really isn't enough running in the beginning/mid part of the program to burn enough calories to lose weight. But now that I am able to run (thanks to C25K) and am training for a half marathon, I am burning 700 - 1,4000 calories on my long runs!
  • I just swipe deodorant on my thighs before going on a run! Bodyglide is also pretty awesome.
  • Sorry that this isn't really relevant to the post, but I love how this site thinks D!ck's Sporting Goods needs to be censored! You really can't go wrong with Polar heart rate monitors. The more bells and whistles you want, the more you'll pay. Mine is super basic and still chugging after 2 years...
  • GET PROPERLY FITTED FOR SHOES. There that is all. :) But seriously, I used to have absolutely terrible runner's knee, and then once I went to an actual running store (not some big box store like Sport's Authority or D!ck's) and got properly fit for a nice pair of shoes, it went away and has not been back since. They will…
  • I was able to successfully complete the 20 min run with no problems (and no running experience before doing C25K). Just go slow, and you will be fine! I followed the program, ran a 5k race on my last day (Nov 5th), have run several races since, and am now training for a half marathon! I would recommend following the…
  • Bump?
  • Well, I can't stand the treadmill. Doesn't matter if I'm watching TV or listening to music, I just can't do it! So I have no help for you there. If I'm running outside I go into my zone and sometimes actually lose track of time! I love to go running at dusk/night on the paved trail (no cars!) and just think about life.…
  • Haha... NICE!
  • Hi! I grew up in Louisville! Are you a Louisville native?
  • Endurance first. Speed will come with time. Once you have endurance, then you can start doing fartleks and speed workouts. I highly suggest C25K!
  • I started on week 3 since I was already in pretty good shape, and I graduated C25K about a month ago. I've done a 5k and a 4 mile race since then, and had excellent results! I didn't injure myself, and I don't see any problem with skipping the first few weeks if you're already at that fitness level. The really short…
  • I've never been pregnant, and I had the Paragaurd (like the Mirena, except copper instead of hormones) inserted almost two years ago, and I suffered through the worst pain I've ever felt in my life! It would feel like someone was stabbing me in my right side, and I could barely function during TOM. It really affected my…
  • I'm planning to run the Dublin Snowflake on Dec 11th. And since it's the Midwest, I'll just have to hope there's not a foot of snow on the ground that day!
  • Oh gosh, me too! I learned about it in anatomy (though I've pretty much forgotten everything...) and I think it's something about your muscle fibers continuing to contract even though your brain has stopped sending signals. It is a weird twitching feeling though! I always get it in my thighs!
  • Hi! I'm from Columbus too! On the East side around the Whitehall/Bexley area!
  • That happened to me one time during a hair "experiment." I flipped my head upside down and brushed my hair towards the floor against it's natural direction like I had seen some other girls in high school do. My scalp freaked out and it hurt like you know what for several days. I couldn't even wear my helmet for riding,…
  • Just keep in mind that the more you weigh, the more calories you're burning just by staying alive, much less walking. The doctor character told that heaviest guy there that he would have to consume 5,000 just to MAINTAIN his weight! If a fat and a thin person did the same workout, same intensity, etc., the heavier person…
  • Haha... that gave me a much needed laugh!!!
  • IMO, it's not so much about your initial athletic ability as it is your willpower or motivation. You can always modify the moves, but getting the energy and motivation and finding the time to actually put the DVD in... that's the hardest part!
  • Thanks for the help guys! I hope this goes away soon!
  • Welcome! I'm getting married in July 2011. :) Panera is generally pretty high in calories (over 1000 calories per sandwich) but you might be able to find something lower in calories if you look on their website!
  • What an amazing transformation!!! Your haircut is super cute BTW... :flowerforyou:
  • Just finished the Shoulders/Arms and ARX... I'm afraid I slacked on the ARX. Made it about 2/3 of the way through and then had to stop because my abs were just burning so bad! Oh well... next time I'll kill it! And I'm definitely going to steal my brother's weights when I visit KY this Wednesday. (He's away at college, so…
  • It's disheartening, I know.. But you can always go into your settings on MFP and change your starting weight to 165, and then change your current weight to 153. Just try and take a deep breath and go ahead and do it. In a couple weeks you'll have forgotten about it and won't need to keep track of pluses of minuses.…
  • Congratulations! The last half is always the hardest, so stick in there!!!!!
  • Ok, so I'm a bit behind... but I just found this thread, and I only have 5 pounds left to get to my goal. And I swear these last five are the hardest pounds to lose!!! I'm kicking up the intensity of my workouts in hopes that that'll work... I love seeing that I'm in 155, but come on, I want 150! start weight: 155.5 12/15…
