  • There are tons of web sites with gluten free recipes! Start surfing the net and find some that share your taste in food and time needs. One suggestion I have is to eat whole foods that are naturally gluten free; they are better for you than the processed foods and easier on your wallet. Sweet potatoes, brown/wild rice,…
  • So glad I found the group :) So many Jewish holidays have associated foods (I think hamentashen are responsible for about 3 pounds this year); I would love to see some talk on topics that take the focus off the traditional foods. New and different ways to celebrate.
  • Oh yes, and it is not a fun diet! Be good to yourself in a way that reduces stress and tension - walking someplace beautiful, listening to music, getting a massage, etc. I'm wishing you good thoughts and strength through this time.
  • Maybe try to make each meal/snack contain a little protein and fat with the carbs to slow absorption and keep you full longer. Look for high fiber carbs as well.
  • I had my fun size snickers - figured I walked it off with trick or treating! Boy, was it yummy.
  • I am celiac and lactose intolerant and my daughter is allergic to dairy, peanuts, corn, and soy. Cooking in my house can be a challenge! The positive is that we don't eat out much and have given up a lot of processed foods. The negative is that it does take more planning and time to cook. Meals tend to be fairly simple -…
  • I'm also a lifetime WW member - I rejoined last year and couldn't get into the newer system and the leader offered helpful information but in a way that made me feel like a 1st grader. When I log on MFP I do really well. Now that the food is better (lost 16 pounds) I need to get the exercise piece of the puzzle in there.…
  • Veggies and fruit have carbs, but the body needs carbs. Maybe try replacing refined carbohydrates (like rice, white bread, snack crackers, etc.) with a cleaner version (like quinoa, 100% whole wheat, brown rice) and transition to smaller portion sizes while increasing your veggies and leafy greens and whole fruits. Pairing…

  • Glad you are back - sometimes when life throws a lot of challenges our way it is important to let go of some things for a little bit.
  • I'm 5'3".... This is a great community, so glad you are here!
  • You live a real life, get your protein from real whole foods. Protein powders are a way for people to market and make money.
  • Slightly off topic, but if you are drinking that much coffee and breastfeeding it could be causing the baby to be up more at night.

  • That absolutely sucks and you have my prayers too. Congress needs to not draw their own paychecks.
  • Audiologist for early intervention program. Although I completed training recently at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and am a certified health coach. If I want to make the career change I need to get off my excess weight; seriously, would you take advice from a fat health coach? :)
  • I really like sweet things - fresh seasonal fruits are great
  • please don't use this. It is not safe.
  • I use stevia - but in moderation. It can have a funky aftertaste so I tend to pair it with things that are more strong in flavor. I agree with not using any artificial sweeteners as there are so many problems associated with them and they haven't been show to aid weight loss. Instead, think of the stevia as a step to get…
  • I like that magazine too. Tosca Reno has a few cookbooks out and I've made some recipes or been inspired by some recipes she has in there. Some healthy foods are luckily cheap: dried beans rice (love black rice - have you tried it???) in season produce or frozen veggies freebies from my garden - growing from seed is super…
  • Hi Jen, It seems like you have a lot going on and no time to prep! I try to prep a lot of things during the weekend and stick with simple meals, and love using the slow cooker to have something easy ready at the end of the day. To fill in you may want to stock up on some healthy convenience foods - like Amy's entrees or…
  • Feel free to add me too. Lots of good support, which helps with accountability. It is a really nice community.
  • Re: sushi - there is a great vegan cookbook by Tal Ronnen that has a quinoa sushi roll. Also a more composed dish with quinoa layered with roasted sweet potatoes, avocado and a tomatillo vinaigrette. I usually chop up all different veggies, toss with cooked quinoa, and make a simple vinaigrette for it. Lovely, refreshing…
  • You can control what you put in your mouth and not what happens with your mother - maybe that is why it is bothering you? Stop focusing on the food and just be there for her, no matter what that means to you. Please do not beat yourself up over what you eat at this time because it is just not important.
  • Welcome - I am so impressed with what you have done. This is a supportive site and I bet you will find others with similar journeys to share and support.
  • I do have autoimmune disease - and yes, my body does tell me when I've been "bad". Migraines, joint pain, stomach pain, etc. And yes, sometimes I cheat and pay for it but the longer I coexist with my condition the less I cheat (unless by accident - gluten is so hard to avoid when eating out). For me it is usually nostalgia…
  • Tinkiyada pasta is pretty good; have you tried FARMO from Italy? It is made from corn and rice and stands up better than tinkiyada in a baked ziti or pasta salad.
  • A lot are crap. I like Udi brand, but it needs to be toasted. I also have a bread machine and a GF bread book; some artisan oatmeal breads have come out well. Sorry to say that you will NOT find a GF bread that tastes like the real thing. I've been GF for 5 years and can let you know what brands of certain products I've…
  • I've noticed a big difference since I started tracking, and I was of the opinion that I ate so healthy - and I did, but too many calories! You may find that it just makes you more mindful and that is all it takes since it looks like you are doing great with exercise.
  • Wonder if your tummy is reacting to a quick increase in fiber?
  • Yes, I plan my day the night before and then adjust as necessary. I'm also finding that if I have a little protein in my snacks that they hold me longer - like carrots and 2T hummus or an apple with 1T peanut butter. Plus I'm trying to fill my meals with really low calorie veggies so I feel like I'm really eating a big…
  • I really like it - and would love to go to Hilton head health for 6 months :) Too bad I have to work every day. I like that they get them started but then send them back home and continue to work with them. It would be great to get long term updates about the people they feature.
