  • My mother passed away on Mother's Day and had diabetes. I don't know if she was in denial or just gave up. She had so many complications and took over 13 medications a day (some pills were more than once a day). Don't be in denial. My mom was only 66 when she died. I think if her fasting bs was at 350 and she was in…
  • Thanks for all your tips and responses. I thought maybe it was something new for me and I was just weird. LOL
  • I like crystal lite mixes but since it has the fake sugar in it, I don't drink them very often. Right now I have some brewed unsweetened ice tea (tea from a tea shop) that is very flavorful. I drink it unsweetened and since it has some flavor I don't miss the sugar.
  • I wasn't thinking more for sodas but more for sweetening my baked goods and things like that. http://www.commonsensehome.com/stevia-grow-your-own-sweetener that above is one link I found. When I did a google search on how to make extract from a stevia plant all kinds of things came up. Even youtube videos. I like…
  • I also found a site where it gave instructions on how to make an extract from the plant. I am going to try that as well.
  • Please don't think I didn't take this seriously or didn't think everyone was giving me sound advice. Had my toe still been at the stage it was at when I started this post, I would not have cancelled my appointment. I only cancelled because it was healing. In fact today I took a nice long look at it and it is almost…
  • Thanks for thinking of me everyone. Against everyone's advice, I cancelled my appointment. My toe is healing nicely and and it doesn't hurt anymore. It is no longer red and irritated. I also went out to my running store and bought a new pair of sneakers which has helped too. When I went to the running store, I figured on a…
  • Sounds interesting. I saw an ad on my facebook page today for Paleo bread. It had very low carbs but it was $8.00 for 16 slices! Who is that crazy?!?!?! I may have to give this a try.
  • I think my toe my have had a blood blister. After the sore spot broke open and I was able to get some blood out of it, it actually feels better. It is starting to scab over and it doesn't hurt as much. I have an appointment on Monday with my quacky podiatrist but I am thinking about cancelling it since my toe seems to be…
  • My feet are always cold and generally so are my hands, even in 70 degree weather. I am still in long sleeves and long pants with those temps. LOL
  • I am surprised your doctor didn't talk about putting you on a cholesterol medication. On my last visit my doctor said my vitamin D was low and to take a supplement. My bad cholesterol was 154 and they put me on a statin. I have a follow up appt in April so hopefully my number is down. My other #s were pretty good and I…
  • I eat a whole grain wrap that is really tasty. Brand name is Tumaro. It has 11 carbs, 6 proteins and 7 gram of fiber. It is a bit more pricey but since I am the only one who eats them I can make them last a while.
  • I put a tbsp in my egg mixture every morning. Is it helping? I have no idea but I am going to keep using it until something tells me it is not working.

  • Because an A1C of 6 means that your average BG over the past 3 months has been at 136. By endocronologist standards this is to a bit high but by PCPs it is ok because it is under 7. I am not on any meds at the moment except for high cholestorl. My LDLs have been at a constant at 154 for the past 2 check ups. My…
  • I currently have a problem with one of my toes that has been going on for quite sometime. When I had my annual physcial a couple of weeks ago, my doctor suggested that it might be infected. I am goin to see the podiatrist on Wednesday so hopefully I can get this sorted out because my toe really hurts!
  • It is probably Dawn Phenom, but I have back problems and if I have a bad night's sleep or wake up with back pain, my numbers are usually high. I hope you figure it out!
  • Mary, since you have been a diabetic for 5 years, have you gone to see a nutritionist? When I was diagnosed last year, my doctor sent me to a specific diabetes class. I found it helpful. In fact, I think in a few months I will get a notice for the 1 year anniversary class. As everyone else has said, eat to your…
  • I am so glad doctors like to tell jokes.   When I was diagnosed, I weighed 149 and lost 25 lbs and I still have diabetes. Whenever I tell new healthcare providers that I have diabetes their response is always "You don't fit the general profile of someone who would have diabetes" I guess the perception…
  • If you go on their website and sign up you can get a $1.00 off a box coupon. I tried it but it spiked me like regular pasta. I eat it very sparingly. Just earlier this week though, I made a chicken broccoli alfredo dish but used spaghetti squash instead of pasta. Tasted much better and I didn't spike. :)
  • Well done Jacqui!
  • Hi Chuck. Glad you found us. First, it sounds like you are not eating enough calories as a whole. Did you put your information into the calculators to see where you should be? Are you keeping track of your food? If you are, your diary is private so I can't see it. Walking is great exercise. I do it almost every day. I have…
  • I just use the refillable filter in my machine. Right now I am drinking pumkin spice coffee. One of my favorites next to blueberry. This way I can always switch it up and do different flavors. My grocery store sells one pot bags of flavored coffee and if I put that in my filter, I can get almost 5 cups out of it. Very…
  • I went to the doctor and he said I had a sinus infection even though only on side of the head hurt. He says it can happen. Got some antibiotics and hopefully I will feel better in a few days. I asked him about the events on Saturday and he said that the alcohol (even though it was a couple of hours later, being diabetic,…
  • Going to the doctor this afternoon for my throat issues (sore since last week and only getting worse) and I am going to ask him about the episode that happened on Saturday.
  • I am not sure. I know a few diabetics who see their doctor every three month due their condition. I don't know whether it is controlled or not. I also know someone on medication that has an A1C of 6.4 and his doctor told him that he wants to see him at 6 before he takes him off his medication. Is my doctor ok with it being…
  • You're right Travis. I think I became dismissive because I was sticking to my diet and everything being status quo. It also does not help that my husband keeps saying it won't kill you if you have a little of this and a little of that. I guess I started believing him and had a little of this and little of that too much. I…
  • Right now I use the Freestyle meter and the strips that come with it so I am guessing they are coded to the right meter. I used to test in the am and after every meal but my readings were consistant enough (my breakfast is the same every day and lunch is usually a left over from the previous night) that I only test when I…
  • Sugar is generally added to spaghetti sauce to cut back the acidity of the tomatoes. I bought some bran cereal and tasted and thought "Man this is really sweet for a healthy cereal". After looking at the box, I realized it had fake sweetner in it. Darn!
  • Sorry Bev, I have no help for you. My doctor has said the same thing as yours. As long is my A1C is below 7 he is happy. That doesn't make me happy but I don't have an appointment until October for a new test so we have to wait to see if has come down. My last test was a 7.5 but that was only 6 weeks after being diagnosed…
