  • I love gumbo and have been thinking about making some, but how do you get around the roux part?? Maybe it it's enough servings the flour won't matter?? Other than that, I think it'll be OK carbwise. I DO like a LOT of okra, though...! And it'll be sad to eat without the cornbread. :(
  • What are you eating? Usually sodium is pretty low on Atkins...
  • THANK YOU so much for the idea...I've had pork rinds in the cabinet for 2 months now and never touched them. I tried that vinegar today and it was DELISH. I have my new 'chips' now and a vehicle for...well... anything!! Tuna salad, egg salad, sour cream dip...
  • La negra tiene tambao by Celia Cruz. cool question!
  • I've repeatedly made the low carb cauliflower pizza crust with pepperoni, red onion and mushroom and it's TO DIE FOR. If you have not tried it. Do. It. Now. My kids don't even want regular pizza anymore- they love the cauliflower version. I've also fallen in love with making pizza inside a portabello mushroom. DELISH! and…
  • Are you exercising more?? Sometimes that can cause a food demand. I usually eat more and feel hungrier when it's cool out vs. summertime. I'm curious to see how much of that applies in a low carb lifestyle, since most of the 'more' I ate before was carb heavy!!
  • It's chilly here in ohio and I found this amazing hot chocolate recipe online! It satisfied every craving I had: for warmth, chocolate, sweetness and filled my belly! 2/3 cup water 1/3 cup heavy cream Cinnamon to taste 1/8 tsp vanilla 2 packs splenda 1 tablespoon cocoa powder Mix it all and heat! Soo good!
  • Too funny!! He does make the paranoia in me arise; I refuse to watch him. If I took his advice I wouldn't eat ANYtHING- I wonder if water is safe to drink...? I remember he said once that extreme sunlight sensitivity (with your eyes) was caused by sugar crystals in them and you ate too much sugar. That was the LAST episode…
  • Ketosis=Vivid dreams?? Have any of you noticed anything weird about your dreams when you're in ketosis? I am the type to never remember my dreams, but after my bday bash I went back on strict induction and sure enough have been having VERY vivid/ sometimes disturbing dreams to the point where when I wake up I think, "Did…
  • I don't think that's what she said. I think she said, "with carbs from plant material alone"...which sounds good to me.
  • For additional support (and a LOT of wise advice) I like the Atkins Diet bulletin board site...these people are commando Atkins followers!!! They will give you advice and pull no punches if you aren't toeing the line in this WOE!!! Just google it!
  • Went to the fair last night and had fried cheese curds and a custard turtle sundae. I'm owning it!! The first five curds were deeeelicious. The rest?? I could've thrown away, but I paid six bucks for them!! The sundae was heaven. I did notice that I started to sweat profusely with the cheese curds...I actually sat down a…
  • Did you read an Atkins book to make sure you're doing it correctly?? I ask because one of the symptoms of low sodium is dizziness. Dr. Atkins recommended drinking broth twice a day to alleviate that. Few people do it. It's weird that our way of eating is low in sodium even with all the meat, but there you go. The book…
  • Mine do that too, when I run. It makes it hard to even make a fist! It freaked me out til I asked my high schooler (a distance runner) about it. It said yeah they swell!! That's why I leave my class ring off when I run!! Well excuuuuuuuuuuuse me!
  • Eek! By margarine (in your MIM) I hope you mean butter.... Sweet treat: Try a packet of splenda, a tbs. of baking cocoa and 3 tbs of whipping cream. Whip til like pudding. YUM. The best chocolatey-ist mousse ever. And totally legal. Yes, chocolatey-ist is not a word, but taste one spoonful and you'll agree!!
  • Al-right!!! Yes, part 2!! I agree, get the book. I like DANDR 2002...it's Dr. Atkins last one. If you are in a pinch and can't grab one quickly enough or get one from the library check out the atkins bulletin board forum (google it) . There are stickies that tell you pretty much everything.
  • I HATE drinking water. No matter how hard I try I have to CHOKE it down without mio or crystal light. BUT I love Aquafina!!! It's the taste I love, I have no idea what it is....the bottles are super thin and we recycle. ... I also like Dasani. It has a smooth mouth feel and nice flavor but Aquafina's my fave.
  • I feel bad for you- that's gotta make following low carb a little harder, but honestly, I'd focus on chicken, turkey and seafood. How about veal or lamb?? There's plenty of protein in all of those options, ...and you can add bacon for flavor!! I just hate to think of you suffering after eating a meal- that's what this way…
  • I would get DANDR 2002-it's the last edition before he died, and I like to read about the diet from the horse's mouth...
  • It's working for me!! I love it. All my 'drama' over food is gone. Find some meat/eggs/cheese, pair it with veggies and I'm done. Cravings left after the first week and I have a MAJOR sweet tooth. To be able to eat good, rich , satisfying food and STILL See the scale go down is awesome. I wouldn't trade that for anything!
  • First of all, congratulations on your weight loss!! Secondly, the closer you get to goal, the slower your weight loss usually is...how long have you had 'no weight loss'? Since you are bound and determined NOT to gain before your wedding I would: drop my carbs by 5 grams a day and see what happens at the end of the week-…
  • I have a Tanita that I love- can't remember how old it is. I went to Bed Bath and Beyond (with my coupon, too!) this spring and got the WW scale that tells you waer weight, bone mass, etc. Weird thing is the Tanita tells me my weight and bodyfat with what I assume is amazing accuracy, but the WW scale for some reason…
  • Just wanted to share: I hadn't lost an ounce since August 5th and was REALLY Getting frustrated...I am in OWL and was going through the rungs (veggie, dairy, nuts ) and was ready to start berries yesterday when I posed a question about my LACK of weight loss on the Atkins BB. Lo and behold I was doing OWL incorrectly!!…
  • Hello! I know this is the 2nd time you've asked us this question; I was hoping someone else lactose intolerant would have a solution, but I did some looking on the internet and I found a link to someone that uses coconut milk as a replacement:…
  • I've seen a couple of places where they say chocolate milk(!) is excellent for doing just that!! Who knew?! I'd been buying Powerade and GAtorade for my boys all these years...
  • Not trying to harp on the subject, but all the advice we're giving is already in the Atkins book....OWL is when you slowly add carbs back on in 5 gram increments...(more veggies, dairy, nuts and seeds, berries, alcohol, whole grains, etc) In premaintenance (I'm not there yet!) I believe you add them in 10 gram…
  • Atkins is a lifestyle choice, not something you "go off". You either 'graduate' to Ongoing Weightloss or Maintenance. Grab the book or check the website, and see what fits your situation. If you just 'go off' and eat unlimited carbs, you WILL gain the weight back, definitely.
  • Go to the library and check out any of Dana Carpender's books. She does an awesome job with low carb recipes! Also check outh the blog the lighter side...if I think of more I'll PM you.
  • DEFINITELY get the book. There's so much info in it...it will save you time when all you have to do is grab it and look...besides, you KNOW how things can get confusing when you hear it secondhand. It's a good reference tool... as far as the carb smart ice cream goes, Dr. Atkins really pushes eating whole, real foods. I…
