Worked out I've been having about 40grams, not 20 at least I know when I want to maintain that 40grams is fine lol0 -

I don't get it why in the induction stage, you can have 2 cups of jicama but only 1 cup of cabbage when jicama net carbs is more than cabbage.0

apparently in the US carb counts on packaging are Carbs+Fibre, so in order to just count carbs you have to take out the fibre. In the UK Carbs are only carbs. Hi everyone! I'm new to the Atkins thing too. So far though, it is the only thing that has ever helped me lose the weight.! I feel better than I ever have. You guys are all giving me great recipe and food ideas.

I checked this magazine out from the library, because I wanted to read this article: Time, Sept. 12, 2011, "The Oz Diet". I wanted to see what he's spouting now, and am pleased that he is actually encouraging eggs, fat, and nuts. He seems to understand that fats like olive oil and omega-3's are good for us. But, he still touts that animal fats and cholestrol (from egg yolks, meats and dairy products) are bad. Overall, he preaches moderation. One egg a day, and people with high-cholestrol should be taken off of them.
Dr. Oz did condemn the label "Fat-free", but not for the reasons that Dr. Atkins did. His problem with fat-free is that it gives people the license to eat all the fat-free products they want.
The thing that really annoyed me about this article is that he devotes 5 long paragraphs to "fad" diets, and Atkins is at the top of his list. He still lumps Atkins in the group of "fad" diets that eliminate whole food groups, and tells everyone that the Atkins regimen is extremely high-protein. Let me just quote the whole paragraph:
"The Atkins regimen--lots of meat and very few carbohydrates (including the natural sugars in fruits and vegetables)--had been briefly popular more than 30 years earlier but became a cultural phenomoenon after the Times story breathed new life into it. market foreces fed the craze, with menus reformulated to remove the last detectable carbohydrate molecule and carb-free labels slapped on foods that never contained them in the first place. Artisanal bakers wept (no carbs means no baguettes), and the uberfaithful began to suffer the bad breath of ketoacidosis, which occurs when glycogen stores are too low."
He goes on to say that there was significant weight loss, but it wasn't being sustained. Also, the much-relied on meats can lead to inflammation and irritation, heart attacks and strokes.
South Beach and Paleo weren't left untouched, either. The main concern being about elminating whole grains and dairy products.
I guess the best I can say is that he agrees that we should eat foods that look like they did when they came out of the ground-whole foods.

Funny that a fellow cardiologist wouldn't do more research on diets made by other, longer-working cardiologists such as Dr Atkins and Dr Agatston.0

To me, Oz looks like a Vulcan minus the logic. He should be thankful that the people he criticizes like Taubes above don't stoop to his low level of debate and bring up his recently discovered colon polyps.0 -
In the article he mentions that he doesn't understand how two people with the same diet history have completely different looking levels of plaque buildup. Hmmm, worth investigating, at the least?0

The last Dr Oz I watched was about how he laces his shoes top to bottom (rather than bottom up)...so they tied down by his toes... :huh:

I tried making a MiM last night using some protein powder (plus a little bit of heavy cream) instead of splenda and cinnamon. Didn't turn out too great. It was really tough and dry. Could only get through half of it before giving up. I did nuke it for about 2 minutes, so I don't know if it was that, or because of the protein powder.
Any one else try something similar?0 -

I just made some interesting meatballs for lunch. Hehe
I had some ground beef left over that needed to be used, so I diced up some onion, added in minced garlic, some flax meal, and pizza sauce. When they were done cooking I threw some cheese over top and let that melt. They were like little pizza meatballs. Pretty tasty!0 -
Hmmm... this might work. I added some cream to it because it was too thick. I'll try this tonight. Thanks for the suggestion!0

Well, I was finally down a pound 2 days in a row....had way too much sodium yesterday, as my dinner was the cheese, pepperoni and mushrooms off the top of half of a large pizza,, so I was up half a pound again, but I am not worried...
...tonight, though, I know I wont be doing great. My best friends sister is getting married, and I opted for the chicken parmesan 3 months ago before I decided to low-carb. I just wont eat the pasta and hope the slight breading on the chicken wont throw me of too bad (or try to scrape it off) and only have ONE bite of cake. I'm trying not to eat any (or very few) carbs throughout the day so that tonight wont totally screw me!

Here's a suggestion, stemming from the fact that I spent 5+ years working in the hotel catering business: ask your server when they are bringing around the salad course if you can switch to something else that you know is lower carb. They always make a few extra of each meal type in case more guests show than RSVP'd, and then some people don't show, so they are bound to have a couple extras of something that'll be more better for your diet.0 -
It's chilly here in ohio and I found this amazing hot chocolate recipe online! It satisfied every craving I had: for warmth, chocolate, sweetness and filled my belly!
2/3 cup water
1/3 cup heavy cream
Cinnamon to taste
1/8 tsp vanilla
2 packs splenda
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
Mix it all and heat! Soo good!0
