thanks for the link ssaraj. Brilliant post from the OP. I totally agree that women only weight area's just do more to alienate women from lifting weights. Lifting weights should not be seen as a male only thing. Might give my PT a call to run me through how to lift correctly or one of the PT in the gym. thanks.

Ok, I'm slightly scared after googling stronglifts!!!!!!! The gym I go to has an upstairs where most of the weights are. There can be oh 50 guys up there and maybe 1 or 2 female's! I need to know what I am doing before I touch anything, for obvious reasons. I can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Ok, good advise. Judging by your profile pic, you know what you are talking about!! Must look up stronglifts to see what I can do. No idea about it at this stage. Love love love lifting. I am one sore bunny the past few days as I took up the oul weights again on Monday...no pain, no gain. thanks for the reply.

But after running, I really need to do my stretches. I'd be crippled otherwise.

Sorry for being ignorant, but what's SL?!

I make chilli, spcicy lentil stew, turkey chilli and soups that I freeze. Just make some brown rice for 2 days and then you are sorted for the chilli. The lentil stew is better heated up actually. I bring my food to work every day and on my lazy days, I just grab one of them from the freezer.

Oh god, I don'tknow bout this! I was just sucking in my belly the other day in front of the mirrir and I've a pouch on my belly, it's IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of. I'd love to know what the secret is. When I sucked my belly in, under my ribs was lean, my sides were lean but my baby belly pouch is like a small inflatable…

yep love my height, I'm 5ft8. I feel like a short-*kitten* today for some reason. Thankfully being that bit taller, I can carry my extra weight really well. You'd never guess I weigh what I do!!! He he

I've recently started doing bikram yoga and I'm in love! I need high intesity to feel like I am doing an exercise. I find my joints much better. I've terrible glute/IT band/knee issues and the bikram really helps iron these out plus my foam roller usage.

thanks for your opinion linxus. WRT the big city attitude: I'm from Dublin and we live in Dublin so not nearly as big as Boston but I'm kinda used to the city attitude. My DH is from Paris and the Parisiens are not known for their hospitality either!! WRT weather, we are well used to wet, cold seasons here. Ireland doesn't…

Found this in Wiki for a definition of an L2 visa (spouse visa for those with a spouse sponsored to work in US under L1 visa) 'The holder of an L-2 visa does not need to obtain an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) to be allowed to work with any employer.[1] However, it is recommended to apply for an EAD in order to…

My DH would be sponsored by his employer. He is French and I am Irish. He spoke to another french guy who has been living in Boston for a year now and works for the same company as my DH. His Polish wife is allowed to work under their visa and is actively looking for work. But thanks for the heads up, obviously a big thing…

Anyone got any words of wisdom/advise?

I've a heart rate monitor on when I do spin and I burn in a 45mins class about 500 cals, more often it's 550. Again depends on instructor and your effort on the day.

Things like quinoa go a Loooonnnnngggggg way. 1 cup of uncooked quinoa makes 3 lunches for me. I mix it with salad leaves, feta, beetroot and chicken fillet cooked. It's filling and good for you. Stir fry veg is cheap and very filling esp mixed with chickpea's. I batch make food for the freezer: spicy lentil stew, bean…

Jeez, I didn't think it would turn into this kind of discussion. Each to their own. If people are offended by how it's produced, don't eat it. Simple as. It's my free choice. I eat meat, battery chicken fillets, beef I'm sure which wasn't humanely treated. If I could buy organic, free range meat from animals which have had…

Yes I know the way it's produced is not nice at all. Well sure my DH will devour most of it anyway! I'm sure he will try and give some to our kids too, they are 2 & 3.

Bottoms - I always wear Nike dri-fit. 2 pairs of full length leggings plus 3/4 length also. Worth every penny. Tops - I wear lose fitting tops as my tummy is my worst area. Puma seem to be the best at recognising the fact that you don't want a tight fitting top that accentuates your belly area (!) so I have 4 tops from…

I was stuck for 4/5months at the same weight. I'm 5ft8 and currently about 172lbs, want to be down to 164lbs. I got a personal trainer who overhauled my gym programme/what I do. I really looked at my diet and was super strict with it. It was really my gym programme that changed things as my diet was/is 90% good. I lost 5…

I have access to a microwave in work and prefer hot meals. I have: - spicy lentil stew - sausage casserole - spicy bean soup (loaded with all types of pulses, veg) - chilli con carne with brown rice - homemade meatloaf with salad - curried quinoa with salad (super yum, my new fav) - spanish omelette with leftovers in it -…

Oh hello, give yourself a break. 4 week old baby in the house!!!! Everyone will br cranky, tired and taking it out on each other. My husband did not 'do' the newborn stage and we argued and argued for weeks and weeks when we brought our 2 kids home frmo the hospital. Re not being able to participate in the whole bf'ng…

I had knee problems too (from running, me and running are not a match made in heaven!). I now do the bike/cross trainer in the gym. Do this 20mins and 15 mins resp and burn about 400 cals so not bad. I run outside again but take it very easy and only for 30-40mins a pop. I used to do 60mins but then my IT band got sore.…

Na, I don't believe in diets. I've never been on one, just try and eat healthy and cut the crap out! Been successful for the most part. I am ready to embrace a new life-eating change, I just need to rem to eat when I am hungry not pick at things. It's when I get home with the kids and tend to pick so I try and get my…

I don't totally fall off the wagon, just go thru a short phase of eating a few bad things. Kinda think I deserve it after losing some weight. Which is totally the wrong thing to think. I'm getting my programme changed as I've been doing the same one for 2 months now and I like to keep myself on my toes and my body on it's…

My boobs were quite squishey after I breast fed my 2 kids. All I can say is that weights have been great for my boobs. Yes i have lost a little in volume after losing weight but chest press really helps and they are plumper etc after I started lifting. When I stopped exercising for 4-5 months, I noticecd a real difference…

I get it. It's mostly yeasty foods that set me off, stress plays a huge part also. I can literally feel my tummy starting to cramp if I get stressed out about stuff.

I have had it for over 2 years now and I am slowly beginning to think it does indeed hinder weight loss. I honestly don't know if it's because I'm older now (35) and after 2 kids but I didn't find it this hard to lose weight before. I remember going on hols to Italy before I had any kids. I lost weight, was down to 11stone…

How am I only hearing about this now??!!!!!!!!!! Totally goin' to try this this weekend. I love porridge but it's a bit hot (well Irish hot! ) to be eating hot porridge. Excited to try this now, bit bored of my shredded wheat with banana/blueberry mix! Thanks

I found that what broke my plateau was completely changing my exercise programme. My diet was/is roughly the same with only a few minor tweeks. I was stuck for 4-5months. Saw a PT and changed my cardio/weights. I also started running outside too. I've lost 4 lbs in 3 weeks and it's going great.

Change your gym/workout programme. I was on a plateau for 4 months. I got a PT in the gym and completely overhauled my programme. 3 weeks in and I'm down 4lbs and on the way to loosing more.
