very true you may loose a lot of weight when you first start dieting, this is usually water weight, and then you settle in to proper weight loss of 1 - 2 lb a week

cant really tell, the grey pic is small and my eyesight isnt to good. you need to dress in similar items of clothing so you can tell. you cant see the tops of your arms in the first one. make sure you measure your arms and legs so you can see any change that happens

the best frying pan pan to get is a cast iron pan, they will last forever, and once seasoned will be non stick. non stick pans are ok as long as you dont scour them or scratch them.
