Because Serena actually has worked at building muscle for many years. Unlike Madonna, Angela, etc. who just cut fat so you could see the muscles they already had. Do you understand, now? It takes either years of training (Serena) or years of training plus juice (Chyna) to get like that. Angela and Madonna have smaller arms…

I am so lazy about sleeping. I don't even work until 9, but have trouble waking up at 6 or 6:30 for the 7am workout before. At least I know I'll get another chance after work. As soon as I get some other things I care about more in check, I may challenge myself to work out in the morning.

If the 400lb guy gets out of bed, he's lifting, which is probably why he's so strong. Now to convince him not to go on severe calorie restriction and cardio so he loses all the muscle...

Are you saying that other than the arms, Chyna looks just like every other non-using natural lady to you? Pointing to assisted body builders is seriously a big part of the problem. Women are probably out there afraid to lift because they think it will give them facial hair and thickened vocal cords, too.

I am blessed with the uncanny ability to put on four pounds of WATER in my muscles with only a single workout!

Glancing over your diary, it looks like you're well under your nutrition on most days. You might need to eat more to fuel your running.

You can try some leg raises. Hang from pullup bar or captain's chair and raise them up. If that is too hard you can raise them on an incline bench or flat and work up to hanging.

I was a little worried about you. Your bf looks like he should have more than 1300. :)

I have been making my own protein bars by mixing it with peanut butter in a 1:1 ratio. I portion them in 2 Tbsp portions and wrap in plastic wrap and store in the freezer. They are not very low calorie, though.

That's okay. Tomorrow will bring a new opportunity to plan your day so that you can get enough nutrition to do well at your workout.

Pullups and chinups on the playground equipment. If you can't do any, start with negatives (jump up and try to lower yourself slowly).

I think I am going to order the book to take on vacation with me. So I wouldn't be starting for a few weeks. I've already been practicing squats and super light deadlifts (not putting it down in between, is that called Romanian?), but we'll see if any of Rip's advice contradicts my trainer's. :)

Butter XD

I think if I were you, that would provide me with some excellent motivation to lift heavier. MUCH heavier.

To be fair, I either walk or bike 2.5 miles a day as my commute, but that's not too hard and I was doing it for years before I started weight training three months ago. As soon as I started weight training, I would notice that I sort of hit a wall with my progress and recovery, and then I would notice that I lost a few…

Should be about two or three days. Mine do it like whoa, and for me it's usually three or four pounds.

If I did it over again, I would simply say I want to be taught proper form for squatting a barbell, deadlifting a barbell, presses. And to be shown how to work toward full pushups, dips and pullups if you can't already. If I have to start with body weight or dumbbells for the barbell exercises, fine, but barbell with…

Glycogen. And yes, that's why you're supposed to lift first.

I pretty much do embarrassing things on a regular basis. Almost falling over when doing walking lunges. Having to bring a table over to the pull up bar so I can jump up and do my negative pull ups since I can't do a positive one yet and am also short. There are often dudes waiting who are able to do many positive pull ups.…

I always eat something small within about an hour before the gym. I forgot once and that's the only time I have gotten nauseated.

I have been liking it because I need to stretch in places that the jocks who are training me to lift weights don't know how to tell me to stretch. Every time I walk out of yoga I feel like some broken part of my body became fixed in the past hour.
-
Is your fat intake usually way under what MFP tries to give you? How about protein?
-
Thanks, Chris. :) I do the assisted machine alternated with just negative pull ups. When I started trying the negatives the first time, I slid right back down, lol.

I hit on a system for protecting my long hair while swimming if anyone is interested. First, make sure your hair is well saturated with tap water in the shower. Coil it on top of your head. Next, take your lycra cap and saturate that with tap water and cover all your hair with it. Alone, the lycra cap is worthless and will…

I walk or bike to work which is a little over a mile each way. I warm up 5 minutes on whatever machine I feel like before I stretch and lift weights. That's about it.

I enjoyed this article. I think I have it, but only because I'm not there with my fitness level yet. I can't do one pull up, though I work towards it. Is that an excuse?
-
I just do it because I feel better afterwards. If things are tight and you don't know how to stretch them out, a yoga teacher probably does.
-
I'm going to put out there that you might not want to invest and then clutter up your house with dumbbells at weights you will be looking to leave behind forever very soon. I'm your age, and started weight training in July. I was struggling to get up the 5 lb dumbbells for certain things when I started. I don't think I'm…

If you don't like a class, don't assume it's the material. I took yoga at my gym from two teachers and I liked one but not the other.
