Welcome! My story. What's yours?
I am 44 years old, 2 kids, and am on the journey of "The Change." I never had a weight problem, until my 40s. Since turning 42ish I have steadily gone up a pound a month, and it is now the most stubborn 20 pounds to lose. No matter how much I diet and exercise, my weight continues to go up. Your issue with menopause may be…

Eat a pickle, gain a pound?
Yesterday, I ate a "brine pickle" (with 250 mg sodium). Today, I am a pound heavier! The only thing I can contribute this gain to is the pickle. I ate everything else within limits. The pickle didn't add much calories . . . but why on earth did I retain so much water? I also did not exercise hard yesterday, so I know it's…

So, I am hearing all the hoopla about African Mango supplements. Dr. Oz recommends it for weight loss. After reading the Internet, it sounds like it's pretty darn good. But, I don't know if those testimonials are by someone who works for the company... But, I trust you all. Has anyone tried African Mango? Successs or…

Water, finally made good
I can drink water, but I don't "love it" until now. A quart or so of water (almost what your blender will hold) 4 or 5 fresh strawberries 1 teaspoon of cinnamon juice of one lime.... blend in blender. Looks a little like a daiquiri. Tastes very refreshing. (I admit that I found this on Dr. Oz this week. Dr. Oz or not,…

https://player.vimeo.com/video/78310612 I hope the above video gives someone inspiration. I am 45 years old, and I am figure skating for exercise and fun. First 2 weeks & No Weight Loss, until TODAY!
First two weeks this is what I did. I exercised every day for 45 minutes, sometimes more, running/intervals too. I ate reasonably, about 1300-1500 calories a day. I put cocoa in my coffee after reading about it's magnesium helping people lose weight. No weight loss at all. Getting frustrated. So, I switched it up a little…

Wyoming people skinny, but Atlanta is obese
I went on vacation over the holidays. In Jackson Hole, Wyoming I never saw one "super fat" person the whole week I was there. A few had some meat on their bones, but most were normal to average. The locals seemed fit and trim. But, in Atlanta, it was the opposite. Not many healthy weight people. Is it the altitude? Is it…

National Healthcare can not help us, MFP can
My thoughts... I don't know how many trillions the United State collectively spends on healthcare, nor how much of what is spent is wasted on admistrative costs and duplicative procedures/tests. But, I do think that no matter how much money and medical talent we throw at healthcare, we are a sick nation and all such…

Treadmill Calorie Count Question
Precor treadmill's calories burned has at 3.8 mph about 300 calories an hour, but at 3.9 to 4.0 it jumps to about 500 calories an hour. I walk at 4,0 to 4.1 or 4.2, but have to start running at 4.3. I'm 5'4". If I am walking at 4.0, is the 500 calories right? Is the 4.0ish mark where most peope run?

I am sore from exercise. I put the heating pad on last night, about 12 hours after I exercised. I did not wait the 24 hours like it is recommended. I am not as sore today, so I think I did a good thing. But, why the cold for 24 hours/then heat afterwards advice?

Ever eat disgusting (or wonderful) diet food? What was it?

What's your New Year's Goal (& How are You Going to do it?)
My goal is to work out for 60 minutes a day, each and every day for 2012. The only exception is if there is a hurricane, or I have a fever of over 101 degrees. I am going to alternate exercises so I don't get bored. Treadmill, eliptical, classes, yoga, swimming, tennis . . . and, of course, skating. If I can burn 500…
