NY Cheesecake morph
I've mastered the fluff. It's time to move to cheesecakes. Here's a quickie that can be made and eaten in the same day. I took a basic recipe for cheesecake and tweaked it for a low fat / high protein version. Once I get a solid basic cheesecake down, I want to experiment with some different flavor combinations. My…

Significance of Ice
A couple days ago I decided to whip out the fluff again. It had been a good 6 months since I last made a batch. When I was finished, I didn't have quite the same volume (less than 3 min total stand mixer time on high) but I had a better overall fluff experience. Minimal bloating, but still plenty full. I got around to…

Do cheesecake?
After many many batches of protein fluff, it was time to move on to mastering cheesecake. Low cal, high protein and customizable, the cheesecake is quite a versatile piece of dessert as I've found. Last night I created this frumpy, sad looking pumpkin cheesecake. Entire cake came out to 847 calories, 89g protein, 84g…

Chocolate Expresso Protein Fluff
I just shoveled down a bowl of this. The first batch using Myofusion whey where I enjoyed the flavor so much, I'm going up to make another batch here before too long. 40g Gaspari Myofusion (Milk Chocolate flavor) 3 Egg Whites 2 Packets of sugar alternative 2 tbsp Hershey's Baking Cocoa 1/2 c. Almond Breeze (40/cal version)…

Frankenstein Muffins
I felt like baking today, so I created these muffins that turned out decent enough. I used one of those Wilton Giant Muffin tins, which make 6 muffins instead of the usual 12. Little muffins don't make mongo happy! lol The point here is the calories would be cut in half for a regular sized muffin pan. 1.5c. shredded carrot…

Chocolate Expresso Protein Fluff
Ack ^^ Espresso... I just posted this over in the Protein Fluff group but because this was so good I had to pop over here and share this. If you like to make the most out of your calories, and enjoy eating volume without sacrificing taste or wasting your macros just give this stuff a try. Protein fluff should be put in the…

Food for the Road
I have a 1250 mile drive, which I plan to do non-stop. I depart Friday at noon. I'm planning to hit the grocery store before I leave and buy my food for the trip. I was thinking of getting a loaf of bread, fresh ground almond butter and beef jerky. Any clever ideas? It cannot need to be refrigerated.

Random thought about bacon
When you cook the bacon, a fair amount of fat is left in the pan. In calculating the calories of bacon, are you actually under-estimating the calories by discarding the fat? I usually cook my eggs in the fat afterwards. Adds flavor...and fat.

Thanksgiving Stress
Like, OMG, what should I do on Thanksgiving day? I don't want to eat any sugar, or fat or foods with alot of sodium. What am I going to do? I don't want my family to think I'm on a diet.

Do you feel this way too?
Every day I read post after post and I see the same topics pop up. The same people reply and give the same advice (not advise), yet nobody bothers to use the search feature. Some people genuinely don't know and at least make an attempt to objectively learn something new. Others, it appears as they come here seeking…

Chosing an Activity Level
What should I be setting my activity level too? Workout Routine consists of 3x per week Starting Strength Practical Programing 5x per week Army PRT which is pretty weak if you ask me. Here's an example of a typical workout, in sequence. Warm Up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6HlWmhyHy4 Conditioning Drill 1:…

4 month progress pics
This isn't a before / after but instead a progress photo. This was taken 20 November 2011 @ 270'ish lbs. At this point I'd already lost 23lbs primarily from running regularly since April 2010, however I wasn't counting calories, nor did I know MFP even existed. This was taken today (31 March 2011) @ 240lbs. I've been using…

Supplement: Omega 3
If taking an omega-3 supplement has ever crossed your mind, I wanted to share my initial impression of Ascentra's NutraSea DHA & EPA Omega 3. It's in liquid form, lemon flavored and 40 calories per serving (1 tsp). As my first Omega 3 supplement I was concerned with the taste, aftertaste, oily consistency and the mental…

Easy Brown-Bag Ideas
I'd like to see what some of you are packing in your coolers to bring to work. Quick to prepare, and 400'ish calories is what I'm looking for. Not interested in microwave meals. Lately I've been doing 4 oz of low sodium deli turkey on wheat or tuna sandwiches. Looking forward to getting a couple different options in my…

RMR Testing
I had a Resting Metabolic Rate test performed today and I must say it was nice to see specifically how many calories your body burns at rest in comparison to MFP or other online calculators. If anyone else has had this test performed, I'm interested in hearing about what you learned and how the results differed from MFP…

Evaluating Daily Caloric Needs - (This contains math!)
It's been 3 months since joining MFP. Since joining I've really learned alot. I've been through the whole, "do I eat my exercise calories or not" and understand the math that's going on behind the scenes. MFP uses the MD Mifflin / ST Jeor method for determining BMR, which is one of three available formulas for determining…

All of your questions are answered here....
So the topic was supposed to be somewhat humorous..but having been on the Army weight control program earlier in my career, I thought I'd share the U.S Army's view on weight loss and nutrition. All joking aside, this may not be the most up to date information available but if you can sort through the military jargon,…

Late night workout / eat or no?
My daily calorie consumption for a 1.5lb weight loss per week is 2170 calories. This evening, I did a 9 mile run with a heart rate monitor and logged 2100 calories burned. It was 9:30pm when I finished and I was 1600 calories under for the day. So, should I eat those calories or not? I did eat so that I'm now 500 less than…

Male Runners - Running shorts?
This may be a odd question but what are your preferences in running shorts (brand / cut) and why? Please no spandex versions!

Importance of the "proper" running shoe
Bottom line up front...If you're running to lose weight, and have never been properly fit for a running shoe, you're cheating yourself out of a better running experience. I joined the Army in 1998 and as you can imagine, running is part of the sub-culture. Needless to say it's been a part of my life for the better part of…

Alternative to Subway
Hey everyone, With my job, I find myself traveling 180 days per year which makes it hard to stay on a steady diet as if one were eating out of their refrigerator every day. When traveling I instantly resort to Subway for a couple of reasons. 1. They are everywhere. 2. They are cheap. 3. I am familiar with their menu and…

Kansas City
Hello, After looking at the ap on my phone I thought I'd check it out online. I'm Geoff, 31, out of Kansas City. My wakeup call came this past April 1st. I finished some military training at a whopping 292 lbs, the heaviest I've ever weighed. The day after training, my wife and I hopped on a plane to Tahiti for 10 days and…
