I get very hungry and cranky when I diet.
Hi! I have dieted successfully in the past but in the last couple of years I have struggled. My understanding of nutrition is very good but here's my problem - each time I start eating at a deficit, even not a huge one, I'm averaging 1350 calories (net) and I'm really short, I get hungry, depressed and cranky. I can't make…

Apps for mfp that track treadmill workouts
I have a moto 360 watch. I want to install an app that would know that I'm running on a treadmill and hopefully sync with mfp. There are so many apps out there and I don't even know where to start. Does anyone have some insight? Thanks so much in advance!

Pre Workout Food
Hi! I have not worked out in a while. But I know I can't lift weight if I'm hungry. What's good to eat before a workout? Fruit? Bread? Nuts / nut butter?

Starting today! How do you like your new shape?
Hi! I am a 31 yr old woman from NYC. I am starting 5x5 today!!! I did NROLFW up to mid stage 3, when it got too time consuming and ineffective, I decided to follow my gut feeling and seek something better. I was mostly unhappy with the constant stage changes, not being able to add weight. If you've done it you know, every…

Will I always be the one who used to be fat?
Just a lighthearted gripe... For those who already lost a good portion of their weight, do you ever feel like everyone who knows you a long time, always sees you in comparison to how you were? I have been the same weight for 3 years now after losing 25lbs way back. I'm 5"2 so it was really noticeable. Every time I see…

Looking for easy chicken recipes
Hi! So, except for schnitzels, I have never prepared any chicken before. Nor have I prepared anything that used to be alive. My DH is vegetarian and we eat together, so I never bothered. (except for dinner parties, hence the schnitzels). Now, I have this new horizon with a lot more free time, and a whole lot less stress (I…

This made me chuckle. Also interesting piece on obesity.
http://www.elle.com/beauty/health-fitness/american-obesity-crisis?src=spr_FBPAGE&spr_id=1448_68808815&linkId=8685130 THIS IS AN EXCERPT - In the beginning, there was the low-fat dictum, which was revised to: cut out saturated fats but encourage vegetable fats—unless your vegetable fats are trans fats, in which case they’re…

Pasta a la primavera - is this low calorie?
Does anybody know how I can estimate this dish? I went to a local spot so no nutrition info. Name of dish: Whole wheat vermicelli (kind of spaghetti) with vegetables a la primavera. It had about 2 cups cooked of pasta, that's easy. Then about a cup of veggies (carrot, zucchini, broccoli), and some very light wine sauce.…

Fad diet rant-o-rama!
Hi guys! Thought a fun topic would be to list all crazy fad diets you've heard of or tried, describing the gist and maybe adding your little anecdotes! I did the cabbage soup diet over 15 years ago. I can never smell cabbage soup again!! haha. I lost 7lbs in the first week but all went back. Common' everyone, jump on the…

Lose without tracking?
Has anyone had success losing weight sustainably without tracking? I am curious. Tracking makes me a bit to obsessed with food and makes me manipulate the numbers a lot. Just wondering if anyone has ever succeeded in a different way...

Stop Progress on Purpose? (SL 5x5)
I have a question that is probably very far in the future for me but I still wonder because I know it will eventually happen. I plan to start Strong Lifts 5x5 very soon, probably when I get back from my honeymoon in mid June. So let's say I do this program for a while, adding weights, looking better and then I reach a…

Hidden Calories
For lunch, I sometimes pick up food from the buffet area of the lunch place in my office building. I pick the healthiest things I can. My question for the day is- as I select my healthy grilled vegetables and boiled turkey breast, I am sure there are hidden calories. The vegetables are probably grilled with some oil. I do…

Do those devices really tell you how much you burn in a day?
I know a lot of people wear HRMs and the like, and I wondered about that. Will it tell me how much I actually burn every 24 hours? That would be really helpful to determine how many calories to consume, you know? How does it work? What has been your experience with such monitors? Is it very different than MFP's estimates?

What do you guys plan to do after you finish the program?
I like this program but it will end in a few months (I started stage 3 and do 2-3 times a week). My thoughts are to repeat the book at higher weights OR do super charged OR switch to strong lifts What will you do? Or have done? Or think is a good idea and why?

When working out is less important
So I really want consistency in my routine but I have night school 3 nights a week. I go to the gym on all off nights and once on Saturday. I have little wiggle room. Today is my off day and I should go. I am motivated to go. I want to. But I feel guilty. My cat has an unexpected condition and we need to tend to him.…

Trouble Sleeping
So I remember the book says something about how the work out affect things like sleep. Lately, my sleep has been very light and I feel like I am half awake all night long. What am I doing wrong? This is not typical for me. Anybody experience something like that?

Chop't
Does anybody actually like that place? I just went to Chop't for lunch and created my own salad with yummy toppings like tempeh, quinoa and corn. I was looking for a good amount of protein for reasonable calories. All in all with light dressing it was like 450 calories, and basically felt like a big bowl of lettuce! I was…

My Passover Strategy
Having friends for Passover Seder next Monday. Lately I was being too loosy goosy on my diet so I have decided not to give in to excuses anymore (birthdays, holidays, stress-days... you know) So this is me envisioning what I will do on that food laden dinner: 1. Focus on people, not food 2. Skip dessert, this is a trigger…

My new mantra/poem
I can't I can't control the girth of my thighs. I can't control my height. I can't control my current weight. I can't control what happens throughout the day. I can't control that others are skinny. I can't control how fast I lose weight. I can't control how fast I can gain strength. I can I can plan my meals. I can weigh…

Getting in Touch With Your Feelings
While eating right and exercising are crucial for getting a healthy body, I have come to realize that neither is sustainable unless we get in touch with our feelings. I have always been afraid to express how I feel, didn't want to seem like a cry baby or a nagging person, and always wanted to be likeable. I never noticed…

Comforting Lunch Ideas
This is a woman's issue, but there are times in the month we really want to eat something more comforting like baked goods. I am trying to think what lunch option would have a soothing effect on me and still be somewhat healthy?

Going Backwards
Not literally... ha ha. Yesterday was workout B5. Last time I did the dumbbell shoulder press I breezed through 12 reps holding 15 lbs in each arm. I was sure I could do 10 reps holding 20 lbs. I failed after 8 reps. So I went back to 15 lbs, and guess what? I couldn't finish any set. The next one I got to 9, and on the…

Deadlift Back Pain
Hi group. I'm still new here, and I have a lot of questions but am trying to ask one at a time :) So, today was Stage 1, Workout 2-B. i.e. this is my second time doing the deadlift. I watched many videos on form, and I really try to get my back straight or in natural curve, but I think I am arched a bit. Not sure what I am…

Working through soreness stage 1, day 2
Hi group! I'm happy to join. I read the book and am excited and motivated! Yesterday was my first workout and tomorrow is my second time. I am quite sore as expected (very sore, actually) and wanted to double check that it's okay to workout tomorrow even though I am sore rather than let my muscles another day to recover.…

Confused about calories
I read the book section about calculating how much I need to eat during the program. I am 5"2 and 132lbs. I want to be at most 129, and wouldn't mind being 125 but I don't care all that much. (I feel great at 129 even though there's still a bit to grip- I am curvy.) Anyway, the book says that on non-training days I need to…

Can't Say No
There are always yummy things at work from people bringing home made cookies, to conferences' muffins and bagels. I am not hungry when I see these foods, but I just can't seem to pass them up (and honestly, they are usually not even that good). I have this compulsion to ALWAYS eat some if it's there and if it's carbs. Why…

Great Fats
Hi Forum, According to my diary I need to eat a lot more fat and a bit less sugar and protein. What are some great sources of fat that don't have too much protein and sugar in them? Today is my first day using the diary. I was on WW for over 2 years and was tracking there but I'm a bit stuck so trying MFP.

Not losing and/or gaining
Hello Discussion board, I'm new here but I've been doing weight watchers for a couple of years and lost 25 lbs two years ago and now I'm trying to finish up the last 5 lbs. But no luck. Hoping you guys have some ideas. I took a break from losing but maintained for a long time. I've recently gotten serious again but…
