What cardio do you do?
Hi Ladies, I'm just wondering what cardio you do (if any) along with your strength programme. I'm in my second week of SL 5X5 and usually do 20-25 mins on elliptical 2/3 times a week on lifting days. 10 mins as a warm up and then 15 hiit after lifting. I'm only starting so not sure if this is a good way to be doing it.…

Knee Injury - Weight Training?
Hi all, I went for a run last Saturday for the first time in ages (stoopid cardio  ) and my knee has been sore since. From reading on the internet i think it is Iliotibial Band Syndrome. It;s the outside of my knee that's sore and it's mostly when walking downhill or down the stairs not up. Anyway I'm a few weeks into…

Squatting unevenly.
As I'm squatting I've realised that my right leg seems to be higher than my left leg when I'm coming out of the squat. I'm squatting a fairly low weight at the minute (12kg) just trying to concentrate on form but I can only see this getting worse as I move up through the weights. Any ideas what it could be?

Scales Trouble
Hopped on my scales this morning and it was giving me three different weights! All of which showed an increase, varying from .5kg-1.5kg!! My boyfriend had the scales all week stored sideways in the sitting room, could that make the scale wonky? Feeling disheartened because I've been eating well and expected a loss or at…

My gym doesn't have 2.5lb plates
Hi all, I just started SL yesterday and in the PDF he says to move up by 5lbs each time. Tomorrow I'll be squatting again but as the smallest plates my gym has are 2.5kg(5.5lbs) and I'll need one for each side of the bar, I'll have to move up by 11lbs each time instead of 5. I'm thinking this is too much?? Any ideas what I…

Stronglifts instead of NROL4W
Hi all, I was finished level 2 of NROL4W before Christmas and was supposed to start level 3 this week. But I can't find my book anywhere. Anyway I was looking through the Stronglifts programme and I'm thinking of trying it out for the next few months. It seems way simpler than NROL4W anyway but I'm just wondering if anyone…

Lifting on Consecutive Days
Hey, I have 4 workouts left on stage 2 of nrol4w and want to get them all done before sat as on sat morning I go to my folks for Christmas with no gym nearby. Do you think it would be OK to do the 4 workouts Sun-Fri, it would mean doing two of them on consecutive days to get them done. Thanks guys

Ripped in 30-What size weights?
I'm currently doing NROL4W but am spending Christmas at my parent's with no gym around. I don't want to do nothing during this time so I'm thinking of doing JM RI30 each day while I'm there. I'm just wondering what weight people are using for this. The last time I did it I used 2kg/4.5lbs but I think that I should go…

Doing Normal Squats instead of FSSP- Stage 2
Hi everyone, I felt like I was just getting the hang of the squat in stage 1 and now it's all changed in stage 2. You think it would be OK to continue doing the normal squat that's in stage 1 instead of changing? Thanks

Special Workouts
Hi all, I'm nearing the end of stage 1  Last workout B today, and then just the two special workouts. Do you think it would be OK to do the two special workouts on one day. As it's just one set of each it seems a waste of two proper training days. Did anyone else do it like this? Thanks a mil,

Measurements Gain! :-(
Hi, I'm more than halfway through stage 1 and this morning decided to take some measurements as I was curious. I measured under bust, waist and abdomen and they've all gone up by a cm or two!!! I'm so disheartened. I thought that the scale might go up but I expected a decrease on the measuring tape! This happen to anyone…

Sore lower back after deadlifts
My lower back is really sore after deadlifting yesterday. Not sure what to do. I'm in the middle of stage 1 of the NROLFW programme. I'm really enjoying it and don't want to stop but don't want to have a back injury either!! Maybe I'm doing it wrong. This happen to anyone else?

Warming Up
Does everyone warm up the way he suggests in the book: by actually lifting weights that are 50%/75%/90% the weight of the weights you're going to lift? It seems so close to what you'll actually be doing that it'll be a waste of time. I was thnking that my 10 min cycle to the gym would be warm up enough. Sorry if this is a…

Calories in a typical pizza from an Italian restuarant
Does anyone know how many calories are generally in a margharita pizza from an Italian restaurant. You know the ones that are thin crust for one person. I think they're usually around 10 inches? Not totally sure. Anyone have any ideas? I'm going for dinner tonight and I want to pre log. Thanks

Lifting Weights: squat
Should your upper legs be parallel to the ground when doing a squat? Cos mine aren't! They are when I do a squat without any weights but not when I squat with weights. I started with 11kg and am now squatting 15.5kg, but is there any point in increasing weight if I'm not doing it right?

Hi, I'm going to start nrol4w tomorrow. I'm wondering what size weights most of you ladies out there used at the beginning? Particularly those of you who were new to lifting. Not sure what to start the squat with especially. Thanks

Seated Row machine
Hi, I know that it might be different in every gym but I'm just wondering how much do the weighted bars actually weigh? They just say 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. So I'm not sure how much I'm actually lifting. This is the kind of machine I mean Thanks

Weight Lifting Advice-Do you think I'm lifting enough?
Hi everyone, I started a weight lifting programme about a month ago. I went to a trainer and he designed a programme. I was going to do NROLFW but then the trainer made a programme so I just thought I' go with that and see how it works out. So I've been doing it 2/3 times a week for the past month. I haven't noticed a…

Following the Eating Plan.
I'm a vegetarian and think I'm going to find it hard to follow the eating plan and to get all the protein I need. Has anyone seen results without eating all that protein? And is it absolutely necessary to drink the protein shakes, the whey protein. I really don't like eating so much processed/artificial stuff. Thanks for…

Post strength training snack -vegetarian
Hi, I'm starting a strength training programme and my trainer said to eat something high in protein after a workout. I'm a vegetarian. He suggested chocolate milk, a shake, a protein bar. However I try not to eat processed food (although i do on occasion) but this would mean eating something processed 3 times a week after…

Wide Shoulders
One thing that he says in the book is that women's measurements do not increase, with the exception of shoulder width. He says that shoulders will inevitably widen. He goes on to say that "it's hard to see any aesthetic or functional downside to having wider, more athletic looking shoulders" However I already have wide…

How many days at each level?
Hi everyone, I'm just wondering how many days everyone is doing at each level? I've been doing about 5 days a week but if I were to do it in 30 days that would mean I would just be doing the DVD for 20 days in total. So my thinking is to do it for 6 weeks in total and do 7 days at each level 5 days a week. What's everyone…
