NSV-completed my first 5K!
I have always been scared of running, convinced I couldn't do it. Could never make myself keep going when my brain would say "stop you fool, this sucks!". I decided that I wanted to complete one 5k in my life-cross that baby off my bucket list. So I started trying to run on the treadmill, finally got tired of my family…

Flaxseed
I just wanted to see if this has happened to others. A few years ago I had this one-month period where I would randomly become very sick in the AM, upset stomach/vomiting, and other...eh...GI symptoms. Had an emergency room visit, doctors appointments, no one could figure out what was wrong. The only thing I could pinpoint…

can you replace parts of HRM?
I have a polar FT4, and today on my way to the gym I lost the chest strap and transmitter (whatever the part is that clicks into the chest strap), so now I find myself with just the watch. Has anyone ever been able to buy just those two parts instead of a whole new HRM? :-(

Now I know it's not a scientific journal or anything, but I did find the article interesting and was wondering if any cross fitters on MFP have…

Tendonitis and loss of motivation
I am feeling so awful right now. For the past week and a half my ankle has been hurting and when I went to the doctor a few days ago they confirmed it's tendonitis. I have a referral to physical therapy and have been told to ice it, take lots of ibuprofen, and take it easy. My usual workout routine is high impact, like…

Becoming a group fitness instructor
I have been toying with the idea of getting certified to teach group fitness classes (step aerobics, spinning etc) for a long time now. I work full time and per diem as a social worker and would love a per diem job that is NOT social work (because I'm burning out). I find myself fearful to take the steps I need to get my…

Lower back pain
I was in my turbokick class tonight, which is nothing new, I've been doing classes like this for years, and for some reason my lower back really started to hurt. I have had this ache before when using kettlebells and I read it was because of my form. I've never had my back ache like this in a kickboxing class though. Maybe…

what to name my new tortoise?
My husband and I just got two 4-month old (I think?) Red-foot tortoises. They are soooo adorable. We each get to name one. I am trying to brainstorm names. So far I'm thinking of Bogie or Toot-toot. any ideas? edited to say-I have no idea if they are males or females yet.

Newbie kettlebell questions
I just got my first kettlebell and have been doing some free workouts I found on youtube. I just had some questions about how kettlebells fit into an overall workout program. For example, right now (pre-kettlebell) I usually do two days of upper body traditional weights and two days of lower body, along with five days of…

Name
I don't know how to make the ~ above the "n", but I was wondering if anyone knew how to cook this vegetable? I was trying to get a jicama from the grocery store but they didn't have any, so my husband picked it up thinking it looked similar, but I'm thinking it's not, that you have to cook it. What I've read says it's like…

Allergies and exercise
I have year round allergies to probably a bunch of stuff, but right now is the worst time of year for me. Ever since Monday night my nose has been running, non-stop sneezing, tired, you name it. I take meds, but yesterday was feeling so sick I skipped the gym. I'm a teeny tiny bit better today, still feel like ****, and I…

Sore calves
I think I may already know the answer, but I just wanted to get opinions. My calves get really sore after some high impact workouts-kickboxing with lots of bouncing, step aerobics, HIIT. Is this an indication my calves are weak and need to be strengthened? Or do I need new shoes?

Carb Lover's diet
I just got this book out of the library. I tried some recipes from Health Magazine from this book and they were good. I just wanted to know if other people have given this a try and how they felt on it? I've got this stubborn 10 lbs left to lose and would like to mix it up a bit.

Anyone own their own business?
My husband wants to start his own business. Nothing big, just selling items out of our home or at hobby shows. Anyone have experience with doing this? We don't have a lot of money so I am trying to figure out all the legal/financial stuff on my own so I can take care of it myself.

Things to do that don't involve bars!!!
I HATE bars. I hate the atmosphere. The crowd. The drunken idiots. I am desperate for something to do that does not involve going to these places but still gets me out of the house. Anyone have suggestions/ideas?

Fatigue and the gym
I worked late last night and only got maybe 5 hours sleep (that's really not alot for me, I do better on a full eight). I'm dragging at work today. Thinking about skipping my gym class, cause spinning kicks my @$$ on a good day! Thoughts? Try to drag myself through the gym or go home and take it easy?

PLATEAU!!!
I think I hit a plateau. I got to my goal weight of 125, and then weighed myself on tuesday and was back up to 130. I am 5ft 1 and 32 yrs old, but rather muscular so I have always been towards the higher end of a healthy BMI. However, I feel really stuck and unhappy at 130. I go to the gym five days a week. I try my…

Calorie counters/ie fitbit, body bugg, etc.
So, I have worn a fit bit for the past year. Well, two fitbits exactly because my first one broke, they replaced it (it cracked right in half! The plastic casing came off). shoes and/or inserts
I want to preface this by saying, I dont have alot of money to spend on expensive shoes or inserts. However, I am noticing that my feet hurt during high impact exercise like step aerobics and kickboxing. It makes it so that I do'nt want to finish the class, but I do. I was thinking about those Dr Scholls custom fit…

Slimming the lower body?
I know you cannot spot reduce. I know people are genetically engineered to carry weight in different locations and you can't always fight genetics. But I REALLY hate my lower body. I carry my weight in my hips, thighs, and butt. I don't mind having a big bootie, but the thighs...those I wish I could slim down. Currently, I…
