I had a few really bad days last week. A couple of close family members were taken to the Emergency Department, and I was the point person for dealing with the hospitalizations and all that went with them. In the past, that would have sent me into several days (or more) of bad eating because I would have just stopped caring about what or how I ate. Or I would have gone to comfort food because I "deserved" it after dealing with all the stress. But surprisingly, last week my craving was for good, healthy, on-plan food because my subconscious told me that I needed to take care of myself, too. I don't think that's ever happened before, and it was quite a revelation. In fact, I found myself rather stunned when I realized that I've internalized a different perspective on what I "deserve". Even though I'm more of a lurker than a poster, I thank the MFP community for that! (And for those of you who are wondering, those hospitalized family members are doing well!)49

Four for me:
1.TOM on Wed and would normally curl up on the sofa after work. Away for Easter hols and really want to complete c210k before I go. I normally exercise first thing in the morning. Well I came home after work, got out the treadmill and completed W12 D1! First time on my period my weight is heading down hill, normally after the water weight drops off. My husband kept saying how proud he was of me
2. Fri morning got up at 5:15 for my D2 run and completed it!
3. Not a chocolate fan but during TOM always crave it. Walked the length of a supermarket Wed to Fri and didnt buy anything other than my salad! Previously this was my excuse for eating whatever I want!
4. Finally worked out my homemade popcorn portion.
Love this thread!
Just read your post, sitting on the sofa watching TV, had kind of decided I wouldn't do my kettlebell training tonight, TOM and walked over 7000 steps today (this takes some doing being office based) but saw what you'd written, got up and did my workout, thanks for the prod!30 -
halfway through my planking challenge and im REALLY feeling the burn now17

Fabulous bike ride today, covered 30.5 miles. It was glorious, the sun was out, it was warm, still had a headwind but not enough to be a deterrent.
Decided to go somewhere slightly different today, I wanted to see some new lambs and the only place I'd seen pregnant sheep at the end of last year was a route I've not taken since before Christmas (mainly due to the poor weather, it takes me 10 miles from home and if the rain hits I want to be able to get home fairly sharpish).
So off I went. This is not a major road, has a bit of traffic on but I'm now used to very quiet roads, hardly any traffic, off the beaten track sort of routes (deliberately chosen). All I could see on the route I went on today were black trees and plants. I was really saddened by this, by the level of pollution we are subjecting our environment to. Despite being blackened, these poor plants are doing their hardest to so what they do in spring and there were little green shoots appearing everywhere. It wasn't good to see but I am more determined than ever to use my car as little as possible. My gym is 3 miles away and I usually go at 5am (= dark). But, as the streets are well-lit, I'm going to take the bike in future (and it will be lighter in the mornings soon); an added benefit will be that my muscles will be nicely warmed up for my strength workout. Less time in the gym, more time in the fresh air. All-round wins, I think.

Poor quality photo, sorry. But, lambs! And you can just see from the ewe how strong the wind was today
More blooms I've been riding down a long road where least half a mile of it has hawthorn trees along it (this picture isn't one of them though). Over the last couple of weeks the road has been white on both sides, no green at all, just white. Sadly the wind yesterday and today has blown most of the petals away so it all looks like confetti all over the road and banks.
Just thought it was cool!
Local swan nesting. We've lived here 5 years and last year was the first year they've had cygnets. They started out with five but only one made it to adulthood. Hopefully they'll do better this year as they are now experienced parents! I cycled past and the swan was turning the eggs over and adding dried grass to her nest. Then I took my toddler to see them, we walked 1.5 miles. We are keeping an eye on them as we want to see the babies!
And, in other news:
1) hit 39 mph down that hill today but selfish drivers got in the way again (I really must time my rides better so that I don't meet the rush hour traffic whilst going down hills.
2) the work I've been doing at the gym and cycling up the HFH have been paying off. Last year, the top speed i could physically cycle downhill before the bike took over was 19 mph. Today it was 29.4 mph. My feet/legs go round faster! My flat-level speed is increasing as well.
3) My activity tracker will soon need a smaller wrist band. Only a couple of notches to go

I don't need my largest pair of pants anymore--and for months they were the only work pants I had that were remotely comfortable!! I finally made it into the next size down - a little snug, but acceptable. I fully planned to get rid of the "fat pants" today when I got home from work, but decided I'm keeping them to put on when I feel like I haven't made progress.24

I'm really glad to be adding activities to my physical therapy routine. I cannot do much of any one exercise, but all totaled it comes to 30 minutes of working my legs now.
My weight lifting routine seems to be changing my body, too. I use the machines at the gym for about 20 minutes 3xs a week. I don't necessarily notice any difference in life yet (it's been about a month), but my back seems more firm, etc. I guess something is going on there muscle-wise. Soon, I hope I'll be able to notice a difference when carrying things, etc.
Lastly, this is scale-inspired but is definitely a non-scale victory for me: I weigh less now than I can ever remember, even as a teenager. I just always thought my body didn't really work right. But, now I can tell I'll get to exactly where I want to be, and at the rate I am going that will probably be in just a few more months. Pretty amazing!22 -
Today, I had to go to the doctor. Not only is my blood pressure better, I decided I wasn't going to miss my daily walk. I walked from the clinic, to the hospital, to the parking garage, and back. A good, brisk thirty minute walk while waiting on a prescription. Not long ago at all, I would have just sat there waiting.24

My mini and I went for our w2d1 C25K run. The app I use has this as a 1.5 mile jog/walk. We not only pushed ourselves where we "ran" (jogged) the entire 1.5 miles, but the app had a brain fart and forgot to tell us when we were done! We kept waiting to hear it because we KNEW it had to be "any second now," and it didn't ever stop! I finally looked at it, and we "ran" 1.77 miles in one go! No walking in the middle of it! This was only workout 5 of 28!

I ran.
For the first time since I was in junior high school (31 years ago), I ran. Not fast - more of a jog, and probably a funny looking uncoordinated jog - but I ran. I have been telling people for 30 years that the only time they would see me run was if zombies were chasing me. But my legs wanted to run SO BADLY that I had to let them go for it! And apparently jogging uses an entirely different set of muscles than walking, because I've been walking for a long time but today my legs hurt! It is glorious!
Yes, yes it is!8 -
On Friday, I was able to play soccer outside with my nephews without feeling absolutely winded or sore within a few minutes of starting. I played for a full hour with them before it got too chilly to keep playing - I could have kept going!23

Last Friday I met a friend I haven't seen for month for coffee. She was already sitting inside. I walked up to her & said hi, she didn't recognize me for a second. I also grew my hair long17

Just sorted through my "goal" box of clothes that were too tight last month. I gained several new shirts and some pants to add to my current wardrobe!!24

Recently I've had a big breakthrough in my running. Until a few months ago I would only run 2 to 4 miles. Even when I ran 4 miles I always had to stop at the 2 mile mark to give my legs a break for 5 or 10 minutes. Now I can run 7 or 8 miles without stopping or even slowing down. My pace has improved too. I've gone from running 11 minute miles to 9 minute miles. I can even run the first mile or two in 8 minutes!
Also, I'm very close to my second anniversary of being on this site. And I'm less than a month away from being off the diabetes drug, Metformin, for two whole years.
Life is so GOOD!52 -
Sorted through my closet and got rid of all the 'too big' clothes. The quantity of clothes left is a sad sad sight. But, it's all well combinable. I realized that I don't need to go shopping (already bought 2 dresses not long ago and still have enough jeans and blouses to put myself together). In the past, that would have been an excuse to go blow a few hundreds on clothes to compensate for my lack of self-esteem (after all, people will look at me weird if I wear the same outfits more than once within a month... right?)20

This morning, I headed to bathroom for my daily weigh-in, noticed in the mirror my abs are showing even though I was relaxed and not even flexing my belly. It was a good moment31

I had surgery in December, and was cleared for exercise in January. I reset my Fitbit step goal to be more realistic for me, starting back at 3500. As soon as I hit that 10 times, I increased my goal by 500. As I kept hitting goals, I kept increasing by 500 for awhile, and then 1000.
Today, I realized I have finally "earned" my daily goal of 10,000 steps in a day! Happy dances add steps and burn calories!! I'm going to keep trying to increase my goal, too!39 -

I can't do this . . . I don't have any clothes that are too small for me anymore as I'm smaller than I've ever been (including as a teenager). I have to alter the ones that are too big now

That's an awesome NSV, @Madwife2009
I have a few things that do fit but would still look fine if they were a bit looser, and maybe three pairs of pants that don't fit yet (still carrying a lot of belly fat). Other than that, there are only three "goal" dresses (four if I count my wedding dress) that should fit when I lose another 15lbs or so, and that's it. I'm definitely going to have to learn to alter my clothing. Hope I find a job soon, though, I really need a new bra!!5 -

My wedding dress is like a marquee on me now Luckily it was handmade (by me) and is very easy to alter, should I ever feel the need to wear it again (highly unlikely). Once I hit goal weight I shall have to try it on again, just because.
