Lisa, couch 25k is a training program that gets you running. You walk for a minute run for a min. I don't know the exact, but that is basically what it is.

    http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

I am in. I am going to do this running in place though. I tried it outside and I am just too heavy and it hurts me. But when I do it running in place like on a small trampoline I think I can do it. Cogirl has the same issues as me and I think she is doing hers on the Elliptical.

Thank you, running in place in the house sounds good, I'm going to try that too. It is already so hot outside.

Awesome! Glad you girls are on board with us! I know we can do this! Even if you can only do it for a few minutes, at least you are trying. I did the C25K day one a few weeks ago & only lasted 10 minutes!:noway: I'm determined sometime next week I will finish all of day one at one try!

Hey, ladies, Solandra here; I'm 38, newly a home owner, newly married, newly a step-mother, and an IT Help Desk monkey, mostly sitting at my desk for 9-11 hours a work day.

That said, when possible, I get out to walk at lunch time, I just bought a Craftsman 18" Reel Mower (which I enjoy more than a "powered" mower), and right now I'm alternating front yard and back yard each week. We have 2 cats and 3 dogs, a budding photography business, and not enough time in the day.

My goals for each week include 80-100 oz/water/day, 30 min walks 3-5 days a week, sticking to my 1lb/week calorie goal and not looking too often at the scale. We've had some roadbumps (not setbacks) recently, and while my beloved husband is still loosing, I've stalled out.

Glad to be here, and thank you, ladies!

Hi! I'm 48 and it looks like the oldest to join up so far! But at least I qualify just a little longer! lol I've been overweight all my life. My highest weight was 264. In 2002 I had gastric bypass and lost down to 167 but I let myself slip back into old habits and eventually crept back up to 211. After seeing my blood glucose levels creep back up and getting more and more depressed I decided to do something. Started working on it in March and found this site in early April.

My very short term goal is to get below 180, 2 lbs to go.
Long term goal is to reach 150 for once in my adult life and maybe even a bit lower. So I've got about 31 more lbs to go. I'm just about halfway there.

I've used nothing but the Walk away the Pounds workout DVD's (I have lots) but do them religously. Maybe not every day but every day that I can manage. I'm trying to keep it up to at least 50 miles a month. It's a little harder since I went back to work. I was unemployed in March so I had lots more time.

I've tried some of the other workouts like the 30 day shred but just couldn't do it. So for now I'm sticking with my WATP as long as they keep working.

. . . and I'm married to a very supportive wonderful husband and have a 17 year old son. My son is overweight too and I keep trying to get him to join in but no success yet.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone here.

I love seeing so may of us in our forties dealing with the same issues! It makes me feel like I am not alone. I am for sure the heaviest of all of us, but I am determined to get this weight off. I kind of have a mini goal of losing 100 pounds by my birthday July 17th, which I think I was on track with until May hit. I really blew it in May. I lost one pound total. No one's fault but my own. But I am a teacher who is on vacation now that school is out and I want to make my goal or be close so badly!

With that said, I am thinking about joining our community fitness center. *AHHH!* Ok had to let that out. LOL I HATE exercising, especially in front of skinny people! But I am thinking the community fitness center is the best way to go because I get access to the pool. For some reason I don't care at all what people think of me in the pool. LOL I might be brave enough to join tomorrow, we'll see. I am so scared! That is pretty sad, isn't it?

I agree, I hated exercising as well and didn't want to do it at the fitness center with all the skinny-mini's, but however was pleasantly surprised, especially in my water aerobics class in the pool....I am actually one of the smallest ones in the class!
Also you have to look at it this way....most people at the gym, etc tend to be very encouraging if they see you there all the time. I get lots of compliments for my commitment. They realize you have made the right choice & are where you need to be. So don't worry about what other people think, you ARE where you need to be! :drinker:

I'm going to do C25K at the end of the year. I'm in FL & it's just too hot to run... and I don't like running on a treadmill. When I was in college, I ran 2-3 miles every night & that was nearly my entire fitness routine. I would love to be able to run comfortably again.

I'm doing the Wii EA Sports Challenge right now & love it. It's 30 days, but I'm going to do the 45 day one next. I also have a home gym... which is nice... my favorite piece of equipment is the rower. I used to love my elliptical, but I had pneumonia a month ago and tried to use it when I was recovering... it didn't go well at all. It's almost like I'm scared to use it again. Granted it's only been a month since I had pneumonia, but my lungs still can't handle it when my heart rate gets high. So, I've just been doing light cardio and my heart rate usually doesn't go over 130 ish.

Other than that... tomorrow I'm going to start the sit-up, squat & push-up challenge.

Selbyhutch, I am in. I'll let you know what I am doing tomorrow.

blue, I think joining the community gym and getting into the water is a wonderful idea. I know you can come close if not right on that 100 pound mark by your birthday. Good lUck with that.

aterner, I have not seen a 60 group, but I have seen a 50+ group. Either way welcome to mfp.

By the way blue, I so love your little quotes at the bottom of your ticker. My absolute fave is "maybe the hokie pokie is what's all about"  I am so glad that you are here .

Thanks, Momma! I'm glad I'm here, too.

Oooh Selby, you throw out a pretty hefty challenge there, kiddo. I think I will try it, though! Modifying everything, unfortunately, because of my bad knee; but hey, you only live once, right? Just if I don't come back on here by Tuesday someone call 911 for me!

Lisa, good job getting back on track.

    Oooh, challenges!

I've printed the booklets, I'll probably start with the pushups and squats, I'm working on reading through the material now.

I mowed the front yard on Saturday morning, really thinking about getting out to do the back yard tonight after dinner, since it's light out so late, and it's a good social thing to do with the dogs (they think I'm patrolling, so they come out patrolling with me).

On track today for my water.

    Good morning gals..

Great to see everyone this morning. I had a busy weekend I managed to get the upstairs cleaned pretty well and the stairs shampooed (took me about 2 hours on the stairs). Now today my goal is to get the basement done. We really don't use the finished basement much other than that is where my workout room and office are so, it should not be too bad. Then I am hopefully going to get some more paint touching up done.

Did week 6 day 1 of C25k (on the elliptical) this morning and I am feeling pretty good about it!

I will start the sit ups challenge (but, I am going to do it on an exercise ball because of issues in my sacral from a car accident years ago) Strengthening my core will be a good thing!

Well, I should get off of the computer and get my butt in gear!
I will check back in later!

Good Morning Ladies or I should say good almost early afternoon. Just got done with Kinder Camp for my son. It was boring for me but I think he had a good time.'

Okay, I am in on the squat challenge and I will add the other challenges in as I go. I am also going to start couch 2 5k today. I will be mowing my front lawn! Solandra, you made me laugh I had a vision of a group of dogs pacing back in forth behind the lawn mower.

Okay, I am really struggling to get my self into gear for exercise today. I think I may set some goals so that I feel like I have to do it, because I told you all about it.

    Goals for June 7th

    1. couch 2 5k week 1 day 1
    2. Begin squats challenge
    3. Drink 80 ounces of water ( I have 32 ounces down, 48 to go)
    4. Stay within calories.

I have 2 short walks in on my breaks @ work today so far.

When I get home I'm going to start C25K Day 1 and hopefully get a bike ride in as well as long as the rain holds off.
If not, I'm going to do some house cleaning!

Here's to a happy Monday, everyone! :drinker:

Do you get breaks @ work? I take a walk during both my breaks, and occasionally on my lunch as well. Since I try to bring my lunch everyday and can eat at my desk, I can sometimes walk the entire 1/2 lunch break. I also saw someone else that posted when they go to the bathroom they try to do wall pushups & some stretches, etc. Also taking as many walks around your workplace as you can, like getting up to go get water, then go to the bathroom a bit later, then go get a copy off the machine, etc things like that. Hope that gives you some ideas. Oh another thing...I park as far away from the door as possible so I get just that little bit extra walking in!

Well I started Day 1 C25K again...this time I made it 18 minutes! Last time I only made it 10! Gonna give it a shot again tomorrow. Hopefully I can finish it this time!

    Good night everyone! Kelly

I'm exhausted! Three hours up and three hours back to visit the Amish in Illinois. I had a great time. Had no idea the Amish were good bakers, and fell prey to some pretty delicious little desserts. :embarassed: Will talk more tomorrow - I am beat!
