Ugh! This article fired me up! What this woman is teaching her child is that all accountability for the food we CHOOSE to put in our bodies lies with the companies who make it. I enjoy eating McD's once in a while and I won't stop. It is my choice and my body and I am intelligent enough to make that choice! How dare this woman insinuate that I am not in control of my own actions.

Sure, treat your kids to mcdonalds once and a while, big deal?

It's an issue though when thats all they are eating - fatty, processed foods.

Take some damn responsability for yourself and your children.

^^ THIS. Also remember, most McD's have playgrounds for your children to play after they eat. I'd much rather take a child to McD's and let them play on the playground for 30 minutes after, then feed them pizza rolls and corn dogs and let them watch TV all day.

Don't let that fool you! Those playgrounds are a marketing ploy to have your child scream to stop there. There are playgrounds mostly in inner city mcdonald's, not in more affluent areas. It is not only a way to get your kid in there, but to get you to stay and keep getting more food. It is disgusting. Yes, there is always personal accountability, but don't give McD a bunch of credit for being socially responsible.

I have never taken my kids to mcdonald's. I also don't let them smoke. I personally don't see the difference.

It is junk food. How is it NOT junk food?

I agree. We all know cigarettes are bad for us and wouldn't give them to children. Mac D's and all it's counterparts are high in fat, sugar and salt, it's highly processed garbage. Excessive consumption will lead to diabetes, stroke and heart attacks. It should have a health warning on the box.

    LOLerskates.

Fearmonger much? And looks like you eat plenty of highly processed things as well

I don't mind activism. I believe in equality, marriage for everyone, etc. What I don't like is when extremism is used to try to convert thinking. I'm for animal rights, I just don't think bombing a testing lab or throwing paint on peoples fur coats is a good way to show one supports it. Oh and using children to try and get that point across.

I had McDonald's maybe once a month as a kid and played on their playgrounds and I turned out ok. I'm just saying don't blame McDonald's, parents make choices for their kids to either eat or not eat there. McDonald's employees are just trying to collect a paycheck like everyone else.

I don't typically allow my daughter to eat McDonalds, but I am also not going to allow her to blast the CEO of McDonalds. It is MY responsibility to teach my daughter healthy eating habits.

With that being said, I would not freakin' have a heart attack if she was in a situation where the only thing to eat is McDonalds. Everything in moderation.

I'd rather eat Chick Fil'a

I'm taking my son to Mickey D's after his baseball game tonight for a Happy Meal and Milkshake. Some of my fondest memories as a kid were my Dad taking me there after my games.

Did I get overweight because of that? No. I'm just lazy and I love beer more than pants.

    Suck it, angry kids.

If parents want to use their children as a PR tool, it is fine with me. But as for McDonald's "tricking" people to eat at their place, that is a load of crap. No one wanders into a McDs confused on the value of the food and if they do they have not been paying attention to life and will most likely die by walking into traffic on accident.

If folks don't want their kids to eat a McDs, then do what I do ….. Don't take them. Don't want them to eat the sugary cereals advertised on kids show …. Don't buy it. It is not rocket science.

    This is the part that got to me;
"McDonalds faced a lawsuit in 2010 over marketing processed foods loaded with salt and fat to children through the use of toys and cartoon characters, which the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) calls deceptive, and a main driver of the childhood obesity epidemic in the U.S."

Yes, it's cartoon characters that make kids fat... not the lifestyle that their parents introduce them to.

i think her mom made her say those things.....i was behind a lady at the store and her kid asked for candy and her mom said "no candy is made with bugs" and she was serious, she scared her kid.

That's one way to deter them. Actually, shellac which is what makes candies (like jelly beans) shiny on the outside. Shellac is made from a bug secretion. Also, there are some food colorings that are made from dried and ground up bugs....true story.

    Ridiculous.

    From the article:
“McDonald’s is the stranger in the playground handing out candy to children,” CSPI litigation director Stephen Gardner said in a press release. “McDonald’s use of toys undercuts parental authority and exploits young children’s developmental immaturity—all this to induce children to prefer foods that may harm their health. It’s a creepy and predatory practice that warrants an injunction.”
LOL! Are you kidding me??? So because children aren't smart enough to make responsible decisions for themselves, we blame McDonalds, rather than the parents/guardians who are supposed to be the ones making the decisions until the children are old enough to be taught how to make them responsibly?! So flippin' stupid.

Is it just me, or is there a bit of irony involved with using a 9 year old hand puppet to complain that McDonalds is using advertising to kids to make parents bring the kids in to McDonalds?

Complain about using kids by using kids.

Lol, my kid doesn't want to eat when we go into a McDonald's. She wants to play. I have to FORCE her to eat. You can pick the better choices while eating there, but McDonald's marketing to kids is no different than what cereal or toy companies do. I see cell phones being more a social danger to kids than a McDonald's playground.

I'm pretty sure the exact same things were said about the tobacco industry. They stopped using cartoon camels/cowboys to advertise in the late 80's, right? Once enough people die from obesity related illnesses, it will change. Unfortunately, too many people do not eat it in moderation and do not teach their children healthy habits because they, themselves, do not know any better. If everybody was already doing that, it would be a non-issue.

We all know the toys and the playground are used to "entice" children to asked/bug/annoy their parents to let them have Mcd's but as a parent if I don't want to, then I don't. My child may kick, scream, demand, cry or whatever tantrum he can throw at me, if I say no...then it's no. I eat Mcd's and other fast food, now that I'm trying to be healthy (try is the operative word) I'm not going to blast Mcd's for selling the food. If and when I decide not to eat fast food again, I'm still not going to blame them because I used to eat and ultimately it's a personal choice.

Can't blame McD's when people are paying for the food! Sure, kids might want it, but it's the parents that go in and buy it! Plus they DO have healthy options! I get the grilled chicken salads, and only use half of the salad dressing... In all, like 450 calories? and it's more filling than four mcdoubles!
