Cynthia ... I hope you realize my "pull yourself up the bootstraps" is about eating and not any of the other situations in your life ...

Alison ... so sorry your daughter has selective memory ... she should not have sent such a nasty text!

Still snowing this morning. Lots to do. I called off work yesterday so have to go in today sometime to get ready for Sunday (I work at our church). My husband will probably go in with me by the looks of the roads.

    Have a good day ladies!

So very Sorry Jane you were good to her until the end.

Well as for me I had a lazy week. Have to get back with moving more and losing more.
I know I can do this. I have the know how and the want to. Just need to put it all together and in practice. Only been getting about 3,000 + on my fit bit not enough steps but hard when you can barely move let alone try walking.
So today I'm going to work on getting 4,000 but it's still to cold to go walking outside. -25 right now.

Good luck to all and make it a great weekend
    See you all lighter

good morning ladies. I am having trouble withbeing able to edit the text.
I don't know if it is my phone or the site. Anyhow,I enjoy reading your text.its sounds likemost of you have known each other for a long time.
I spent the last 3 days visiting my daughter and eating my comfort foods. I still try to stay with in my 1200 calorie range.I eat mac and cheese with hot dogs in it and peppermints frosted chocolate cake. We had Chinese on Wednesday night andstopped for a bacon double cheeseburger with french fries on the way home. Needless to say I was in great fear this morning during my way in.sorry I still can't correct the spelling or errors. I was very excited when the scale did notgo up.

I'm not sure if this text will B falling length or not because last time I wrote it only sent one third of my response.so I am going to stop now insaine see what happens!

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding

Good Saturday morning, ladies. I hope everyone is staying warm and safe in this deepfreeze. I saw on the news, so many multi car pile ups on the freeways. It is so sad that the weather reeks such havoc.

*Toni, congrats on Blueberry. Hope you will share a picture soon. I'm glad all are healthy and doing great.

*Sylvia, I loved the jokes and DH liked the one about the driving instructions. lol I vote to keep slowly looking at coats until you find what you like. This time of year the prices should keep going down.

*Michele, I'm glad you can exchange the DVD. Let us know what you get.

*Stormy007, welcome to the group. Let us know what kind of support you want and you'll get it. And yes, you are the only one that will be disappointed if you don't do this for yourself.

*Kim, your grand children sound great. I know you must be proud.

*Joyce, I'm glad the leggings are working. My DH always says, if you keep your kidneys warm, the whole body will feel warmer. Who knows?

*Terri, I'm so sorry you got the flu. Wish we could help more than wishing you the best. Keep taking care of yourself and don't try to get back to work too soon. (((((Terri)))))

*Viv, Isn't it nice to have great friends! I have to ask, "What is cuppa"?

*grandmallie, My heart goes out to you. Our children have no idea how something like that can cut to the core. You know that you did the best you could and you just have to hold on to that. She has no idea how things would have turned out if you had done things her way. You deserve to be happy too.

*Heather, I'm so glad the second pill was better. Great post on eating. Thanks.

*Jane, so sorry for your loss. It's so hard to lose a good friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you and her family.

*Beth, I think we all need to pull ourselves up by the bootstraps at times. I know that even though I stay under calories, I need a swift kick (you know where) to do more exercises. You can tell me that any time. :)

Welcome to any new people that I missed. We are glad you are with us and I hope you all become big losers.

My new word for the rest of the month is savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
I wish you all good health and happiness.

Forgot to say - Toni, many, many congrats on Bronwyn. Lovely name! Do you have Welsh ancestors?
    - Pat - fabulous photo! A concert pianist in the making? A real sweetie!

DDIL has just responded to my request to go up to London to see the DGC . We are booked in for the afternoon of Monday 19th! ! ! ! ! ! Hooray! Have to get my regular dose.

I have done my typing for 8 days in a row. o:) I was a bit shocked this afternoon when I started typing up a section that was very racy. I'd forgotten about that as I wrote it 34 years ago! I want it to go out more or less as I wrote it then, as a historical document, so I will have to just swallow my qualms. :noway: It's not as I would write it now, that's for sure. :ohwell:

Viv - wanted to say I think it is wonderful that you are so open to your friends' help and love. It shows you have a big heart.

A "cuppa" is a cup of tea. These days sometimes coffee. But mainly it refers to tea. The British panacea for all woes.

    Good morning.
    Things are good.

The 3 grateful things at the end of the day is really going well. Yesterday DH found out that a work friend passed and he was a mess all day. I was worried he couldn't come up with 3 positive grateful things.

He did though, and his third one was that Bodi came in from the kennel when DH got home and when DH opened the door to the house Bodi walked in and then did a U-Turn. He walked outside and pooped instead of running to his food dish to scarf his dinner first. You have to understand the trials and tribulations we have had with him and his "accidents" since his injury to understand how this was a thing to be grateful for.

However, the absurdity of the third item on his list didn't escape either of us and we burst into laughter laying in bed waiting to go to sleep. So instead of feel sad about his friend he and I went to sleep with extremely "Happy" feelings.

I made my first real oatmeal today. I have never made it before. My mom always did but I was a "instant" oatmeal kind of girl. It turned out great.

Well time for a walk with the Bodi Boy.

Sending Positive Happy feelings to all of you!

Jane, I'm so sorry about your friend's passing.

    Robin, Hooray for Bodi!!!

Heather-London, Hooray for typing eight days in a row!!! OOH, I want to read the racy parts!

Janet, I'm coat shopping online now, just looking though.

I'm at the studio for another hour, then we are going to the lake, hoping the pipes didn't freeze again last week when it was so cold. We went swimming this morning and when I got out of the shower and started to get dressed I realized that I had forgotten to bring a shirt! I wear my swim suit to the Y with my jeans and coat over the top, and usually toss a shirt in my bag. Oops. At least I had my coat to wear out again. I swear every time I forget something. Last time it was underwear. Hubby is threatening to make me make a checklist. Not a bad idea, really. At the studio I finished packing up my friends' artwork and breaking down the tables. I'm planning to run stuff over to Joplin Monday if the weather isn't too bad. It'll be good to get it all back to it's owners. I'm scared something will get broken.

On the way here hubby and I went to his office on campus to pick up a bookcase. He had taken one from home several years ago to use in his office, and now that they have remodeled his office (and made it smaller) he doesn't have room for it, so he's giving it to me. Yippee! I can always use more shelves. It needs a little bit of fixing, after holding his heavy books for all those years, but it'll be fine.

OK, so I have a question about the jokes. Do you ladies like the jokes, or think I should stop posting them? I'm worried that there are so many posts to read now that it's just adding to the overload. I know I'm having trouble keeping up, so you might be too. It's just more stuff to read, and sometimes they aren't that funny. Let me know what you think.

Here is the one for today:

    :)

Two guys were sitting in a double hole outhouse doing their business, when #1 gets through and pulling up his pants, a quarter falls out of his pocket and falls into the depths of the hole. As they both peer down the hole, #1 pulls out his wallet and throws a 20 dollar into the hole. "What did you do that for?" inquires #2.

#1 replies "You don't think I'm going to climb down there for a lousy quarter, do you"

    :D

    Have a great Saturday!

Savour what a great word. We should savour every bite every morsel. To make eating fun and worthwhile.

    Heather
I just read on an article in utube on water that herbal teas can count in our water intake.

    Heather
Being grateful for 3 things that happened during the day comes easy. As easy as you enjoying oatmeal or succeeding with your first time at it. Or taking the time to make a nice salad.

I'm sitting here with my great big salad. Ice burg lettuce that comes in a bag with a little carrots and cabbage. Washed a good two cups added 1/4 mixed beans tomato and strawberries. Topped with calorie wise olive oil and sun dried tomato dressing it's yummy and I must be good for at least 1/2 hour of munching. LOL.

I need to get moving to get fit bit over 4,000 steps. Should be able I'm at 1388. I'm going to do the 950 steps with the wiii sometime this afternoon. And if need to i'll walk in circles around the house.

    See you all lighter

Good afternoon all...another cold day here in Missouri. At least the high will be 32, lol.
I am going to get out there and walk the dogs.

I thought I would give you some rainbows today. First posting pic here, I hope it works. This is the view from my front porch taken some time ago. Happy Saturday.

    Hi friends!

I've been enjoying the sunshine this week - FINALLY!

Sylvia - I enjoy the jokes. My vote is "Keep them coming!"

Pip - I loved your picture. So good to put a face with the personality! Spunky!

Terri - Sorry you are sick. It is really getting around. I heard on the news that 46 states are reporting high numbers of cases.

Tina - Loved seeing Angel's picture!

Vicki - Good luck to you in the Weight Challenge

Allison - I feel so bad for you. Divorce is so difficult. Our children don't understand all the dynamics. Maybe your DD is experiencing her own pain but it's too bad she lashed out at you.

Heather - You've shared some very wise words. This is a lifestyle. I find my relationship with food has changed so much. Other things are so much more important to me now. Bronwyn's mommy is my DDIL's cousin so the little one is actually an "in-law" to me. I don't know much about her family's heritage. My roots are all British. My mother's ancestor came from England in 1640. He and his brothers were run out of England because they were members of the Church of Scotland.

Michele - Glad you got a good report

Jane - Thinking of you and your friend's family at this difficult time. It is so hard to lose a close friend.

Someone asked recently if we ate the same or different things for our meals.
I find that a Chobani Greek yogurt is perfect for me for breakfast. I can eat it in a minute and be out the door to the gym within 10 minutes of getting up. The protein holds me pretty well, too. I have about 4 different lunches I do - focusing on the protein (eggs, shrimp, tuna, or sardines). Dinner I cook fairly "plain" roasted or baked meats, chicken, fish; veggies and usually a starch (sweet or white potatoes, brown rice, Rice-o-roni)
I never have been one to enjoy researching recipes and making complicated or fancy things so this suits me (and hubby who likes food he can "rely on" and not the unknown)

Speaking of meals - it's time to fix lunch
    Love to all

    TNToni

My word for 2015 is OPPORTUNITY.

Viv, glad you are doing some social things…. I heard a definition of bully-ing that included that the “reason” for the behavior was to hurt/be mean/or to have power over another… so your friends are NOT bullies..they want the best for you.

Alison – I am so sad to hear that your DD can not see reality!!! You are so kind, you would have made your choices for the best of all. Thinking of you.

Heather in Hampshire - Thank you for wording of the eating of a variety – and picking something that works for the long haul… I like you need tons and tons of variety. But it is individual and that has been the interesting, challenging part of MFP and this tread; is to really look inward and have an honest conversation with yourself and figure out how food and food prep fit into how you want to “run” your life.. weather it is simple and similar each day or more involved and gourmet…. I am loving the learning that goes into this journey.

Jane – So sorry to hear about Melody, good thoughts to all who loved her and whose lives she touched.

Linda - is 1000 steps additional a day too big of a jump? What if you did it in 500 step increments? There is a joy and motivation that comes from completing a goal.

Marywetterlund – some of us are new, some been here for years, and some inbetween… I don’t have a smart phone so not sure how that works, but I do write in a word document, edit, and then copy and paste it into the reply spot.

Janet – fyi the kids are my GOD kids, not grandchildren, I’m single and kid free - so I dot on my one nephew and 2 god kids… but yes I am very proud.

Robin – the 3 grateful things sounds like it is great for both of you!!! So glad Bodi is doing so much better!

Sylvia - I love the jokes and need the laugh each day!

    January goals:
    Walk every day
    Log all bites everyday
Do a fun thing every week.

Oh Allison, how I want to be able to sit with you and we just cry our hearts out. I don't think my situation is as bad as yours but it has had its moments. Is your daughter going through something right now in her life that she feels like lashing out at some one, making another person the reason for what it a bad choice for her but instead of blaming herself decided to blame some one else? Huge hugs to you and a large bag of Kleenexes. What does your husband think of your ex? Could this be a way for you and your ex to bond?

Sylvia, you better keep those jokes coming!

CI figured that 'cuppa' was either a cup of tea or coffee. Silly me for not thinking that the writer was from the UK. It was like a duh moment!

Sunshine looks beautiful today. it's a big 22 degrees right now.

I've just ordered a new, taller, upright tallboy for my bathroom. Inspired by Dr Katie! ! ! ! !
Must get my bathroom supplies sorted.
It was really cheap, flat pack.

Good afternoon, all. Yoga this am--almost used the cold temp. (28) as an excuse then remembered all those on here dealing with worse and got myself out of bed and to the gym. So, thanks. Breakfast at Ihop after.....2 eggs, dry whole wheat toast and fruit, not so bad. Also remembered, thanks to Lesley and her Brian, to have a bit before leaving the house ( a Wasa with pb2) which I usually don't do.

I grew up with the word "cuppa". The adults were always having a "cuppa"..... meaning, as Heather said, tea or coffee. If one said "That's not my cuppa tea", or just "not my cuppa" it meant they didn't much care for whatever it was. Like me with the movie Into The Woods. Sorry if I confused anyone.

Toni.......Yay for Blueberry's arrival...........love the name; have read it in novels.

Kim........Your godson!!!! OMG, must be absolutely brilliant with those majors and minors! Where will he continue?

jane.........Condolences to you and Melody's family. (((((((Hugs))))))))) May you recieve all the comfort and strength you will need in the coming days.

Sylvia.......A YES vote from me on the jokes. I don't always comment but I always appreciate them.

    Jeannine........Lovely double rainbow pic!

My dear friends thank you for all the love~ it truly means alot <3
Nobody's life is easy is it?
Tracy grew up here, her friends are here, they are all or almost all college educated and getting married and having children. My dear daughter had a GIANT chip on her shoulder..she doesn't think she is smart enough, pretty enough .. she is basically isolated out there in Ohio, she would love to live back here, but because of Taliah's school she will not budge, she wants to give Tal what she doesnt have..
now that she has her license and a car things could be a bit better, but she has no friends ,goes to work maybe 20 hrs a week, and is in the house with her boyfriend and father ,both who have there own issues..She has no hobbies ,I told her why dont you look into going back to school, do something for yourself..
I cannot live her life for her.. she has to make it her own..but im sure she is depressed and cant see any way out of her situation.. all I can do is pray for her.
Yes my DH can be an A-- sometimes.
Tracy I dont if she is jealous of what we have but I am twice her age and Tom and I have worked hard for what we have. it is not going to get handed to you on a silver platter.
When I was her age,we had one car I drove my ex to work and had the car took my son up every day to spend time with my parents and his great grandma, then picked ex up and brought him home and went to work.. thats how it went, but I always tried to find a better job, make a little more money, and it always worked out..
Tracy has to find her way somehow, she quit school and my ex let her(jack a--) she finally got her GED and I took her and picked her up every night when she had class, and who took care of Tal? Grandma....
I am going to let it slide, I am not going to write her back, I will let her stew.. She knows I love her and Tal.. and I will have to be happy with that.

Stormy007: Welcome. The way to get back to us is click the star at the top of this page. When it turns golden, we’re bookmarked. Then when you open MFP click on MyDiscussions and the yellow star. You’ll get back to the spot where you left off. :flowerforyou:

Kim: I weighed every day while I was losing unless we were travelling, but not any more. I weigh every few days now, and it ends up two to three times a week. It is working out fine at this point. Weigh as often as you want/need to. :flowerforyou:

Joyce: DH talked me into leggings when I went to get a replacement jacket for the one I lost in the Denver airport. They have horizontal stripes from ankles to waist! I can’t believe I bought them. I’ve always been very self-conscious about my rear end. I look okay in them but need to find a deep freezer to sit in because they are WARM. I’ll bet you look cute in yours. :flowerforyou:

Terri: I’m so sorry you feel crummy. I recommend chicken soup for colds and flu. Maybe you can make some from your leftovers. I understand it has decongestant properties and I know it is soothing. :flowerforyou:

Viv: I love your bold names. I’m going to see if I can do it, too. It sounds like Jean and Jane are very special women and excellent friends. :flowerforyou:

Alison: I remember being critical of my mother from an early age. When I was young I was baffled by her low self-esteem. To me she was the prettiest and best mom in the family. I continued to be baffled by her low self-esteem until the day she died. Her niece was only a few years younger than mom and told me how bad things were for mom when she was growing up. Her mom, my grandmother, was mean spirited and abusive. I’m telling this story because I lacked understanding of my mom until after her death and was not as supportive as I could have been. I wonder if your daughter lacks understanding of you. It sounds as though she doesn’t have a clue. I wish you both well and hope that she learns to understand you much sooner than I learned to understand my mom. :flowerforyou:

Heather from Hampshire: I agree with every word. Some members here have chosen a very restrictive diet, but I have enough restrictions from lactose intolerance that I choose portion control as my main dietary strategy. I recommend measuring every bite and swallow, and logging it all. I’ve been basically at goal for several months now, and still log every bite. I occasionally estimate portions, now, but will measure religiously if things start getting out of hand. On another topic, I can see that you’re preparing for a trip, and I wonder how soon you will be leaving. :flowerforyou:

Jane: I’m sorry your dear friend passed on her children’s birthday. I hope it doesn’t cause them additional pain beyond the fact of her loss. Sending prayers for the family. :flowerforyou:

LinC: I can’t even imagine -25. Stay warm. :flowerforyou:

Toni: Congratulations on the birth of Blueberry. I don’t remember whether I already congratulated you, so this may be a repeat. A new baby in the family deserves repeated congratulations anyway. Bronwyn is a lovely name. :flowerforyou:

Robin: I’m happy to hear that Bodi is doing well. He’s had a rough time, and you along with him. :flowerforyou:

Horseback riding last night was awesome.  I actually got to use a bridle and bit. (She's had me using rope reins attached to a halter until now.) I wore thermal underwear underneath my jeans, was comfortably warm and ended up without any pain in my seat area. (Same jeans that caused pain last week but I did take the time to stitch down the inside seam where the legs join.) I think the warmth was an important aspect of the improvement. I was considering buying women’s bicycle shorts to wear underneath my jeans, but now I am not sure whether I need them.

I just joined a gym in the next little town down the road mainly because I miss yoga and want to add core strength exercises to my regime. I was a member there in the past and liked it then but my exercise partner moved away and I didn’t persist. They currently have yoga classes available several times a week in more than one timeslot. I look forward to getting back to the mat, and wonder how well I'll do without an exercise partner. I hope to stick to it.

    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week.
    3. Have fun every day.

    5. Eliminate alcohol.
    6. Monitor sleep.

    A little more -
When I mentioned my"food plan" I failed to say that I do a basic 1200 cal diet (Dr. ordered) and sometimes eat back some of my exercise calories. I aim for 120-150 total carbs and 60-90 protein a day. No foods or food groups are off limits. This allows me to enjoy food without feeling enslaved. I have a dear friend who keeps going on severely low carb diets and gets used to high fat, high protein. Then she gives in the the carb craving and regains all she loses. She constantly talks about going on and off her diet. She seems so consumed with food (either indulging or restricting). I think her outlook is what is wrong for so many of us. Food is delicious but it is fuel for our bodies so we can enjoy the important things in life. I have finally embraced this outlook and it is working for me.

Hello gang! We arrived at the lake house, checked the pipes for leaks, then went to the dam to walk with the dogs. The temperature was 37F, but the strong wind blowing across the ice made it super cold! I had my scarf and gloves, but no hat, and breathing (even thru my scarf) hurt so bad I had to turn back. Now I'm sitting in my recliner under a blanket in front of the space heater. The house has not warmed up yet. You northern ladies must have super powers to survive the winters!

Hubby went down to take pictures of the Canada geese who were clustered around our dock and saw a bald eagle swoop down and snatch up a bird. He was upset because it was apparently the perfect photo op and his camera malfunctioned. I wanted to get him a new one for Christmas, but he nixed that idea. There were also five big white swans down there with the geese. We haven't seen swans at our lake before, so I was impressed with those photos. I don't think I would have liked seeing the eagle kill the goose nearly as much.

Bruno disappeared once we got here, and it turned out that he went up the spiral stairs and was sitting happily at the top. Hubby decided he was stuck, so he took the leash upstairs and walked Bruno down the outside steps and back into the house. As soon as he took the leash off, Bruno made a mad dash back to the spiral steps and was part way back up before hubby caught him. Silly little dog. Now the baby gate is closed.

Toni, the baby's name is very pretty, but I hope the nickname Blueberry sticks. That is really adorable! I have tried a few times to eat yogurt, but just can't gag it down. Is the Greek style any less like curdled milk? Are there some flavors that are better than others?

Jeannine, what part of Missouri are you from? I'm very close to Joplin.

Beth, are you snowed in? How much did you get?

Well, I hope you are all staying warm! Have a great evening.

    Sylvia

Kim.......I was so blown away by your godson's achievements that I forgot to answer your question. Orig. we were planning on selling them for $15, when they came so late, we were told to sell for $12. But members pay $10 and that's what I've been buying and selling for just to get rid of them. I have a bunch set to mail out this week to friends and relatives, my DD took 3 for her bosses at the pool, and 3 of my light aerobics class friends bought.......so, we are puttng a dent in the total. But I would still like to say a few choice words to the person who held up the approval as we had several events in Nov. and early Dec. where we could have sold the darn things. Grrrrrr......

Alison........I think by not replying, you are doing the right thing.........I keep thinking of Margaret's......"Just because you see the hook.......... quote.

stats for the day... feel like i'm getting sick - boooo
    - ski machine 30min, 30min, cardio set, 1.41mi
    - jump rope fast- single/double, scissors, backwards.

@ jane so sorry for your loss. my heart goes out to you.
@ to the person that said that she couldn't eat the same thing every day cuz it would drive her crazy... i know right? i thought so too! but i love what i eat so i guess repeats don't bother me and i can just hit "copy yesterday" on the food part, lololol!!!
@ oh that pic of me and my husband with the kids and the medal? - yeah, i grew out my hair for one reason only. i LOVE the low maintenance of it but going back home changed that. i went back for a wedding and a lot of the people don't see me for a stretch of a time and one nephew said "you kind of remind me of gramma" (my mom) and i was like, oh no... then another niece said the same thing, then i said, "OH HELLO NO" that does it, i'm growing it back out. i DON'T want to look like my mother....
@ and yes, mom started out young, we are the first generation americans, parents were born in mexico and i can say she is a true "wetback" she did cross the river!! lololol. she was with my dad when she was 13, had my oldest brother when she was 14. we are all a year apart or skip a year. my oldest brother taught her how to drive and when they were out in the fields, people used to think they were either brother and sister or married. she left my dad when i was about 3 so i didn't really know him. she did what she had to do but she was a rough mom, not loving at all. i was scared of her, she was mean and cruel. i'm alive and we have a relationship now. i finally told her how i felt about her and let her know she was mean but that's another book. i gotta do laundry and stuff now... have a good one.

Sunday here and my Rest, Re-feed and Walk day as Brian advised. Stan made the usual bacon, egg, tomato and hash browns. Rack of lamb roast for dinner. Taking cheese and onion sandwich and muesli bar for lunch. The dog LOVES her walk along the River Road in Ulverstone and gives Stan and I time to talk.
I will NEVER go back to Ulverstone when Mildred beagle dies, too many memories, She is 12 now and full of lumps and bumps. She is happy dog but can no longer walk far. Stan took her fishing on our river last evening and she fell asleep so he took a photo of her.
I did a 5.5 mile walk yesterday and MFP said 996 cals NO it was 438 cals. i keep a not in my diary and on my spreadsheet. Daft MFP
I do all my exercise in a morning, shower, clean house and iron. Afternoon is for ME to work in garden, sit and read in sunshine, cook or do writing in diary. I grow mostly David Austin roses for the perfume and the rose bushes are all blooming now.
