Given Calvin's record for steering the toboggan, Hobbes made the prudent choice...

Calvin's offense wasn't as strong as Hobbes' defense...

Seems cruel,.. but times when there's a lack of personal space for a while, i look forward to them going to work and school.
Kids aren't great at boundaries; they have to be taught that.

Imagine being a teacher and having to deal with a Calvin... or worse, a classful of Calvins...

This WAS me.. at school.. not sure who i really feel sorry for now i am a teachers aid.. lol
My first couple of years were in a one-room school house with kids from grade 1 thr 6. By the end of my second year, I'd completed all of the math resources available to the grade 6 level. In the third year, they consolidated the little country schools into a regional elementary facility. When the teacher tried teaching me 3rd grade math... let's just say I was bored.

I'm not sure but it sounds like Calvin's dad is playing hardball...

I had a similar issue... my older brother had a learning disability and mom spent hours helping him learn to read as I sat nearby and soaked it all in. I had read Heidi and Black Beauty and other classics before I started school so 'See Dick and Jane' wasn't going to cut it. Mom got permission to allow me to go to the school library and check out books from any grade level so I could read those while others worked on their page of the Dick and Jane books.

The teacher was old school; grade 3 meant grade 3... In short order I was "identified" as being a problem child. Nowadays I likely would have been medicated. Back then, they said they were going to put me into the "special" class. My previous teacher got wind of that and asked for an assessment from the regional psychologist. Oddly enough, I wasn't "slow" (which they had resources for) but actually kind bright (which they didn't have resources for) so they moved me to a different teacher and, yes, I spent more time than most in library.

Being bored at school doesn't tend to work out well - I was branded a trouble maker when we moved and the school system was different, in reality I was just fed up re-learning things I knew. What is a teenager going to do with time on their hands in a classroom?

Calvin looks a bit too happy to be retiring to be an actual six year old...
