Generally if something is microwave safe (probably only without the lid on for gentle reheating) it should be ok in the dishwasher. I hand wash all my boxes though because I find if I keep sticking it in the dishwasher it slowly warps and the lid eventually won't fit properly.
Can you take a legible picture of the bottom of the box with the care details? If I can't read it, there are definitely others who can
Also, a note on BPA in plastic; it is only ever present in clear plastic because it's used to make the plastic not go cloudy over time. Any BPA free advertising on a solid colour box is a marketing gimmick. Also, the dangers of BPA in plastic have pretty much been debunked unless you're planning to eat the damn stuff.2 -

The main two pointers I would give are:
- Use lots of colourful foods; if everything is brown, it's never going to look that pleasant, even if it's tasty.
- Think about how you're placing things in the box. Try to make it look aesthetic and in a way that it will hopefully look the same when you open it as when you finished packing it.
If you're not getting cutters or anything like that, have a look at some youtube videos on simple vegetable cutting. Some of the things you can do to vegetables with a paring knife is amazing.2 -

Here's my bento for today! Some brown rice with furikake (Japanese rice seasoning), cucumber, and raspberries!
If you're on a 1200 calorie diet like me, a small lunch like this will really fill you up but won't waste your precious calories!

I have two BentoGo's from amazon and I love them! I out my main course in the lower, largest section. Then my fruits/veggie soup/etc go in the top! I find it easiest if I group things by how/if they need to be reheated.0

Sorry, been summer, so no bentos here, well not many. These are mine from yesterday, my lunch and my sweet. Was trying to do some pre-logging yesterday, might start to try more, husband lunches will start next week, as he has been coming home. Latin stew, pastrami, and Italian bread with butter.
& Sort of french toast with Vermont maple syrup, powered sugar, pumpkin butter and dark chocolate chips
I am probably going to make some tsubu-an to go with my "egg bread".5 -
Well, shame on me for not having a bento to post for so long. I've been doing leftovers lunches for a while, but am trying to get back into my bento habit again to control my lunch calories a little more. Back to old style images it is!
The picture shows everything I have to eat during my work day, which includes breakfast, lunch and snacks:
Breakfast, 292 Cal
- 90g Banana (85 Cal)
- Breakfast cookie (207 Cal)
Lunch, 429 Cal
- 120g rice (190 Cal)
- 3 beef & pork meatballs (164 Cal)
- 160g Mixed blanched vegetables: snow peas, broccoli, carrot, radishes, yellow capsicum, shiitake mushroom, zucchini (61 Cal)
- Furikake (9 Cal)
- Umeboshi (3 Cal)
Snacks, 229 Cal
- 2 Vanilla Oreo Thins (64 Cal) There's 4 in the box, but I shared with coworkers ^_^
- 135g of Goat's milk yoghurt with 70g mixed berries (165 Cal)
The yoghurt might not get eaten. I have an issue with Casein protein giving me stomach cramps and gas and can't have a lot of regular dairy, so I'm giving goats milk yoghurt a try to see how that goes. If it doesn't go well, then it's not exactly all going to get eaten3 -
And here is Tuesday's set menu:

Oh, I'm so glad you bumped this, I keep forgetting to make bentos! Shame on me! I even work in an office pretty much every day right now with no fridge to keep my food that I bring cool in which is the DEFINITION of bentos! I really need to get back into it. @mangrothian, your bentos looks beautiful and delicious as always!!0

As always, I still think that you enjoy eating pretty food over hastily assembled stuff (which is why people go gaga over the fancy looking cupcakes even when they usually don't taste that nice).

I love this container set. The cylinder that has the chili in it actually sits in a Thermos style container that's designed to keep your food in it warm until lunchtime and comes in the most awesome cooler bag.2 -

Ooh, that sounds delicious - a lot of calories, but delicious! I think I need one of these! Did yours have a filling? And can you recommend a good recipe so I can try it?0 -
My parents picked them up from a bakery on their way down for a visit. I mean, it's cake, so it's not exactly going to be low in calories. Mine was unfilled, but if it's filled with jam, its generally only a really small amount. It may be a northern Aussie thing to fill them with cream, because I've never seen that where I live.

Thanks! (Lots of yummy-looking cake recipes on that site...!) This one looks a bit messy to make, although I might try it anyway, but I noticed there was another one for a "Lamington slice" that looks easier... maybe I'll give that one a go next weekend, for a treat when my son's friend stays over!0 -
Today's lunch is similar to yesterday's, just replacing the tamagoyaki with an egg that was marinated with a devilled yolk (I used a tiny bit of kewpie and siracha)
I'd also like to say that this is probably the cutest bento set that I have. It fits into a custom vertical cooler bag.

I honestly don't use Bento because it feels like a fad and there are more affordable options for portion control. 1st I have an Igloo lunch box that helps prevent spills and keeps food especially if you are commuting. Secondly if you are looking for a BPA free product that is sectioned into portions you can buy Snapware or Rubbermaid bulk boxes. The big advantage of that for you is that you could premake your lunches for a few days.0

I'm sorry, this message seems so dismissive - I must be misunderstanding your intent, Monisha. I follow this thread not because I need to pack a lunch for work (I don't) but because creating bento meals seems to be very steeped in mindful eating. I get enjoyment and inspiration for my own mindful eating process here. The thought and care people take to create these cute little meals is more than just the decorative aspects. Although the way I see it the appearance is a plus. Pleasure taken in nutritious food is a positive good, and that pleasure is all the greater for engaging several sensory modes at once - visual, taste, texture, even scent. The way I remember my junior high school health classes more decades ago than I care to admit, presentation IS part of creating well-balanced meals, varied colors and textures of foods often signal a wide range of macro- and micro-nutrients present for optimal nutrition. There have been a number of people in the thread making use of ordinary Tupperware or Gladware because that is what they have available, and still the thoughtfulness they put into preparing their meals shines through. Meal preparation days in advance has advantages in mindful eating for some people, but thankfully we are not yet required to live in lockstep so it is ok to find enjoyment in knowing that others take a more immediate approach to mindfulness.
