Food intolerances - spill 'em!

I’ve been wheat intolerant for the last 30 years (I suspect it was triggered by taking very large doses of antibiotics I was prescribed after my daughter was born). The last couple of years I’ve been eating a lot of bought gluten-free breads and I’m now thinking that these might have been the reason for my weight gain over the last two years. I’d be interested to hear if anyone else has had this happen to them too.
I rarely eat gluten free bread, I had two gluten free sandwiches over the weekend AND OMG was I sick, I bloated out like you would not believe and overnight I gained 5LBS!!!! It was all the salt and sugar (which is quite common in gluten free breads) Crazy, I hate the taste of it anyway but we were trying to find something we could pack when we go camping, well that is off the list forever.0 -
Gluten (Celiac) allergies to peanuts, hazelnuts and almonds. And intolerances to dairy, rice, corn and vegetable oils. And I have Crohn's so I can't eat any type of nuts or seeds, and veggies are not always good.
you poor thing, what can you eat? Being celiac has been enough for me I cannot imagine what you deal with on a day to day basis.0 -
Potatoes, eggplant, and tomatoes. Wah!!!! I was alerted to these intolerances abt 3 years ago so at age 32. My guts definitely let me know if I've had too much potato or tomato, rather violently.
I'm the same, apart from egg plant which I don't eat often enough to notice.
Courgette seems to be a new one for me and caused me to lose two days off work.
Tomatoes since last year ( at mother's 70th birthday bash, knocked the pensioners flying in my mad dash to get to a toilet) and for years potatoes, pasta and bread if consumed in huge quantities causes my IBS to flare up.
I avoid peanuts because my throat and chest becomes itchy and I wheeze. I really miss peanut M&ms.
The doctor said I shouldn't self diagnose and said it was asthma and prescribed an inhaler. ????
I don't have asthma and I don't eat peanuts.0 -
Gluten, wheat, sugar, some dairy (cheese is ok), peanuts. I'm also insulin resistant so "white" foods/starchy veggies are out. I've spend the last 2 years overhauling my diet...not fun (I really miss some foods) but I feel better.0

I was advised by a friend to read the book - "Eat 4 Your Blood type" and let me tell you it has completely changed the way I eat and how I feel. So many of the items listed for my blood type I had already figured out were an issue and it just confimed it but boy there were so many more. I have tried ever so often to introduce something back in that I "thought" was ok and boy was I wrong. I use to get horrible bloating and water weight gain almost daily now it might be only once every few weeks. For instance I can't eat chicken, wheat, corn products, shrimp, pomegranite, peanut butter to name a few. Now when I eat something I'm not supposed to my reaction can vary from bloating to vomiting no fun but I feel so much better. I am also allergic to any kind of melon. It is so bad that if I even try to eat some I can't "reach" the itch in my ears and throat - I've been known to use the fork to scratch the roof of my mouth, so of coarse you won't catch me eating any melon now.0

I haven't been diagnosed, but if I eat bell peppers (particularly green), I will burp them for DAYS. I just avoid them if I can, and pick them out of my food if I can't.0

Sushi! I'm not sure if it was food poisoning or intolerance, but I'm not willing to try it again and find out. I've also had the seaweed rolls without the raw fish and those don't usually go over well either. The raw fish thing though was TERRIBLE and I never want to be in that state again.
I've also yakked up spinach for no reason. Cooked spinach tastes nasty, but apparently raw spinach, which doesn't taste like much, makes me hurl too. I can only eat it if it is mixed in with a generous amount of cheese or eggs or both (like spinach cheese dip, or quiche or something of that nature.)
Certain types of beans and fiber supplements cause discomfort and excessive flatulence, but I think that's probably normal...0 -
Lactose intolerant my whole life, and I developed soy intolerance & gluten intolerance in the past few years. I rarely eat yogurt/kefir (makes my nose run), sometimes I eat cheese, and I avoid everything else dairy. If I slip up with wheat, I feel groggy, get a headache, and end up with a wheat/gluten hangover the next day... And I avoid soy at all costs.0

Wowbutter is a fantastic alternative to peanut butter if you can eat soy Just wanted to say that first.
I have allergies to all nuts and certain dairy proteins (lips and cheeks swell so this one is minor)
I have intolerance to caffeine, lactose and am starting to notice I don't do well with gluten... after a long period of not eating it and introducing it back I noticed my body doesn't handle it well at all which sucks... but I like to think that in the long run my allergies and intolerances will somehow lead me to a healthier lifestyle lol.0 -
Bad bad lactose intolerance since junior high (aka forever ago). Thankfully there are quite a few lactose free products available these days (in Finland).
I also have an intolerance or allergy to wheat, barley, rye, rice, kiwifruit and citruses. I eat barley and rice sometimes, but not much. I use whey protein powder and so far I haven't had problems with it (knock on wood). I can't eat pasta/macaroni/spaghetti/wheat noodles at all, and I seldom eat bread. Kiwifruits are also a big no. As for citruses, I eat tangerines once in a blue moon.0 -
I'm in the middle of an elimination diet to determine what I'm sensitive to. So far - gluten and quinoa for sure.
I don't like milk or dairy - it always feels "stuck" in my throat and makes me cough and clear my throat for hours, which I hate.
There are other things that I just avoid but I'm not sure I'm sensitive to - soy, etc.0 -
Too much wheat gives me symptoms like I have a UTI. Pretty uncomfortable.
I can't imagine having to give up peanuts. Maybe pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds would be a reasonable substitute.0 -
I actually just did a food intolerace test! Was having terrbible digestive issues and my friend who is also a dr suggested the Paleo diet. I dropped 6 lbs in two weeks! So then we followed up with the blood work and discovered I am gluten and dairy intolerant! (hence the amazing success of the Paleo diet!) I also discovered I have issues with High Frustose corn sugar, garlic, chicken, and quite a few other things as well. So here I am one month later tracking and eating and finally back to working out. No more exhaustion or migraines and normally digesting food with a flat tummy again!!!0

Severe wheat intolerance.
Doc's hesitant to say I'm full-blown Celiac until I get a full testing for it, but she thinks I have Celiac Disease. If I eat more than a cup of anything containing wheat I get suuuuper unbearably severe stomach pains & won't go number two for a week...however I don't have AS bad issues with barley & rye, which is why current diagnosis is just "severe wheat intolerance" as opposed to Celiac's.
My only full-blown allergy, besides outdoor stuff, is latex...which is extremely inconvenient & why I have two kids, bahahahaa0 -
Are your intolerances diagnosed by a doctor or self? I'm struggling with an intolerance but cant tell what exactly or if its worth bothering a doctor with...any advice?
If you have an idea of what the offending food is, you can try eliminating the food from your diet on your own. Keep a log of any symptoms or improvements for a period of time. (I did mine for 6 weeks.) Then reintroduce the food to your body, again logging results.
If your food intolerance/allergy is anything out of the usual, this information can be very helpful to your doctor when it comes to a diagnosis.0 -
It's not specifically diagnosed, but I can't eat most fried foods. I had my gallbladder removed, so lots of oil makes me sick.0

Dairy and gluten intolerances...no fun!
this ^^ and my dairy is casein (milk protein) not lactose so no good subs for some things. also bananas. none of these things asserted themselves until late 2012 ( I was 37). sucks for a farm girl who grew up on cheap white bread and milk!!!0 -
Wheat/gluten makes my stomach hurt and feel all bloated, so that sucks, and dairy (particularly cow dairy---goat cheese doesn't bother me as much) makes my skin break out. Like we're talking 13 year old going through puberty break out. Made me sooo sad when I realized that was the culprit.
I miss queso and pizza. Sometimes, I'll eat them and just suffer through the consequences because they're so delicious.0 -
I used to be able to eat kiwi, but then in 2005 I found that they made me sick. So I haven't tried kiwi since. Also, red wine doesn't like me, which is fine, I don't like it much either. My best friend, who used to work for a vineyard, told me that the tannins in the red could be the culprit.0

Whey protein - discovered through SEVERE pain after consuming my first protein shake & wheat doesn't do me any favours - bloating, discomfort & gakky feeling in my throat0

I have Oral Allergy Syndrome, so many raw fruits don't sit well with me, especially peaches and cherries. I get itchy wherever I've touched it, including in my stomach and had an asthma attack after eating cherries. Avocados are in the same family, but don't bother me--go figure. Sometimes apples give me really bad stomach pains. I can eat all of these things if they're cooked though, but I really miss juicy peaches in the summer. I didn't have any problems until I hit 30, but my sister has had the same thing her entire life.
I managed to pass down my seasonal allergies in the form of food allergies to my youngest daughter, unfortunately. She has peanut and most tree nuts, but outgrew an egg allergy. :-(0 -
All dairy, anything rice and related to rice (rice wine vinegar, rice flour, rice noodles, etc.) and then fruit when combined with sugar... you can't make these kinds of intolerances up!!! All cause serious indigestion and bloating (except dairy which causes a poison oak-like rash). Fun times!0

I'm doing an elimination diet now as recommended by my doctor (naturopathic doctor) to figure out what is causing 2 years of constipation with extreme bloating and gassiness. Ugh. I never had an intolerance to anything until 2 years ago. Out of no where...constipation that hasn't gone away. After two years and various medical doctors telling me I need every test under the sun, then surgery (on what...I don't know), I went to a naturopathic doctor and she suspects I am intolerant to diary for sure, and also has me doing the FODMAP diet to see if I am having a hard time digesting fiber. I never would have thought dairy was an issue becuase I don't drink milk, don't eat cheese, and the only other form of dairy I was consuming was fat free plain greek yogurt. I wasn't eating it daily, but was always constipated, so I didn't put two and two together until I realized that the whey protein and casein protein that I consume daily is dairy based. I am SO SAD about that. Protein shakes are a staple for me. She also thinks all the broccoli and cabbage I eat are no agreeing with me. I will quit eating anything she tells me to, though, if it will let me just take a S#*&!!!! Lol.0

I cannot drink coffee or diet sodas, spicy foods, tomatoes, citrus. If I do, I may as well live in the restroom0
