Hello all, I am finally getting serious about my health. I have been heavy all my adult life and have always wanted to correct that situation but, have never really made it work. At one point about 10 years ago, I lost 35 pounds but, Thanksgiving came and...I gained it back plus more.
Now that I am in my 40s, the doctor has prescribed me drugs to deal with cholesterol and gout. Add that to me being a father of three and I am finally at a point where I believe I can commit to getting healthy.
I started January 1 and the two main things I have been doing are: 1. No nighttime snacking 2. Ride my recumbent bike every morning before work. I am a notorious nighttime snacker, sometimes eating more calories after 10pm than the rest of the day combined. It is a terrible habit, a habit that was killing me.
16 days in and things are going well. I am starting to develop the habit of NOT snacking at night and I have not missed a day to ride my bike before work. I know there will be challenging days going forward but, I have motivated myself by losing 15 pounds already! I have about 110 left to go. One of the greatest things is, on the mobile app for MyFitnessPal, seeing the graph with the line going down as I track my weigh ins.
I wish you all success in your journey to a healthy lifestyle. Nice to be part of the community.

Welcome to MFP! and congratulations on deciding to make a change with small changes, like riding your bike and curbing your nighttime snacking. It's these small changes that will yield big results in the long run.
There's a lot of information here on MFP, I'd recommend reading up on the forums (there's some that are at the top of the threads listed as "Announcements" - this is a good place to start)
