It all varies with the run in question.

I'm not fast by any stretch of the imagination. Most of my training runs up to about 10km will be between 10 min / mile and 10:30 min/mile. Long slow Sunday runs are closer to 11:30 or 12:00 per mile.

My best 5K race was 26:07 which roughly translates into 8:25 / mile and my best half-marathon was 2:14:47 which is around 10:30 / mile. One of my long term goals is to break 2:00 for a half-marathon.

Ok.... This is going to be embarrassing, but I'm still significantly overweight and just started running a couple months ago and couldn't do more than 1 minute before wanting to pass out.. :ohwell:

    Training pace - averages about 13:30-14:00/mile (doing c25k so that's walking/running intervals)
    Haven't done a race yet.
MY fast pace (currently) would be 12:30/mile
(Current) Goal pace - around 11:30/mile
(Ultimate) Goal pace - ummm.... probably around 7:00-8:00/mile

If I am running 3 miles, I run 9.5 minute miles. If I run 5-6 miles its about 10-11 minute miles.

According to endomondo my average so far for the month is 9:39 min/mi (31.76 miles 5:06:20) with my 5k best at 26:14 and 10k best at 1:00:56.

Still overweight and a complete novice at running, but getting there. Hoping to run a half marathon this fall in the 2:15 range (right around 10:30/mile).

I run around 10:45/mile whether I am running one or ten (that's the most I have run without walking or stopping). That's training or racing; to me, racing is just organized exercise to support a cause

No set goal as I am mid 50s and doing this to stay in shape and I enjoy it. I won't push to the point where I injure myself or don't enjoy it. I might get down toward 9:00 if I keep it up; I probably could do that now for under 5 miles. I consider "fast" to be under 8:00 on long runs.

Regular training pace can be anything from 8:20 - 10:00 per mile but the average pace for all of last month (177.8 miles) was 9:01 minute per mile.

Last 5k my pace was about 7:35. The half I did Sunday was 8 miles @ 8:35 pace but it didn't go so well at the end and I ended up a 9:02 pace for the entire thing. It probably helps if you don't stop and take pictures. I've done a 15 mile run at an 8:35 pace in better circumstances.

I consider anything over 9:00 to be more of a casual pace. Under that is work and 8:30 and below I consider to be fast and running under 8:00 for long periods of time isn't fast, it's painful.

My current goal is to do this next half under 1:50:00. That's about an 8:20 - 8:24 pace.

    It Depends...
Currently 8:30 to 10 minutes, depending on terrain, temperature & my running partner
Which race? 5K was just at a 7:03 pace, I'm not in shape for anything much longer than that right now.
Under 7 is fast for just a regular run
For what race? a 5K ultimately a 6:27, but that's not likely. A half, I think 7:24 is reasonable for me to achieve with proper training.

What is your regular training pace per mile? About 10 - 10:30 per mile
What's your race pace? 9 min per mile for shorter distances, 10 for a half marathon
What do you consider a "fast" pace? Anything faster than 8:50 seems fast to me.
What's your goal pace? Would love to do 9 min miles for a half marathon.

Also I do a lot of training with my 3 yearold in a jogger. My pace with the jogger is always 11:15 per mile, if I go out for 3 miles or 10.

What is your regular training pace per mile? Usually 9 to 10, depending on distance. If I'm trail running and there's a lot of elevation then it's over 10 minutes / mile.
What's your race pace? My best 5k was an 8:02 avg pace - my best half marathon was an 8:48 avg pace. I'm not going to mention my full marathon pace because the pain is still too fresh in my mind.
What do you consider a "fast" pace? Sub 8 minute miles
    What's your goal pace? a 7:30 pace for a 5k; an 8:30 pace for a half.

    9 minute miles for training

    I consider this fast.

My short runs (4 - 5 miles) I hover around 8:00-8:15 min miles.
    5k- around 7:20 - 7:30
    15k - 8:15
    1/2 mara - 8:20

Hoping for about 8:50-9:10 for my first full in the fall. That may be a bit too ambitious, though. Will revise that as my training progresses beyond the 13.1 mark!

Not too shabby for a 41 (almost 42) year old who's been at this running thing for almost 2 years (anniversary is July 1).

    :-)

What do I consider a fast pace??? Anyone my age who whoops the snot out of me. . .which happens frequently. Those sub 20 5k runners. The sub 1:40:00 half marathoners...that's the carrot I have my eyes set on!

My best 5K was 22:30 in mid-May. I completed a half marathon in April at about 8:47/mile. I haven't run in a month or more so I'm scared to even know what I'm clockin' these days! YIKES!!

comparing times is tricky and fast or slow times can only be relevent to the person running them since everybody is different. Pre surgery i could run an 8-9 min mile easy with 10-12 if running more then 5k...further the distance the slower the pace naturally :)

Me too! I am just working my way through a 5k training program though. My last timed mile was 12:53 but I am happy for having run the whole thing. I have a 5k in July, so I don't really have a race pace yet...

my fastest mile time was 8:40. i had never clocked it before, so i'm sure i could do better.

i did a half marathon recently in 2:12 hrs.

my fastest 5k was just under 27 minutes... but it was after a swim and a bike ride for a warm up.

normally for long runs (6+ miles), i train at about 9:30 min/mile pace. for shorter runs i go as fast as i can, and figure out my pace after.

What is your regular training pace per mile? 10 min
What's your race pace? 8-9 min
What do you consider a "fast" pace? 7-8 min
What's your goal pace? 7 min

I seem to run a whole hell of a lot faster during races, which is surprising to me. I ran my fastest mile during the last race I did and I shocked the crap out of myself.

    My best 5k - 26.29 (8:31 minute mile)
    Best 10k 57:25 (9:14 minute mile)

Training pace: usually around 8:50 or so. Although it is VERY humid lately and that has slowed me down.

    I run 3-4 miles usually.

What is your regular training pace per mile? with walk intervals, about 11:15; running only, I do 10:45
What's your race pace? uh, I haven't done a race but I would aim for 10:00 (probably wouldn't manage it)
What do you consider a "fast" pace? anything under 9:30 feels super fast to me (I can do 1 mile at ~9:00 but it kills me)
What's your goal pace? 9:00 would be awesome

I've been running for 2 years and I've never had more than 25-30 lbs to lose, so I'm just slow. :D

You know it's all about being active ... so even a minute and wanting to pass out is better than sitting at home : )

    keep going!

I just read an article in Runner's World and it was explaining how to get from not running to running a 5 km. You might want to track that article down.

9:00/mile for my daily (or 3-4 days/week) 6 mile runs
10:00/mile for longer runs (once per week)

I've run one official half marathon at 2:09:55 (a hair under 10:00/mile) and am early in my training for a full marathon in January which I also hope to complete at a 10:00 or faster pace.

How fast was I when I started up running 3 years ago when I was 70+ pounds heavier and 53 years old? Hell, I could barely make it around the block without dying. If you're a beginner or overweight or have physical issues, please just ignore what other people can do. Concentrate on trying to do the best that YOU can without hurting yourself. And smile when you finish your runs (or run/walks).

Bravo! to you for saying that! I've injured myself twice with minor tendon issues that just kept from running for a few months. Still, I'm in it for health, not glory. So it's far better to avoid an injury than to risk one. And if my knees ever start to go, I'll happily quit running and find something else to keep me active.
