Females attempting to gain weight

Hello. I don't need to gain weight, myself, by any means; but, I did just read something in a magazine that might potentially be helpful to you.
First of all, let me say that I have thyroid problems, but, when I was tested, I was told that it is not diseased; more like there is something that is just affecting it and he didn't know what. During my talk with the endocrinologist, we examined my history of weight gain and also a few bizarre times of extreme weight loss. He said, by the way it sounds to him, those times were also my thyroid malfunctioning. He told me that even in cases where the thyroid is diseased, it's not necessarily all just gaining weight or all just losing weight, and, the same factors can cause a different issue for different people. And, it's because of that talk that I am telling you this, just in case it is helpful to you.
In the magazine article I read, it said that you can have a test that says your thyroid is perfectly fine and you can have a test that says you have plenty of iron in your blood, but, you may still have a situation where your thyroid is malfunctioning because it is not receiving the iron it needs from the cells. In which case, it cannot produce all the hormones it needs to make.
It is my understanding that this can also lead to an overactive thyroid instead of an underactive one. It is also my understanding that, even if the thyroid is not being directly affected, considering how often women are anemic, this is probably an important step to take, anyway.
Basically, to have the proper hormones to build muscle and regulate your body, you have to have enough iron and it has to be accessible. For some women, the problem may be more the amount of iron they are taking in and for others it may be more about their body's inflammation response preventing the thyroid from accessing the iron that is there.
Either way, pairing iron rich foods with Vitamin C sources might be a big help, since the Vitamin C both helps quell inflammation and helps absorb much more iron from the food. So, eating bean burritos with salsa, having nuts and strawberries together, eating hummus and bell peppers, having an orange with a spinach salad, and, such as that would do the trick.
I don't know, for sure, that this will help you gain weight. But, since you are going to be eating, anyway, you might want to give it a try, for a week or two, and, see if it helps any.
I wish you all the best of luck!0 -

Currently struggling to adjust my mindset to this new goal. I want to gain a lot of muscle so now I'm bulking (started last month after competing), and it's a bit of a mind**** But I'm slowing adjusting. How many calories are you ladies eating? Currently slowly gaining at about 3000 calories with heavy lifting.0

I started eating to build muscle 4 weeks ago. I started at 1700 calories but have consistently been bumping it up to try and gain. I'm up to 1900 calories per day but still maintaining a weight of 125lbs. I'll bump it again on Monday if I haven't gained an ounce. Which I haven't since I started. It's not easy to find maintenance. I used to run a ton (just came off marathon training) so I have no basis that doesn't include tons of miles and tons of meals. No cardio and focusing on weight lifting is totally new to me. But I'm loving it.

I'm currently starting a new journey in life to gain weight. To most, that sounds ridiculous. But for me, it truly is a struggle. So, with that being said, I'm looking for a great support group. Any ladies interested?
I would like to join a group, I have been struggling in weight gaining and through my whole life I've been put down about my weight. I am 27 and I am currently underweight as well I am now a vegetarian so it will be a little harder for me to gain weight at this moment. I haven't had the greatest supportive people so I am looking for a support group who are as well joining me in this journey in weight gaining.

You want carb/fat based as much as possible and reduce protein intake (not for life, just whilst actually gaining weight) as protein speeds up metabolism by 30%. (Knowledge from 'the book'0 -

@kstahlke, how do you get over the mental hump that you're eating "too many" calories?
I've been on a weight loss journey for a while and recently reached my goal weight. My weight has slipped recently to below the healthy BMI due to a stressful few weeks.
I've been slowly increased my food intake but because I've just come out of a weight loss mentality and habit building I get this morbid fear that I am going to get fat if I eat too many calories. Then there's the fact that I simply do not really feel hungry or have an appetite to eat...which seems to be an almost cruel side effect of having lost weight with an aim to eat what I want now turned into a weight goal achieved but now not able to eat what I want.
I want to move on to a tone up phase which obviously include getting myself back into a healthy BMI. I do run quite a fair bit too and that's been contributing to my weight loss since its cardio intensive, and I haven't done much or any strength.
Any tips would be highly appreciated!
