What I've learned today:- I should be more focussed on meeting my calorie goald than about fats
- Fat is not evil
- You can eat fats while losing weight (*gasp*)
- Not all the snacks I like are unhealthy or mess up my goals
Somehow I got it in my head that I should avoid fats as much as I can, or at least by no means exceed the MFP goals, because I thought I wouldn't loose weight if I did. But I guess it should be alright, as long as I also keep exercising!
Thank you all soooo much for helping this total noob out. Cant wait to snack on some cashews tonight
tip - WEIGH the cashews! They are dangerous!
Will do!! I have been down the road of "I guess it cant hurt to just eat all of it" too many times.. Which is what got me here in the first place hahah

Hey everyone!
I was hoping someone could recommend me some low fat, high calorie foods?
Ive been using MFP for a week now, and have not met my calorie goal even once. I dont know why, but as soon as I start eating healthy, I just cant meet my calories. Yesterday, I had about 500 left after dinner (I did work out)! So I just end up resorting to something unhealthy to at least get to 1000-1200 calories for that day. I mean, I wanna loose some weight, but not like this obviously...
So, any tips would be great!

dietary fat in appropriate amounts is healthy and not something to be avoided...things like nuts, avocados, saute some veggies in some good olive oil, etc...good fat, good for ya...
as to your question though...pasta, rice, legumes, etc...all low fat and relatively high calorie foods.0 -

I want to applaud you for learning and add two more suggestions: replace one egg in your omelette with 3 servings of egg white. Less fat, 5 more calories than a whole large egg, protein is about the same. ( I am allergic to egg yolks, so egg whites are a go to breakfast item) and non-fat Greek yogurt adds protein and calcium. I even use plain Greek yogurt in place of sour cream for baking now.
I pay much more attention to my protein than my other macros and eat back 2/3 of my exercise calories now that I have reached maintenance. When I was losing my extra weight, I ate back up to 1/2. Good luck on your journey!0 -
I dice up potatoes (and/or root veggies, sweet potatoes, or brussels sprouts), toss in as little bit of olive oil or melted butter as possible, and bake at 400 for +-30 min until desired texture is achieved. Another idea is make a huge crock pot of chili, using your fave beans (I like black beans) and that 99% fat free ground turkey (Trader Joe's, Jenny O, whatever). I like this thread because "low fat" is getting attacked right now. The truth is it is very easy to skew your macros toward more fat than you want if you don't incorporate low fat recipes into your diet. Depending on your goals, a very wide variety of % calories from fat is optimal. For me, my fat intake varies from 20% to 45% depending on my short term goals. When I'm doing 20%, I have to get creative to keep fat low.0
