What is it about spending a day at the beach that makes me super hungry?
Everytime I go to the beach I pack many healthy snacks and graze all day long so it's not like I am not eating anything. I drink a ton of water and snack on things like raw veggies, string cheese, fresh fruit, turkey slices, kale krunch chips, turkey jerkey. I do walk around a little bit but I'm not really a beach walker per se, more of a lounger I like to lounge around and roast in the sun for the most part. I don't usually go into the ocean around here because it's just too damn cold.
But just spending the day there always makes me ravenously hungry! Is it sitting in the sun? It can't be hydration because I drink a ton of water all day long. It's not like I am lugging a lot of heavy stuff back and forth either because the beach I go to has the parking space, a short beach wall and the beach so other than hiking myself up and over the wall a dozen times or so there's really no long walking/lugging stuff.
I wonder why this is and if anyone else gets like this?
It's not a problem, I just plan accordingly for a good meal when I finally get home. It's just one of those funny things that I've always wondered about...

Wait, didn't we just do this thread? And yeah, I always get super-hungry. Glad I don't live far.0
-
Did we? I don't think so. I posted something about a good beach sandwich that I make sometimes but I think this is a different topic? Unless someone else mentioned it and I didn't see it.0

Glad to hear you took the time to go to the beach. That's a really good thing to do!
I've written and erased this post multiple times trying to figure out how to maybe do good, instead of either ignoring the problem, or inadvertently causing harm.
I suspect you may be starting to feel that the whole world is ganging up on you. You may think we're misguided, or don't have the complete pictures; but, sometimes things we just do not see from the inside are blatantly obvious to the people on the outside.
If it quacks like a duck, waddles like a duck, smells like a duck, and flaps like a duck, it could be a goose, but it is probably a duck!
You are ravenously hungry because... you should be given what you eat and the energy you expend.
Nothing more. Nothing less.0 -
I hear you! When I was growing up, my family had a lovely house on a quiet lake, with a large floating dock. We'd spend all day on that dock, swimming and boating and sunbathing. By the end of the day, we would all be ravenous and have massive dinners! It makes sense to be hungry when you're a little kid and super active, jumping in and climbing back out over and over for hours at a time, but even as an adult, just laying on the dock or getting the boat out would be enough to rampant up the hunger. There would be days when we weren't overly active or getting exercise, just sun bathing and chatting and having the occasional dip to cool off, but by the time we got up to the house, we were more than ready to start up the buffet. I don't know what it is, but the heat and the sun and the water makes me so hungry too!0

i think its the sun and the salt and the heat and the water - but when i go to the beach (pretty often) - I spend a large part of it in the water jumping waves and falling off surfboards , so... I probably earn my food those days :P0

I never go to the beach even though I grew up and lived most of my life near the Gulf Coast. I hate the beach. Sand itches, sun burns, water is full of creatures. My friends who spent their lives on the beach look at least 20 years older than I do.0

It's the sun in my opinion. I live on the beach (YAY Florida), but any day I spend out in the sun working or lounging on the beach I get super hungry too.
But like atypicalsmith, I don't really like the beach and rarely go. It's probably something to do with seeing it outside my window every day, much like someone who looks at mountains all the time gets bored with them too? It's sandy, and no matter how hard you try sand will get EVERYWHERE, especially the super fine white sand here on the Gulf Coast. There are sharks, 3 great whites caught so far this year alone in my neck of the sunshine state, and loads of other creatures that plot my doom. Plus..... seaweed, that stinks and makes the beach ick. Nope. I'd rather spend my vacation day kayaking in the nearby springs.0 -

Well... yeah... but I assumed that on light days where there is little to no exercise at all I should lighten it up.
That's all
But yeah, thanks for the reminder0 -

OP - you are starving because you are netting 1200 calories a day. and what are you doing to get 1000 calorie burns??????????0
-
Okay seriously?
Let's assume for the purpose of this post that my diary is normal and that this wasn't a previous topic.
*ahem*
So... I am wondering what it could be. Maybe the sun? or the heat? It's just funny to me is all.0 -

Oh for crying out loud!
I can say for sure that this topic has been covered thoroughly.
Yes, I am aware that I'm burning too much and not eating enough.
I'm working on it.
So.... is it the sun? the heat? the air? what could it be??
I don't usually drink alcohol. I used too... too much! Now I save it for just once in a while, at a party or a night out or whatever. I just don't have the "off" switch when I start drinking and it's not fair to my husband or friends to assume that I have a baby-sitter for the night. I quit for a long time and now when I do drink I'll have one or two and it's like firewater! I'm native american so that's the running joke with me and my group of friends0 -

I very rarely (maybe 3x every other year or two) go to the beach or even to a pool. When I do, I have found that the sun really wears me out. I don't think I feel extra hungry but I do feel tired, even if the swimming was more like splashing/floating and not actual swimming swimming. I don't lounge around or roast in the sun at all though.
Maybe it's a matter of truly letting yourself relax and let down your mental barriers to feeling hunger. It's easy to ignore hunger signs when you're super busy. It's harder when you have nothing pressing on your mind.0 -

I would guess that netting so few calories is the reason for the hunger... Shocker, I know.

No. You're not eating enough. You can't continue the 3-4 workouts a day, netting less than 1200 calories and think you're not going to be hungry ALL.THE.TIME.

I have a lake place in the summer and am there every weekend. I net more than 1200 cals and am hungry all the time while there too. I think it is the mentality that I'm lounging and its a vacation like atmosphere..I then subconsciously think I need the food and drinks that come with a vacation. I have the time, want a drink in my hand, and lettuce doesn't seem to cut it. I am however working on a way to fix this because I sabotage my progress each weekend.0

So eating 1,229 calories yesterday and logging a burn of 1,018 looks fine to you? Are you high?
And yes Cushman, when I don't *properly* fuel my body ... I get hungry. It doesn't matter where I am at.-1
