This, yes. Or peanut butter. At least half a jar with a spoon. No wonder I was so overweight.

Ok, but to be fair, that's a jar.

Yeah, no... call me a snob but I will not eat anything from a can or drink from the can or bottle.
    Why?
Because I will most likely not die of starvation/thirst while I properly prepare food and sit down and enjoy it with family or friends... To me eating is not about stuffing my face, it's about enjoyment.
Just honestly curious, but what about when you were younger? I don't eat the stuff I've mentioned now, but when I was younger and didn't know any better I did. :)

    Truthfully no.
I was fortunate to grow up in a very rich food culture that celebrates freshness and seasonality of ingredients.

I never eat anything out of a can/jar etc. without heavily modifying it.
Tuna for example, at the very minimum I'll add finely chopped onion, parsley, EVOO, lemon, black pepper and hot sauce to say I "ate tuna out of the can".
canned pineapple, I'll make a fruit salad with a bunch of stuff and top it with creme freche.
Even in the rare occasion that I'll make frozen pizzas for the kids, I load them with a variety of caramelized onions, mushrooms, roasted peppers, jalapenos, kalamata olives, fresh tomatoes (all squeezed of their juices), parmesan and fresh mozzarella...
What can I say... for me food is a celebration.

Enjoyment to everyone is subjective though. Many drink wine to whom it may be enjoyment, while others detest it and would rather drink hard liquor.

Yeah... For example, the ice cream I enjoy the most is the one I eat with a spoon in my kitchen. Because I'm not doing anything else, I can fully enjoy every bite.

And we all have different tastes. When I was eating raviolis out of the can, it was very satisfying to me. Besides, I personally enjoy my food more if I'm eating it alone in peace than with family while having to participate in a conversation.

Chef Boyardee, Chili, Soups ... stuff like that I used to eat out of the can all the time, before I started paying more attention to my sodium intake. In fact, some of them I couldn't eat heated up, cause it changed the taste/texture from what I was used to, and made it less palatable.

Potted meats and other stuff intended to be eaten cold as well ( Vienna Sausages come to mind ). Also used to eat my field rations ( MREs ) cold most of the time as well, when I was in the Army.

Well it is a bit snobbish, to be honest, to assume that people eating out of a can are not enjoying their food or that they are stuffing their face. For some foods eating something out of a can is specifically how I enjoy that particular food, much more than passing it through an intricate preparation routine. It just feels special sometimes, like licking the spatula when you're done preparing some dessert.

Oh, yes. I vastly prefer hard liquor and mixed drinks. I am tired of explaining to people that just because I don't want a glass of wine, it doesn't automatically mean I'm either an alcoholic OR a teetotaller.

I don't eat them out of the can, but I'll often put beans - kidney, black, pinto, etc. - straight from the can onto a salad if I need extra carbs/fiber.

Kind of seems a shame to put such nice ingredients on a frozen wasteland. There are a ton of recipes online for pizza dough that you can freeze. Just thaw and pat onto your pan or board before putting in the oven. You can do the same with pizza sauce. :)

I've made pizza from scratch hundreds of times, I even built a pizza oven in the back yard... that's why I mentioned the "rare occasion that I would make a frozen pizza". :)

All I said was that I don't enjoy food that is eaten hastily or without a bit of "setting the table theatrics"...

That's actually what I was assuming the question was. I think I said chickpeas, and I would not eat those out of the can, but add them to things from the can. Same with the tinned sardines.

Forgot about garbanzos/chick peas. Those are great on a salad.

Other than the obvious (tuna, chicken, fruits, etc.), I'll eat most food straight from the can as long as there isn't any fat build up in it (like in some soups and beans). Most canned veggies and beans are great cold for snacking or to toss in salads (just need to rinse them first). Cold clam chowder or chili would be a no in my book. Ha!

I think people are just reading into your use of "Fortunate" - which could imply everyone who didn't have the same lifestyle could be unfortunate. But I doubt that's how you meant it. I think it was just a word you used haha.

I had Progresso chicken noodle soup out of the can once because I was being lazy.

I felt like someone was going to sneak up on me and steal my soup and I was only trying to eat quickly and out of the can because of that. It was quite bizzare. Never again. The bowl is worth it.

Where you using hallucinogenic stuff or where people really trying to steal soup ? I've heard about a soup thief on here who steals soup cans and packs them with kale instead. Really a bummer to open a can of rotten nasty kale

Lol no, I was just eating soup. There was just something about eating out of the can that felt really strange and out of the ordinary. I think a soup can packed with kale would be far worse! Kale, yuck.

I like you. Kale is yucky as soup for sure !

Kale soup, mmmmmmmmmm. Just don't cook the kale to death or buy the stuff already chopped up as it is too tough.

    Sausage, Kale, and Lentil Soup
